Second highest attendance at 4,123 so far this year.  Interesting (or maybe not) that the two highest attended games were on a Saturday night - last night and the 1/28 game against UTEP (4,301).  I didn't think the student turnout last night was as strong as it was Thursday (3,873 for UAB).  Does that mean the local community is making up a larger percentage of the crowd on weekend game nights?  Still running around a 10% increase (+325) so far for the season with two home games remaining.  Last year's season finale against LaTech will wipe out our average increase unless we somehow bring in 6K+ for both MTSU and WKU.

Weird, I thought Thursday looked much more full than last night.

  2. Great resounding win. I would have liked to see the bench rotated in a little sooner at about the 10 minute mark. But we just got Sissoko getting more minutes so maybe we better not push our luck. 😂

Very nice 3 point shooting today, the guys just looked dialed in and confident.

You're correct. The Big12 sacrificed that momey from UT and OU to get them out by 2024. This wouldn't have happened if the Big12 didn't already have replacements ready to board. Nobody has signed the GOR and the Pac12 will have no media deal in 2024. The "4 Corners" schools are certain to join the Big12, and maybe a couple others may either join them or go to the Big10.

Florida State is supposedly pushing this:

Certain is a strong word, and we all know how wild realignment can be. I do think there will be a real attempt by the Big12 to see if some PAC schools are interested. Is this video saying ESPN is out completely in any scenario? If that can be verified and it's only Amazon bidding (rumored to be putting up $15m a year/per school) then I'd agree with you, as with a payout that low everyone would be leaving.

SMU has already accepted the PAC12 invitation. Done deal, same for SDSU.

Washington State and Oregon State are the only current PAC12 schools willing to sign the GOR.

There are no exit fees from the Pac12 if 5 or more current schools leave the conference.

    Well, something's happening.

    First shoe about to fall

And the second shoe is unlaced and dangling

For those that didn't watch theres a lot of the limited info we already know, but the most interesting thing he brought up is why would the Big12 let OU/UT go a year early? They let them go for a combined $100m, if they had waited until next year they were looking at $80m each, why would they give up $60m? Best guesses are that they wanted to be set up, and will at least try to offer some PAC teams. Otherwise I'm confused as to why they would give up that money.

The streaming issue is an interesting one.  Definitely hurts the number of games in a bar, or people flipping back and forth. But I wonder how much impact there really is there. The deal will likely include some ESPN games on broadcast.  How many PAC games were really on prime slots on real channels before vs now?  Some loss surely but not a total loss. How many really matter?

Also, if the partner is Amazon, what I'd they really push it?  What if every time you open your Amazon app to buy new socks you get bombarded with a PAC advertisement?  Is that worth much?  Or how about games bring available to watch anytime, not just live?  Does that help?

I don't know the answers but if done with innovation could be good.

For the primetime slots they probably won't be losing much, the Pac rules the late night slots. Games here on the west coast start at 7pm/9pm central, those were always on Fox/FS1. It's pretty likely that bars and restaurants to have those games on after the primetime games are over. Will ESPN carry those games now? It will all depend on who gets first tier rights, I don't think ESPN will change their programming if they don't get the top Pac game of the week.

Amazon already produces shows and content, think about the last time you were on Amazon and saw their content advertised to you. That's probably the answer.

  6. Great win to gut this one out. At first I thought our guys were leaving people open and not closing down, but after paying more attention their guards are just insanely fast. You can tell emotions were running high, Perry was really wanting to hit those 3s and was frustrated. I keep saying it, Scott is like Rodman, just 100% effort every minute. Huntsberry is really starting to come into his own and find his role. Sissoko continues to get minutes and gain confidence. You build and grow from these games, and Mac is the kind of coach to stress that. GMG!

I'd still like to know what the media deal is going to look like.  Big part of that tweet was that the Pac was looking for a new media rights partner to rely heavily on streaming.  With out a major network deal, can that deal really be that lucrative?

Rumors are that they might go full in on Amazon streaming. Amazon certainly has the money to match what number they may be looking for, but the big risk is losing exposure. If they go that route it's a huge gamble. On one hand they may be in the forefront of how sports are consumed, on the other it could backfire completely. When you are at a bar or restaurant how many people are going to boot up Amazon to stream a football game?  Casual football fans flip through the TV and watch what's on, it's very unlikely that they would browse Amazon for sports content.

The pro-rata is only on the ESPN portion and not the Fox portion so they still lose in per - school payout.  But yes, it might be worth it for all parties if the PAC deal is a disaster.  All of the articles good and bad are speculation right now. So we'll see.  Nobody really knows.  Either way, the 'floor' on what might happen if it goes bad is not any lower than the AACUSA.

One thing I do know is this PAC-SMU talk started many months ago, at least. It's not a panic move due to negotiations. Maybe still panic, who knows, but the narrative that it is a quick panic add is incorrect.

Yes, but don't forget the massive exit fees OU/UT are going to have to pay. They can use those to compensate their current members, and to boost payment to any new members if Fox won't up their share. I think the reported fee is $80m each. The reported total payout after BB credits and CFP money is reported at $50m per school starting in 2025. If you are one of the 4 corners schools, and the Big 12 is willing to take you, I don't see how that's not at least a possibility on the table. Everything hinges on what the Pac deal looks like.

I don't doubt SMU has been working for many months to see what was possible. Any school would be open to/actively pursuing a move up.

Whole lot of "they will all leave" and very little "X will go to _______ and Y will go to ______"

When you try to actually think it through, nobody but maybe Oregon can go anywhere unless the media package is a complete disaster.   Maybe it will be. But probably not.

But let's say it is. Media package is really low. Well if the value is that bad, then the big chunk of schools everyone is predicting leaving is not worth that much!  So is B12 going to take a bunch of schools that reduce their payouts?  There would be no point.

The Big12 contract is reported to have a pro rata clause that any P5 they add will be able to come in at the same share.

    https://awfulannouncing.com/ncaa/big-12s-new-media-rights-deals-reportedly-contain-pro-rata-clause-in-case-of-future-expansion.html

This is the dagger hanging over the Pac12s head if their payout is significantly lower.

This could be a blessing in disguise. At some point in the not too distant future, the AAC will be replacing teams after the SEC and B1G poach Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, and Notre Dame's football (think about the B1G's USC invitation). SMU will probably be locked into the PAC. When the ACC makes their move into Texas, I can't see them wanting to pass on adding the DFW market. We just need to double our efforts to build our programs.

This is exactly what I hope will happen.
