I am greedy man. After being down by 20 I should probably be happy that it is only -7 at the half. But with 50 secs to go it sure felt like they could cut it to about 3.

Could have been if the refs didn't hose us.

UNT vs. SMU in the AAC would be pretty sweet!  Make it so, Mosely!

I thought about suggesting that game be the one in the AAC (arena), but I think that game would be well attended by our students and would take that home court advantage edge away from us. I think we'd all like to keep that one at home. 😅

    Agree with these ideas.

Athletics is not communicating with ALL it's potential fans or past Alums.

Not everyone is a 20-something that tweets.

A real investment is needed. If it were me I would also hire a consulting firm to do surveys and gather data to see a clear picture or what we have and don't, then develop a strategy on how to change things.

There seems to be two views here:

    1) Get yourself in a conference that is weak as possible, so that one singular team can carry the torch into national prominence/contention, OR...

    2) Surround yourself by the highest level of competition you can, join/match their efforts, and hope that it elevates your own play as well as any external (IE, media) perceptions of you (and your conference)

I happen to think option #1 is an extremely risky model to pursue.  That the ones who do it are outliers, teams that enjoy a combination of unique circumstances and/or luck.  The rest of the time, when people pursue this, the media piles on the poor perceptions, you get lumped in with those pile-ons, and then spend all your effort failing to climb out of that situation.

Option 2 is definitely the way to go. What happens if that member goes on multi-year down cycles? You also get legitimacy questions since they play in a weak conference, and it requires teams to have perfect seasons. We always hear about a 2 loss Alabama team still being considered for the CFP since they play in such a strong conference.

I’ve recently seen rumors that Oregon is on board with staying in the PAC12 because they want to make appearances in the playoff and that will be easier to do in a watered-down PAC12. This makes sense to me as exposure from being in the playoff likely counterbalances an increase in conference media revenue.

I’ve also recently seen rumors that Colorado State and Tulane are being considered alongside SDSU and SMU as additions. This is interesting because many want Colorado State / Air Force in the AAC.

If CSU is being considered you'd think CU is on the way out. Why would they want to double up on the Colorado market?

The Big 10 will not be meeting until April and they will then have a new commissioner in place. They will then be able to vote on whether to issue invitations.

I still think the Big10 bides their time. Oregon/Washington don't have anywhere to go unless it's the Big12, and by the time the Big10 has their new commissioner in place the Big12 would have already made/not made their move. They could have taken those two (plus more) when they took USC/UCLA, they had to have had solid money reasons as to why they didn't. The Big10 is also thinking about not overloading too early, the ACC is being encircled by a pride of lions and everyone is just waiting for the right time to strike.

Recently FSU, Clemson, and UNC made public remarks about being unhappy with payouts. They feel what they contribute to the conference is not equal to what they get in return. They are pushing for unequal revenue distribution and reports say their lawyers are combing through the GOR to see if there are any clauses for breaking it. I doubt anything immediate happens. This is either a ploy to get unequal revenue to be accepted, or they really are unhappy and this is a sign of a future breakup if the ACC can't match what other conferences are paying out.

Don't know, but Tuesday was never expected to be an announcement.  There were conference meetings today, it was assumed there would be leaks. If successful announcement Thursday. Or, if not, next slate of conference meetings are in 2 weeks. And so on.

Maybe I read it on another forum and I'm just remembering it wrong. Other rumors I've heard are April before anything one way or the other is announced.

The athletic department doesn't do enough to captivate their own campus, let alone the community. There is definitely a lot of meat on the bone.

I don't buy that. Anyone who cares enough to find a UNT game on ESPN+ is more than likely finding their way to a couple games every year. I agree with Green Otaku, we just don't have a fanbase for basketball right now.

The best way to change that would be to get buy in from the Denton community, but we all know that's something UNT has never been good at...

I think we and those close to Mosley need to push this issue. We need the AD to get serious about marketing and promoting the teams. There is so much in their control they can try to see if they get any boost. Off the top of my head: Denton residents get buy 1 get 1 free on tickets, mail coupons for %off or free item from concessions, make really nice season posters and go around to local businesses and see if they will hang them up, maybe do 1 game a year at the American Airlines center so the Dallas alumni have an easy game to get to, etc. There's just so much they could try, the important thing is to connect to the students, alumni, and the people of Denton.

I get what you are saying but keep in mind, we are still rebuilding after an absolute debacle with Benford.

Also, the real catalyst that is changing things is the NCAA tourney win over Purdue.  That really should be the starting point for a higher level of support and attendance.

I don't think our problems are any different than the same problems that affect TCU, SMU and heck even Texas and A&M.  With the advent of streaming and ESPN+ people can watch basically every game sitting on their bum eating cheap food and drinking cheap beer.  Is it as good as being there no, but it is pretty close and closer now than at any time in the history of college athletics.

I don't get bringing up Benford, that was 5 seasons ago with continuing success every season. Did it take 5 years of success to rebuild after McCarney? Year 2 of SL had very healthy crowds in the 24-26k range, why? Because there is a fanbase for football.

The NCAA win over Purdue was 2 years ago and had no bearing on attendance. The season after we had 3 home games in a row. The attendance was:

    Oklahoma Christian: 3,758

    Buffalo: 3,058

    UT Arlington: 3,211

I get covid happened and attendance was down, but our numbers look no different now. We need to face our shortcoming or we'll never improve on them.

So much to be excited about.  I really wish our fanbase would get better about attendance somehow.  The football argument is always to win and people will come.  While true, that hasnt completely translated to basketball.  Current conference games are typically Thursday and Saturdays.  Thursday nights are big nights for students, and should be reflected in their attendance.  Saturday, alumni have few excuses (apart from matinee tips with kids sports perhaps, but that's really the exception).  I love the Pit so much, but it almost seems like the idea of a new arena may help with the experience of attending the games.  Point is, the boys are doing their part.  We need to do ours.

This team is playing the best basketball in our history and has been doing so for several years, but we are struggling to get 3-3.5k people in the stands. We need to re-evaluate how we look at things. So far we've been asking, "why is the fanbase not showing up?" And I think we need to face reality and see that the fanbase for basketball just isn't there. So instead we should be asking, "How do we build up the fanbase?" Those two things may sound like the same thing, but the former implies that the fanbase exists, while the latter says we have work to do in game promotion, student/population engagement, social media engagement, game day atmosphere, etc.

I think the strongest case that backs up my claim is when the FB team was doing well people were showing up. The LA Tech game was packed, and people were excited. BB has achieved an even higher level, but we aren't seeing people flood to the Pit.

As for a new arena, like I've been saying it's not a question of if but when. Sports venues in the US don't often go more than 50 years for safety/structural reasons unless you do major renovations. The Pit is sitting at 50 years, it's going to happen whether people want it to or not.

What I don't understand is why it took forever for Sissoko to get some playing time?

I could only assume GMac didn't think he was ready and didn't want to toss him into the fire. Martinez got the majority of the minutes when Ousmane was in the bench. Martinez is a senior and has much more experience, all the while they've been working with Sissoko and getting him ready for a bigger role, especially for next year. He still has 2 (maybe 3) years left.

I thought I heard that Kai took a personal year to deal with family issues.  Not sure if that was tied to covid or not.  There could be some question as to how that year is treated or if it may require NCAA appeal.

Now that I hadn't heard before. Looking at his UNT bio I see the gap in the 20-21 season. But he did play in the 19-20 season where covid shut everything down, so you would think he would have that year.

TP definitely has another year.  That is not the question.  The question is will he transfer out due to NIL money at another school.  Vito is the one who prompted this with his stupid article.  Tylor has never raised the issue of leaving until Vito prompted it.  At what point is the UNT AD going to realize what a cancer Vito is for this university?

What I meant by the same situation was in reference to years played and eligibility left.

TP 2 years at Coffeyville, 2 years at UNT. No one is questioning he has an extra covid year.

KH played 2 years in Juco, 1 year at UM and 1 year at UNT. But everyone is uncertain is he has another year left.

I'm just confused as to why Perry's eligibility situation is clear, but Huntsberry's isn't, even though earlier in the year it seemed like everyone thought Huntsberry had the extra year.

If you line up all the media coverage, it is all conflicting. None of it, including the pro-PAC media, is trustworthy or accurate.  The little bit of real inside info from trustworthy SMU sources not shared publically conflicts with all of it.

It's a waste to go down that rabbit hole until there are some facts. Right now all we really know is at some point there will be a media deal on the table, and if there is expansion SDSU and SMU are the next two in.

Beyond that is a sea of propaganda by pro-PAC sources, B12 media campaign destabilize or at least damage credibility of PAC relative to B12, baseless speculation, copycats to capitalize on clicks, and somewhere, nuggets of truth unrecognizable in a sea of BS.

Who was the SMU poster saying we'd see an announcement about the media deal on Tuesday or the Pac12 BB tourney? I'm trying to find the post, but it looks like they deleted it.
