  1. Is u of h going into a new sadium in 2013?

They're going to tear down Robertson and build a new stadium on the same site. So they'll be playing elsewhere for 1 or 2 years - either at Reliant or Rice. Although I suppose they could play at the new soccer stadium downtown along with Tx Southern, but it only seats 20k or so, and they'd be 3rd in scheduling.

Edit - Football at Minute Maid Park, anyone? I suppose that's also an option - closer to their campus, but twice the capacity than the soccer stadium. Just don't know if a football field will fit. Think new Yankee Stadium.

  2. And they plan to build a 10,000 seat on-campus stadium, but not right away. Not sure where they have enough land, unless they own the property at the corner of SW Freeway & Fondren where there's a shopping center that would be ripe for being torn down.

Given that they play basketball in a gym that probably seats less than 1000, that's ambitious. But at least they don't think they belong in the Alliance.

  3. her fiance.... hope he mans up and breaks off that engagement.

    Looks that way:

She is engaged to marry Josh Morgan, who is the director of operations for the UA swimming and diving team, according to a website that said it was created by the couple.

On Thursday evening, the website - morgan-dorrell.ourwedding.com - was no longer operable and shows a message: “this site does not contain any usable pages.”

  4. Every fan that buys a seat in the "wing zone" gets a chance to "catch" a autographed jersey from Mean Joe Greene. Now, it's not really a catch but a drawing held each home game after the 3rd quarter. The jumbo tron would show Mean Joe "throwing" a jersey toward the fans (toward the camera) and the lucky winner would be announced over the PA system.

"Hey Mean Green fans...Catch." And then the winner's name would be called.

You have to give Joe your Souvenier-cup-size coke first before you actually get the jersey, so that's an extra $6 in the coffers each week!

    I like this idea!

  5. Some of you may recall that at one time I would post the funnier, more outlandish things I would experience "on tue beat." With my promotion to Detective three years ago and my undercover status I stopped for safety reasons. Well, I promote to Sgt Tuesday and, as such, I'll be bringing some of the crazier stuff from the last three years forward if the demand still exists. So stay tuned.

    Congratulations, Sgt. Tuesday! :goodjob:

(not just the facts! :P )

  6. Wasn't there another thread about the SBC looking to move the tournament to Bilixi Mississippi?

The draw there is River Boat Gambling. Go to the casino before the game.

They never were river boats. Misssissippi law only required that they float, so the casinos all built large buildings on floating barges. It's that way in Lake Charles, LA.

But since Katrina, the casinos on the Mississippi Gulf Coast are allowed to be built on land. In other words, they're not small casinos.

  7. I'm hoping the University, Athletic Dept & Alumni Association will do it right - they certainly had it in place for the Rice game a few years ago until Hurricane Ike hit. But if they don't, then I guess I'll have to mobilize the troops (Houston Alumns) and put one together.

  8. I'll say it again - I'd like to see the UH game considered like it's the 6th home game.

Of course, living in the Houston area, that's easy for me to say.

The LSU game would be easier for me to get to, but I have a feeling I'll enjoy the K-State game more.

  9. Will the MAC try to go after a replacement? WKU or MTSU

Besides UMass, there are several other 1-AA teams in the northeast (Stony Brook & Albany, both in NY, are two that I know I've heard about) that want to move up, so I don't think the MAC is going to want to expand their footprint.

  10. no idea where that is but i would be down if it not too far

It's just west of the Galleria. From Conroe, during rush hour? Good luck getting there before the game ends.

We'll have to start having football game-watching parties again this fall. But these on-the-spur-of-the-moment basketball games, especially on a weekday, is impossible to make happen.

  11. Honestly, from a marketing perspective, if you really wish people NOT call you North Texas State, you shouldn't bring it up. I'd ditch that sign.

If you want to be called North Texas a sign that reads: "We Are North Texas" would be much better at getting the point across.

What did FFRick's sign say at the NMSU FB game way back when? Something like "If you call us North Texas State one more time I'm coming up to the press box" - that was good.

  12. Anyone going to watch or know of a good place to the title game somewhere in north or northeast Houston (humble/spring/Conroe areas)

Hopefully Kingwood Green will see this and answer you.

How about Sugar Land / SW Houston - anyone? If there's only one or two, I'll give you directions to my house. Send me a PM.
