  1. As a guy that is currently dealing with ADA sidewalk issues (not in Denton) I can tell you this: It is a crippling kick in the nuts. We've had an engineer draw up plans three times, built forms, twisted wire and were ready to pour. Each time the ADA guy has come out and said - Nope. Redo. (All of this due to the grade of a street the city built which we cannot alter. A longer story but that is the gist.)

Believe me there is no ramrodding when it comes to ADA. The government will make you try six ways to Sunday and then and only then you either succeed, get a variance, or go bankrupt.

I can believe it, after hearing the speech by Rep. Mike Kelly of Pennsyvania on the floor of the House of Representatives.

We renovated a ballpark in my hometown. A guy named Tom Bernadowski -- veteran -- [spent a] couple million dollars to renovate our ballpark. The day we were gonna open up, I got a call at the dealership. It said, "Mike, would you come down?" I said, "Why? What's going on?" He said, "We're having trouble with the occupancy permit." So I went down to see it. I said, "What's the problem?" He said, "Well, here. Come in the men's room. Let me show you what the problem is." I said, "We have 1,500 people want to come see the opening ball game tonight." "Yep, but we've got a major problem. You see the mirrors in the restroom are a quarter of an inch too low."

  2. Took this on my morning ride today. I hadn't been around back of the walkway and was kinda impressed with how large the facade looked from the Alumni Pavilion. The trip doubled as a shakedown ride for my newly completed beach cruiser to roadbike build, and a covert spy operation for today's scrimmage. Sadly my front tire was punctured by a broken beer bottle on the hill about 5 minutes after this taking this...

why isn't your bike green? :P

    Thanks for the pic.

  3. Sooooo ummmm......they spent more than we did on a stadium?

No, the stadium was built by the city of Houson for the Houston Dynamo soccer team, with the understanding that it would also be TSU's home field. Check out Google maps to see what TSU has now. It's not even High School quality. What I don't understand is why TSU wouldn't have worked out an agreement with UH to use Robertson Stadium a long time ago, given that the schools are literally adjacent to each other.

  4. This week Sports Authority has a buy one, get 2nd at half price sale on stadium seats. The ad shows the cheap, crappy seats, but they actually have the ones from "The Stadium Chair Company" on this sale - and they have them in GREEN. I did have to go to two different stores (in Houston) since there were only two green ones at each store, but I got four of them.

  5. I think "family weekend" is designed for the families of UNT students to come visit for the weekend, not for families of mean green fans to come to the game. Come for homecoming - watch the parade on the square, eat at Denton County Independent Hamburger, go to Beth Marie's for ice cream.

  6. http://www.texastrib...ed: Top Stories

The University of North Texas System Board of Regents may be on the verge of combining the University of North Texas System Health Science Center in Fort Worth and its flagship institution, the University of North Texas in Denton.

At their upcoming August 16 board meeting, the regents will consider a proposal to study the possibility of merging the two institutions.

The talk of consolidation is part of a growing trend in Texas higher education. The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents recently approved an effort to move the Texas A&M University Health Science Center under the Texas A&M University administration. The University of Texas at Austin is pushing for the creation of a new medical school that would be overseen by the university rather than the University of Texas System.

I stumbled on this article from a link on the Houston Ch 11 website. I've never heard of The Texas Tribune before - anyone familiar with it? Has anyone seen any other articles about this?

Is Lee Jackson going to finally do something for the benefit of the flagship in Denton?!

  7. Similar to how we don't respond to China's government sponsered hackers....because we owe them so much money....and they can figure out who did it. If the Mossad were involved I would have loved to see Dradel Dradel Dradel as the song of choice

No, not "Dreidel", not "Thunderstruck", it should have been Kiss - "Rock and Roll All Nite" - led by the great israeli-American, Gene Simmons!

  8. Here in CO, Kum n' Go is a solid stop...

...plus I giggle a little everytime I see their sign.

A stop at an Iowa Kum & Go was a highlight of a driving trip to Minneapolis back 15 years ago ** - my wife & I still get a laugh over the name! I still treasure the coffee cup I bought there.

** We were on our way to the MST 3000 Conventio-con - good times!
