  1. What were Texas A&I, Wisconsin-Parkside, Austin College, Roosevelt, Central Oklahoma, Trinity, and McMurray back in the 70s ? Were they D-1 ? i honestly dont know, i was actually shocked that West Texas State was D-1 and in the MVC.
  2. I really had no idea that West Texas State was in the Missouri Valley? Why did they go D-2 ? Which ever which way you spin it, this has been a horrible b-ball program and we now have something going here. I like many others would like to see us move in the top 100 and i really thought this was going to be the year that we did that. I think i would rather have a team that wins 20 games a year and has a chance to win the conference every year than a team like Drake or Kent St, where they have a great year and go to the NCAA's and then going back to winning 12 or 14 games.
  3. I am not knocking any of our past teams b/c i am sure we have had some good ones and great players. But I cant understand why you talk so highly of a team that was 15-15, without doing the same of our recent sucess?
  4. I didnt conveniently leave those out b/c I didnt care about that. Who cares if we beat SMU and finished 15-15 for the year? Also in those years we had multiple wins over West Texas State, Tartleton St., Oklahoma City University and some others I have never heard of. But some people like to point out that we have Cameron on the schedule every year but during our glory days our schedule was full of Cameron's. And i would like to point out that JJ has beaten Ok. St, Tulsa, Rice, Baylor, Indiana St., Missouri St., UNC Charolotte, WKU, and a very good South Alabama team.
  5. I cant believe the amount of people who rag on JJ and our b-ball program. I had to get out the media guide and show what a horrible b-ball program this has been. Here is the b-ball program the 30 years before we hired JJ. And even our 20 wins seasons in the 70's were full of games against what are now D-2, D-3, and NAIA schools. For those people that rag on our 1 or 2 wins a year against non D-1 schools, well in our hey day our schedule was full of non D-1 schools. So here are the records the 30 years before JJ. 71-72, 8-18 72-73, 9-16 73-74, 13-13 74-75, 6-20 75-76, 22-4 76-77, 21-6 77-78, 22-6 78-79, 11-16 79-80, 13-14 80-81, 15-12 81-82, 15-12 82-83, 15-15 83-84, 9-19 84-85, 5-23 85-86, 10-18 86-87, 11-17 87-88, 17-13 88-89, 14-15 89-90, 5-25 90-91, 17-13 91-92, 15-14 92-93, 5-21 93-94, 14-15 94-95, 14-13 95-96, 15-13 96-97, 10-16 97-98, 5-21 98-99, 4-22 99-00, 7-20 00-01, 4-24 So in the 30 years before JJ we had 3 seasons of 18 wins or more. In the last 4 years we have won 23, 20, 20, and this year at least 18. I still cant believe that people can get on here and complain about JJ and the program.
  6. The home games during christmas kill us but i know we cant help that. And for whatever dumb reason we had 2 Sunday home games in December at 3pm? Killed our attendance this year. You would think that with our winning the last 4 years that the attendance would be about 3,500-4,000 a game and i guess it is when students are in town. I wonder if our game being moved to 3 next week will affect us? Lot of kids have afternoon b-ball games. Why did they change it ?
  7. Why not have all the first round and quarterfinal games in one gym for instance have all the boys game in Summit or the Convention Center and the girls games in either one as well?
  8. I dont agree with it all. If I go I want to see all the men's games. And on Sunday the 2 men's quarterfinal games will practically be going on at the same time but in different arena's. One game will start at 6:30 in Summit and one will start at 6:45 in the Convention Center. What i always liked about tournaments is you could see the match-ups develop. The 2 teams that would play each other in the semi-final would be playing at the same time. Also to me this would affect attendance for each of those games. I think it was just fine how they had it. And i liked having the play in game. . And then the girls on Saturday and boys on Sunday. Why mess up a good thing?
  9. Just curious Rick, what is your beef with JJ ? He seems to be a great guy, he has won here, he has recruited good kids that graduate. What more do you want besides us winning 25 games a year, playing in your face defense and going to the final 4 every year?
  10. How far is Hot Springs from Denton ? I am guessing about 4 1/2 to 5 hours but really dont know. Also for those who went last year, how were the crowds and the atmosphere. Not for sure if i can go this year any insight would help ! thanks
  11. This discussion is getting so old. This season has been a little disappointing but we also need to put things in perpective. Going into the season we thought we had our starting 5 set with Dom, JW, ET, TT, and George. I dont believe that 5 has started once this year have they ? Then we thought we would have Hogans, Holmen, Shorter, Richard, and Collin coming off the bench. I believe if we are fully healthy this year we are probably about 16-5 at this time. Instead we look out there one game and have Josh, Richard, Shannon, Holmen and George starting. Three guys that we never thought would be starting b/c of injuries. We have had to adjust to different starting lineups, chemistry, and injuries and we are still one of the top teams in the Belt and still have just as good as chance as any to win the thing. ASU to me is the only team that i have felt is more talented than we are this year but no team scares me in the SBC tourney.
  12. Ol' Rick just doesnt want to give JJ and the boys any credit does he ? We stole nothing. They had to throw a 40 footer in just to send it into OT. I thought we were the better team and the game wouldnt have gone to OT if Eric wouldnt have been in foul trouble.
  13. Just curious. Me and a lot of my buddies still love the Sweet Science and we are going to head down to Cowboys Stadium on March 13th to watch the Pound for Pound king in action. Just wondering if there were any other boxing fans on here.
  14. I completely agree. ASU looked better at every position and they are definitely scary. I thought based on Saturday that they are the best team we have played. Extremely talented and young. Good inside and outside game and they play very tough man to man defense. They are going to be good for a while. On the other hand Josh and Tristan are going to have to be more aggressive. with 2 minutes left they only had 11 combined points and we arent going to win any games if that's the case. I think its obvious that we need to be bigger on the front line, and we need a wing player that is a great shooter and who can make a dribble or 2 and pull up and knock shots down. A Chris Davis or Kendrick Davis type.
  15. We had some good players this decade, this would be my all decade team. PG- Ben Bell SG- Kendrick Davis SF- Chris Davis PF- Deginald Erskine C- Shawnson Johnson 2nd Team PG- Josh White SG- Leonard Hopkins SF- Calvin Watson PF- Quincy Williams C- Keith Wooden
  16. We had some great teams and players during the 2000's. I thought it would be cool to do an all decade team. Man we were loaded at RB. Galbreath, Cobbs, JaMario, and Dunbar. I know i will forget guys so please add to the list. QB- Hall RB- Cobbs RB- JaMario WR- Quinn WR- Fitzgerald TE- Muenchow or Blount ? OT- JR Randle OT- I am drawing a blank C- Brewster G- Zuniga G- Once again need help here DE- Awasome DE- Daniels DT- Booger DT- Pruitt LB- Kassell LB- Spencer LB- Taylor Casey CB- McGee CB- Priestly SS- Jones FS- Buckles I know i am missing some folks or forgot so please feel free to chime in.
  17. Well Rick, what coach can we get that fits your expectations ? Obviously you got all the answers and are not satsified with our program, so who do we go get ? I came to a game in the mid 90s and we were terrible. I was in college during the Trilli years and remember losing to Maryland by 75 points. I have a media guide and I have seen the history of our program and I see how dismal it is. I also see that the first 3 years the Pit was opened it averaged over 3K fans a per game and that has happened again until the last 3 years. We had most wins in school history a few years ago and we have followed that up with 2 more 20 win season. Why are you so negative about everything ?
  18. We have won 63 games the previous 3 years with 7 of them going against non D-1 schools. So that means we have 56 wins in the last 3 years which is about 19 a year. We have been to the tourney once in the last 3 years and we have been beat out by the tourney champ and the team that has been sucessful in the NCAA the last 2 years. Maybe my expectations are too low but I would take 20 wins and a chance to win the conference tourney year in and year out as opposed to what ULM has or FAU or MTSU has. As far as the schedule goes, the only reason why we play these non D-1 schools is b/c the major conference teams never want to play us in Denton. And TCU and SMU want no part of us.
  19. Well Rick, We need to go out and hire a coach that gives us 25 wins a year and NCAA tourney bids every year b/c that is what we are used to. We shouldnt stand for this coach that only barely squeaks out 20 wins a year.
  20. By the way we played against TSU, I wouldnt say that it helped us focus. Really hard to judge this team right now. Hopefully we will play well today.
  21. Our loss against FIU is looking worse and worse. Should be freakin 9-3 right now.
  22. It always amazes me that people get on here and gripe about the b-ball program and JJ. All you have to do is get a media guide and look at how dismal this program was and figure out that we are in good shape. Gonzaga is probably the only mid major that is a powerhouse year in and year out, every other top mid major has its ups and downs. We have had 3 straight 20 win seasons and I think we only had 2 or 3 in the whole history of the program. And go back and look at those 20 win seasons and they were filled with teams like West Texas A&M and ACU and programs like that. With saying that, I am disappointed at how the season has gone so far. I think having Dom out has totally changed this season. If you go back and look at the last 10 or 12 games of last year with the starting line-up of Dom, JW, TT, ET, and George we were playing really well and we had a lot of double digits wins and we went blow for blow with WKU who was a buzzer beater away from being in the sweet 16. Hopefully we can find a way to get going and tigthen up our defense and attack more on offense.
  23. Lets bring DD back to be the OC. He could show Dodge how to incorporate a TE and a fullback. We could have TD's passing game with DD's run game and we would have the best of both world's.
  24. Well the combination of Dom and Josh got us 20 wins last year and they were playing really well down the stretch last year. I love Collin but I like him coming off the bench.
