1). Consistently competing in and winning football games. We got a taste of this in 2013. This will not happen overnight, but I do expect to see us have a much better 2016 season. 2). Getting a signature win. We had a good first half against Georgia in 2013, but truthfully - this program has not seen a signature win since the Tennessee win back in the Fry era. This has to happen at some point if we expect to jump start our fan following. 3). Fill Apogee. This is an albatross hanging over the neck of the program right now. If Littrell could make it happen it would be a defining moment in his career here. Scheduling some teams who bring fans would help. 4). Connect and reconnect with the fan base. Embrace them. Move away from the secret and select. Open up practices at least to media. Open up social media. With our numbers, social media is a strength that is extremely underutilized. Every person covering the program you can connect with could be spreading the gospel to the masses. Mac never got this and in the old days it was common to keep everything under wraps until game day. Now, there is too much competition for the entertainment dollar. 5). Take chances. What do you have to lose. Make the game entertaining. Mac's conservative nature led to frustrating and boring games. 6). reconnect with our former players. If we could get all of our former players to get engaged with the program again, we would easily sell out Apogee. This is not easy, but it can be done. I would consider creating a staff position focused on this job alone and pay them a bonus based on achievable goals. Let's hear more!

The University of North Texas has named University of North Carolina assistant coach Seth Littrell as its next head football coach. The announcement was made official by the Mean Green athletics department Saturday evening. Littrell was one of two finalists with Texas Christian University offensive coordinator Doug Meacham, but a source close to the hiring process told North Texas Daily Meacham was a distant second place to Littrell throughout the process. The Tar Heels finished 16th in total offense this season, averaging 495 yards per game, and 18th in rushing offense with 229 rushing yards per game. North Carolina also scored the 11th most points in the country this season with 41 per game. Meanwhile, the North Texas offense finished 123rd out of 127 FBS teams in scoring offense and 117th in total offensive yards in 2015. TV: 7PM CST ABC #1 Clemson (-5) is the favorite. A Clemson victory secures the Tigers’ place in the College Football Playoff. A North Carolina victory would give the Tar Heels their first ACC championship in 35 years. This is probably the most anticipated ACC Championship game in the 11-year history of the event. It’s also among the most important games in UNC football history. New UNT Head Coach Seth Littrell will lead the UNC offense. To celebrate a new era in UNT Football I think we should honor the past in the opening home game next season. And I think the Alumni Pavilion could a small expansion and minor improvements. Seth Littrell, who for the past two seasons has been the offensive coordinator at North Carolina, will be the new head coach at North Texas, according to an ESPN report on Saturday. If Littrell leaves UNC, he would do so after he helped lead the Tar Heels to one of the most prolific offensive seasons in school history. The Tar Heels enter the ACC Championship game on Saturday night against Clemson averaging 495.7 yards per game, which ranks 16th nationally. UNC averages 7.46 yards per play, which is second nationally. The Tar Heels' offense has been particularly explosive this season, too, which is something I wrote about here. The timing of this news isn't ideal for the Tar Heels, who will play one of the most important games in school history on Saturday night. I cannot help but think that being closer to his his family in Muskogee played a part in this hire. I also like that Littrell, despite being from OK, is more of a Texas type of guy, He fits here. The money is certainly going to be good, but clearly there are things more important that money, like proximity to friends and family. I also think that proximity to high level FBS prospects plays in our favor here. I posted an article on University of Houston being a good coaching destination. Those of us who have followed Houston over the years know well how much crap they had to deal with from the UT's and A&M's of the world calling them stupid names like "Cougar High" and all that bullshit. I feel like we can do very similar things as the only public university in the metroplex playing division I football. I have to think that Littrell as well as Meacham and other candidates considered this as well.

Every year, we find out about QB's who have graduated with their degree but still have one year of eligibility left and can immediately transfer to an FBS program. La. Tech has done this twice now, and UAB had one the year before. It CHANGES program fortunes in C-USA. It is honestly the biggest game changer you can have. My guess is that we will see something similar here with Littrell. He will find a guy who can run this offense while trying to recruit the best freshman he can find.

Little known fact, Littrell was directly responsible for the recruiting of Michael Crabtree at Texas Tech. Pretty impressive talent evaluation in my book.

Per Zach Barnett on Twitter, as of 8:30 this morning, we have not signed a contract with Littrell, or anyone else yet. So at best, we are currently working with a handshake agreement...

I know we don't know that much about him, but he seems like sort of a take no bullshit type of guy. I like that he was a team captain on a national championship team. Like @Cerebus has mentioned, he was a 4-year assistant under Mike Leach. I may like that more than any other credential he has and he has a damn lot of them. It excites me that we could be the launching pad for a brilliant head coaching career. When was the last time we had someone leave here for better things? Hayden Fry?

Bill Elliott, the head coach at Celina, has gotten to know Littrell, who helped recruit his son to North Carolina, over the last few months. Nathan Elliott is a freshman with the Tar Heels. "He likes coach Littrell," Bill Elliott said of his son. "He thinks he is a great coach and a lot of fun. They run a wide-open offense with a fast tempo. They are so productive. There is a lot of excitement to it." UNT is close to finalizing its decision that could bring Littrell -- and that excitement -- to UNT. If UNT settles on Littrell, he would likely not be available to have an introductory press conference until Sunday at the earliest. North Texas’ search for a new head coach took a turn over the last day with TCU assistant coach Doug Meacham going from appearing to be on the verge of landing the job back to be just a candidate for the position. Meacham is still in the running for the job, according to sources at UNT, but at this point it appears as if the school is turning its attention to its other finalist — North Carolina assistant Seth Littrell. A source close to Littrell suggested that the sides have already discussed parameters of a contract, one that could be ready to be finalized.
