  1. The video at the top of this blog contains highlights of UNT’s Friday Night Lights camp and is capped with Dan McCarney talking a little about both Friday’s camp and UNT’s Talon Talent camp on Thursday. McCarney has some interesting things to say about how the camps went, including how UNT fared with some of its top recruiting targets. I listed about 10 of them on the blog last night. I talked with Mesquite linebacker Jalen Montgomery, one of those top targets, late last night. 2. UNT had 417 players at Friday Night Lights tonight. Dan McCarney had a smile from ear to ear afterward. It was a great turnout for UNT, which had a couple of good days on the recruiting trail. UNT picked up a commitment from South Oak Cliff wide receiver Fonzale Davis and also landed Deer Park quarterback Connor Means. Thursday night’s Talon Talent camp was when UNT had most of its top targets in, including Davis, who committed afterward. Read more: http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2013/07/10347.html/

As we talked about last night, UNT’s Talon Talent camp paid big dividends when Fonzale Davis, a wide receiver from South Oak Cliff, committed to UNT. Friday Night Lights is tonight. The annual camp that is open to any high school player has grown over the years and is a big recruiting tool for UNT. 6. They came from across the state, from Lake Travis to Denton, with some considered as top college prospects, like West Mesquite defensive back Will Earley, while others will be fighting for starting spots on their high school team this fall. What they all shared Friday night was a decision to give up one of their last free Friday nights before the beginning of fall practice at high schools across the state to spend a few hours at “Friday Night Lights.” North Texas’ final football camp of the summer attracted approximately 300 players, along with several dozen coaches and parents who watched workouts under the lights at Apogee Stadium. “We had great numbers and outstanding high school kids here,” UNT head coach Dan McCarney said. “It was a lot of fun and another step in the direction we want to go with this program. We already had over 900 kids at the camps that we had in June and had another 300 for a one-night camp.” Players went through position drills and worked with UNT’s assistants, who got a better look at some of the players they are targeting in recruiting after staging satellite camps across the state earlier this summer. read more: http://www.dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/north-texas-headlines/20120729-football-unt-gets-another-look-at-players.ece
