  1. Complaining does not bother me, apathy does.  If people want to volley back and forth over good/bad, coaches, play calling etc., I think that's great.  When people stop talking then we've got a problem!

The most important thing is to still show up and support the players.  When things are bad is when they need us the most!  Fans in the stands is what helps turn around bad seasons.  The ability to bring in recruits to see fans at games can help tip a player your direction even if the product on the field is bad.  You want both to be good, but fan support is a must.

Fan support for a team does not mean blind allegiance!  You can still question what is happening while at the same time supporting you school and team.  Because someone complains doesn't mean they're any less of a fan of the team.  In many cases, some of those complaining are more diehard than the blind supporters who jump on a bandwagon during good years.  Case in point, there is no stronger supporter/fan than FFR who has been thru the very bad and the good.  If he's wondering why things have fallen off so much, he has that right.  We all know that football is a what have you done lately sport.  There are people ready to run Chuck Long (OC) out of OU or how about Joe Pa. (Penn St.) or Phil Fullmer (Tenn), and even Chuck Amato (NC St.).  All with good histories of success that are now hearing the rumblings from fans.  It's natural and in some ways it's good. It shows people care. Anything is better than apathy.

    Excellent Post.

  2. We smoked the team that beat you.  You guys have had less than stellar out of conference records in years you went bowling.  Give us our due.  Your number is coming up.  Am I saying we will win, the conference...no.  It is a long way from over, but I do think we deserve more respect than y'all are giving us.

    No. you earn respect tongue.gif

  3. "We all feel pretty good about it," ULM offensive tackle Kyle Cunningham said. "The biggest thing is, we all need to get healthy over the next few weeks and not lose our focus. We have to make sure that everybody keeps on their mind that we've got five games left. We need to keep on track."

Where else but the Belt does a team feel good with a 3-4 record after getting beat by a 1-AA team blink.gifblink.gifblink.gif

    ALSO

"We've got five games left" - Are they playing 12 this year or is he already counting the Bowl? unsure.gifunsure.gif

  4. I'd be most interested to see where we rank in the "good decision making" category...both by the coaching staff and players, broken out by team and individual statistics.

The problem with that is everything is subjective and outcome based. Case in point, during the USC – ND game since USC scored it was a great decision, but if they don’t score it would have been considered on of the biggest mistakes ever.

These Meager/Bomar comparisons really crack me up.  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

It's sort of like comparing Ben Roethlisberger to David Carr.  One has a great coach and supporting cast...the other doesn't.

As I recall, Bomar was the number 1 ranked HS QB in the nation.  He may never live up to his expectations, but when's the last time UNT had a #1 ranked player at any position??

    Here are some more similarities:

Both have former college QBs for offensive coordinators.

Both have great RBs in their backfield.

    Both are RS Freshmen.

Both have head coaches that won a national title, uh, I mean conference title.

And here are some drastic differences:

    Bomar is allowed to run.

Bomar is allowed to call audibles.

Bomar doesn't play against SBC teams.

    Bomar has 741 passing yards.

Yes but………, I mean ........., well you have to understand.........

If we had a new stadium (sorry Plumm had to say it) everything would be OK

  6. It was actually the most powerful storm ever in the Atlantic Basin with a pressure of 882. Wilma is one bad mama. My thoughts and prayers to all who are in the path. This year has seen 3 of the most powerful storms(as measured by barometric pressure) ever recorded in Katrina, Rita, and Wilma.

Although it did not hit the US - Stan was a bad one also

  7. Then it must be a version of the word only used by the very, very, very, smart.  It's not listed as a proper word on dictionary.com, merriam webster's online dictionary or any other online dictionary source.  In fact, there is a site which claims to search 780 online dictionaries simultaneously and it returns this:

    http://www.onelook.com/?loc=pub&w=alumus

Google ask -Did you mean: alumni

but then it shows many references for Alumus wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

  8. I bet we're loosing because YOU didn't cheer hard enough.

I really don't understand the nay-sayers on this board.  Is it really hard to accept that this is the best NT has ever had?

We have a coach who understands what he has to work with, and what type of recruits we can pull.

We have an AD who understands how to build a program/fan base incrementally, using the resources we have.

We're in a D1 conference that we can be competitive in.

Shaft - it could also be said that we also miss out on some good recruits because of the style of ball we play. Even when they were ral bad UTEP puleed in some better than average QB and receivers due to the style of O they used. Again, IMO, we can try and play Dickey style "smash mounth" ball in the Sun Belt, but the OOC performance (not just the OOC records) speakes volumes.

  9. Cable companies and satellite dishes.

Just wondering but how much of an impact does having what seems like every football game played on a weekend on the air have in keeping causal fans away from games in area they did not go to school? Year’s back you would have a lot of people move in to the Dallas, Houston, etc. areas that had went to college elsewhere. Since they could not see to many games they might have been more likely to go to a NT, U of H, etc. game. Now they can stay at home and see any number of games.

  10. want to put even more fans in the stands, stop rolling out a boring as hell offense which ranks dead last in the NCAA. People aren't going to spend their entertainment bucks on Saturdays to watch a lousy football team stink it up with a boring offense.

Ding. Ding. Ding. We have a winner. Dickey ball has proven to be the best ball played in the Sun Belt, but I believe everyone will agree that it is not the most exciting. Combine that with the typical opponent we get at home and it is not hard to understand why it has been a challenge to get new fans in the stands. Say what you will about UTEP, but even in their really bad years they played a wide-opened game – they might give up 50 or more but they were scoring 40+ a game. So even though the fans new they might not win they knew they would be entertained.

  11. One of my big concerns for this game is that I believe LaTech will take this game as more of a challenge to their future (C-USA) than NT seems to (reference our OOC record under DD). So, it all depends on which North Texas team shows up. If it’s the team that played FIU smile.gif

    Tech 34 NT 13

If it’s the team that played so good against ………, uh oh we could be in trouble unsure.gif

  12. 32's Quote - Yes, I do call that a marvel. How many teams do you think win scoring 13 points off 8 turnovers?

    Could it be that ....

FIU, despite what DD said, is a really bad team?

That FIU has NEVER won a game against a D1 team?

The rest of the Belt is not catching the Mean Green, we have sunk to their levels?

  13. You think? You are a GENIUS!

Teams will not win it all every year. Are you only a supporter when things are good?

I know we are not lighting the world on fire, we are far from it, but after 4 years of dominance you are FINE with people not coming due to a half season of troubles?

That is the crap that sets me off!

A 1/2 of a bad season, after 4 seasons of dominance, and people arwe perfectly OK with people not coming back.

Hell, after we lose a game, why don't we all just quit coming! We lose to Troy and no one comes back. Hell, if we aren't winning lets not come
