I dont understand why everything on the uni is outlined except the “SMU”

It's fairly obvious they are trying to distance themselves from the name SMU. I can't say I blame them with the history of cheating at the school but for some reason they have made a very directed marketing plan at disassociating themselves with the name SMU

It seems like everything related to the NCAA is destined to be determined by a court of law.  The NCAA seems reluctant to fix these problems, I wonder if they even can?

I don't think there was a doubt that they needed the rules to change; it seems that everyone is doing something, just to do something without regard for what will happen. The NCAA and schools were threatened with lawsuits and congressional intervention. So instead of actually trying to do something that helped and worked, they go ahead, and we trust you will behave (how else could you put out a program where you cannot enforce rules against tampering and it is clear that the players, in most cases, are being paid to play).

If they don't then Congress will step in and then it will really get screwed u

I am one who believes that Congress can make a mess out of anything, but I'm not sure they could have made it any worse, but I am sure they would like to try.

  3. It seems they wanted to skip college and get paid originally. This "league," which pays players, also has the option to give them the same money but call it an NIL deal if they prefer. Sorry, but NIL has become so sleazy, and there is so much crap being allowed to happen since everyone is more worried about getting sued. Hard to believe that many schools and players give a damn about college sports. I wish they would split off professionalism from college sports before they completely ruin the college game.

The recruiting aspect is going to be a big sign on if this staff can succeed. Morris focusing on HS and still seems to be is a mistake. I could care less about what coach has the inside track on a certain HS or HS connections! We should be transfer “U” and I hope every true fan is making a pledge to the NIL! The grassroots effort is very inspiring and we should all participate! GMG

Somewhere between agreeing and disagreeing with you on this one. It is important to keep up the HS connections, but even more so for UNT to be the school these kids might transfer to. I also agree we need to focus on transfers. We could benefit a lot from looking at those trying to move "up" from FCS, D2, and JUCO (I believe many outstanding JUCO players are getting left behind due to all of the transfers). We must also be cautious about P5 players and understand why they transfer. Someone not getting to play at a P5 might be a more significant risk than those who have been playing and are looking to move up.

    Matt Caponi
    Current position
    Title Defensive Coordinator/CB Coach
    Team North Texas
    Biographical details
    Born Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
    Playing career
    2000–2003 Mount Union
    Position(s) Safety
    Coaching career (HC unless noted)
    2004 Mount Union (SA)
    2005 Mount Union (LB)

It's almost like these guys might run the same defense.....

Slightly different results. Better players at Toledo or better coaching?
Toledo gives up 19.3 points per game, and 318 yards
We give up 36.7 and 469

My top pick would be Bryant Haines, the DC at JMU.

Greg Gasparato — First year DC at Troy — has also been impressive. However, he’s still a bit inexperienced compared to Haines and Kehres, so I’m not as confident he could quickly generate similar success here.

Here is the last reported information on his salary

Well it probably wasn't a rebuilding year.. Until you lost Cole Brown, Varkeyes Gumm, Jake Roberts, Deshawn Gaddie, Larry Nixon, Cam Robertson, Jyaire Shorter.. Not to mention already having to replace Manase Moses and KD Davis. Then hiring a coach that missed the whole early signing period didn't help. So yes I would 110% qualify this as a rebuilding year. With a full off-season I believe we see a completely different team next fall. Not to mention they have only lost by one possession each of the last three games against 3 of the best 4 in conference. Not bad for having the absolute worst defense in the country.

Morris has a significant career make-or-break decision to make. Does an offseason and recruiting help to turn the tide on the defense? If he goes forward with Caponi and we suffer another year of being one of the worst defenses in FBS, will the damage be so bad that Morris' career at UNT is shot, not to mention we might have just loaded our team with players who might not fit the next DC's scheme?

You Can't compare Morris to Kinne. Kinne had half of his team from UIW transfer into T-State. How was Morris going to get WSU kids to come to UNT? Not happening, not to mention Kinne's kids from UIW were all from Morris era at UIW. Morris will figure this out. To all UNT fans, take a note from Aaron Rodgers. R-E-L-A-X.

I think the players and, more importantly, the staff members he brought with him from UIW have made a tremendous difference. The area that has separated the jobs they are doing this year is the Defenses.

It's almost as if there isn't a way to combat that. Only if... you know.

In hindsight, it's also apparent we had some outstanding O-line coaches here the past couple of years. I am not saying the coaches we have now are incapable, but I have always thought that O-line and DC were two areas where it helps to have experienced coaches.

I dont think we could have kept them here unless we had come up with a mountain of money. (Just my opinion)

Examples of how idiotic teams can be with NIL money. Gumms has two catches this year. Roberts has 16, and Alberding has one (Shorter has only one catch also).

Give Morris time. I think he’s going to be good.

I believe he has a chance based on what he seems to bring to the game offensively, but it depends on his willingness to find a qualified DC who can adapt to the talent he has available to him. If he sticks with the Air Raid mentality, where it seems that little concern is given to the defense, then we will not get where most fans want us to be.

Defense wins championships. Littrell never learned this. Morris has yet to figure it out. I miss Skladany.

This is something that Mike Leach must not have believed in and taught. I cannot think of one of his coaching tree coaches that has a good defense.
