  1. I've been in Seattle all week, is TF at Walmart yet? Thanks
  2. Could someone please help me out by calculating all the receivers we have now signed and/or have verbal commitments from for the 08-09 season. With Dickey Ball, I could count with my fingers the number of WR's but had to pull out the calculator on the number of TE. Thanks in advance!
  3. Is it a waste of money to sign a kid who is better than your starting point guard?
  4. Meant to say he would only play 1 year instead of 1 semester. Another benefit is that Dez was a legend at DeSoto; leading them to their only 5A state title. It never hurts to continue to develop the DISD/Southern Dallas County pipeline to Denton where hoops is the hotbed of the state. Lastly, it looks like JJ will not add another player to the 07 Class. If this is the case, the exact same scholarship to Dez would go to another big in the fall of 07 or spring of 08. Keep in mind, Josh White is recovering from an injury.
  5. He's leaving SMU because he has already graduated. He wants a Masters in Education which SMU doesn't offer. He signed with SMU because he's from DeSoto and his dad played for Jimmy Tubbs at Kimball. SUMG brings up a good point, what does it hurt? I like to think JJ is still holding out hope that a Rod Flemings will pull a Bill Donavan and return. Dez would only play one semester and could actual mentor the younger guards. What's a little competition? The irony though is that he could help convince fellow DeSoto Eagle Flemings to return but would take the only ship available. Maybe he can pay his way the first year and use the ship the next year after Ben Bell is gone. (unless you have so many years to play)

  7. Gee Gangrene, I was going to see that movie!
  8. A few times! (in person and on TV) Also went back and watched the 1st half of the championship game against Westlake. The kid was consistently pushed off the line of scrimmage (or out of the play) by smaller linemen than he'll see in D1 football. Harry I also love attitude and aggression but I'd like to see it on taller and much bigger prototype linebackers. I realize the kid is probably 16 or 17 at the most. I do anticipate that he will add 10-20 more pounds by the time he comes off a redshirt year. That will still put him at 215-220. Speed is not that critical if you are constantly on you butt. There are several examples of smaller players making it. (College and NFL) They are the exception to the rule. For every exception, however, there are hundreds and thousands that don't make the bill. Dat Nguyen, Dexter Coakley and others had fine college careers and made it to the NFL. Their days in the NFL were numbered because of their lack of size at that position. I'm all for Todd Dodge and what he thinks is best for the program. This is not Todd Dodge (or Tomlin) bashing. The facts are that we are the only school to offer Tomlin a scholarship. I would think that the other schools have seen him play more than any of us. TD should rightfully get a pass because he did coach the kid in HS and has more confidence in him than others. Was this offer necessary at this time? (June) Not to piss anyone off, but I'm not looking to recruit the next Taylor Casey, Scott Hall etc. etc. These guys contributed in a huge way but I have visions of moving up the D1 ranks. At some point in time, we will get a much bigger and nicer stadium to attract stronger programs to. I would like to be around to attend those games with a realistic thought that we will win. After the offer to small slot receiver (to be) out of Hillcrest that plays quarterback at 150-160 lbs, I am just not too excited with the addition of more smallish players. I have not seen the Hillcrest kid play, but will in the fall. Just an alum's unpopular opinion
  9. I'm with you SilverEagle! I know the kid has a nice write up on Rivals but please no more undersized kids. Yea, he may be moved to some other position, he's a Carroll kid, Dodge knows him, trust in Dodge etc etc....
  10. Nice thinking TD! Pick the kids brain before the SMU game. If it works, offer a ship. If not, direct him to the financial aid's office.
  11. Someone needs to mention that Dodge turned Bill Parcells down last year. Though he may leave in time, his sights will be much higher than Tulsa.
  12. Well, at least you can say that your high school produced the most heisman trophy winners in the country.
  13. I would actually go into the game without a sip of beer or alcohol. But, after a half of Dickey Ball, It would lead me to drink once I got home. Just kidding. (never been a drinker) Seriously, a fun, entertaining and winning style of ball is the key to increased attendance.

  15. May 30, 2007 TexasHoops.com Recruiting Staff The junior college ranks in Texas have pretty much been completely raided by Division I programs, but there are still a few players left who are unsigned and ready to contribute. Herve Banogle, a hard-working 6-foot-8, 255-pound forward at Howard College in Big Spring, is a prime example. He's still on the board and is taking his time with the recruiting process while trying to find a place to play. "Herve's still looking right now," said Howard assistant coach Jason Sautter. "He was looking at the East Coast a little at schools like Manhattan and DePaul also wants him to come in on a visit. Manhattan has offered him and he went on a visit there and liked it - it's not too far from where his family is from. But he's still open right now." Banogle has also made visits to Connecticut and Cal State Northridge, although neither situation will be a match for him at this time. That leaves two visits for him to take and Sautter indicates the native of The Cameroon is open to anybody and everybody that might want to bring him in. On paper, the statistics on Banogle aren't eye-popping - he only averaged 1.7 points and 2.3 rebounds this past season and 2.9 points and 3.2 rebounds as a freshman. But Banogle is one of those players who does the little things to help you win - and at this stage of the game, a program looking for a big man who can do those things could find themselves a contributor. "Herve can guard guards, he can guard posts, and he's a big body who rebounds," Sautter said. "He can score a little around the basket and he does a good job of sealing off his defender. He's a warrior type who doesn't shy away from contact at all." Banogle has graduated with his associates degree from Howard, so academically he's all good to go. But even though everything appears to be all set with him, don't assume that he's going to jump at any opportunity thrown in front of his face. "He's taking his time," Sautter said. "He's not rushing into anything."
  16. I first saw Tristan Thompson at the state tournament in March of 2006 torch a very good South Oak Cliff squad for 37 points. It was SOC against Thompson! (or vice-versa) I don't want to go overboard here but the kid looked just like Dwayne Wade. He can score anywhere on the court and is a dominating type player. I certainly would not try to read anything into where a kid ranked (if there is such a thing) at his high school or prep team. The nation is getting familiar with a new star in the NBA in Deron Williams. Deron was not the star of his HS team at The Colony. Brewster Academy, as I've come to learn, is more in the class of Oak Hill Academy and others powerhouses across the country. Duncanville HS won the state championship in class 5A in a big way this past year but would not have come close to San Antonio Cornerstone (before several kids left) Cornerstone was loaded top to bottom. I had the pleasure of watching Oak Hill this past year in Dallas and their bench was also loaded with D1 talent. Kevin Durant (Montross Christian HS- MD) played in the same tournament in Dallas the year before. Montross had 2 other guys on that team that signed with mid-major programs that no one else has heard about. Greg Oden was a legend at his Indianapolis HS but few people knew of Mike Conley Jr. Conley will be a top 5 NBA player after Oden at #1. I took in the Great American Shootout in Carrollton this past weekend. Many of these AAU teams have guys coming off the bench that I would love for JJ to sign. HS ball today is very competitive. I admire kids like Thompson, who had been THE guy on his prior team, to realize that playing with and/or against the best is better for him in the long run. I maintain that if JJ handles the situation correctly, Thompson should be a serious contender for "Newcomer of the Year" in the Sun Belt. I can see him averaging 18 ppg his freshman year easy. He's a much better player than Calvin Watson right now.
  17. Tristan Thompson will be the high scorer and possibly "Newcomer of the year"
  18. Charlie Ward won the Heisman Trophy as quarterback at Florida State and of course had a long productive NBA career. Bo Jackson was great in football and baseball player at Auburn. Deon Sanders was a great baseball and football player at FSU as well.
  19. I don't think we will ever have a local rivalry until we are in the same conference and/or the conferences are perceived as equals.
  20. I've never seen Adam McCoy play basketball. I've seen Collin Dennis play since his freshman year in HS. If McCoy is a better player, we will have a damn good basketball team.
  21. One of Fritz Von Erick's sons played both sports at UNT (Atkinson). I don't know what happened to Seneca Collins but he would have been good at both sports. Robert Williams is a better basketball player than football player. (and he was very good at Kimball in football) It probably made more sense to have signed him 2 years ago to play basketball rather than now. Though he can jump out of the gym, he is a tweener at 6-4 (small forward) and it appears JJ has elevated his recruiting a notch. Williams was the 3 while Odufawa played the 5 at Kimball. I'm speechless how Kimball has more talent annually than anyone else yet don't do anything in the playoffs. District rival SOC won state this past year with a lesser team while Kimball lost to Spruce by 30. Texas Hoops has 4 returning Kimball kids ranked in their top 50; not counting a top 10 Jr and Soph.
  22. I'd add the starting quarterback (Ken Washington) ahead of Jordan Case since he was better.
  23. May 25, 2007 TexasHoops.com Recruiting Staff It's always hard to play for a coach that you didn't sign with. But given head coach Herb Sendek's reputation, George Odufuwa thought he'd give it a try at Arizona State. Unfortunately things didn't work out the way either end wanted it to, so the 6-foot-8, 240-pound power forward made the decision to transfer. The former Dallas Kimball High School standout didn't have to look too far from home to find a new place to play. "I'm coming back home to play at UNT (North Texas)," Odufuwa said. "I just felt that UNT is a place where I could have a huge impact. I like the program, the coaches, and there are good people there. And I like to surround myself with good people." Odufuwa is looking for a fresh start at North Texas. So after deciding to leave Arizona State after the season ended, he asked for and received his release, and contact began with the Mean Green. He'll have to sit out the requisite year due to NCAA rules, but sees it as a chance to improve his skills. "I'll be playing the four, but I'll be able to create," Odufuwa said. "So I'll need to work on my ball-handling. I also want to improve my shooting - something that I'm already working on but I want to get it better." At North Texas, Odufuwa will get a fresh start after a freshman season that produced minimal statistics - 0.7 points and 0.8 rebounds in a scant 4.8 minutes a contest. Although his time in Tempe was short, Odufuwa has no hard feelings. "It was positive," Odufuwa said. "Coach (Herb) Sendek is a good coach and he preaches discipline, and I'll keep that with me. He helped make me a better player too." Texas Hoops Analysis (Fall '05): GEORGE is a player with a huge upside who could really explode when he puts the mental toughness together with his physical abilities. He has an excellent basketball body, has a nice touch from 17 feet, can score on the low block, runs the floor very well and has good hands. He is a very good rebounder, makes good outlets passes and can block shots.
