  4. I just reviewed Wilson's film clips on Rival.com. Positives: Legit 4.6 speed. Very mobile. At times looks like a poor man's Michael Vick. Throws well on the run. Will not get sacked as often as past quarterbacks. Drops back very quickly in the pocket. Will pull the ball down and run down field. Negatives: Didn't see any option runs. (Maybe the offense of Coffeyville) Pulls the ball down too quick without allowing the play to develop down field. Runs with the ball a lot. (Which is probably why he broke his shoulder) Like Michael Vick, I think that he may be injury prone. My brief visual observation: He moves right under center in the spring. Appears to be a clear upgrade over our current quarterbacks. With his mobility and style of play, I think he can help our running game tremendously. I don't see opposing defense keying totally on Jamario. Not a BCS quality QB, but compares favorably to Monroe's QB (Lyles, I think) If he should win the starting position (he should being a Juco recruit) I can see the need for a solid #2 and #3 QB. His size and propensity to run so much, opens himself up for injuries.

  6. Also, if you guys look at some of the clips from Rivals you can see the separation speed that he possess

  8. Without question, the 19 point blow-out of West Texas State to stake claim as the #1 team in Texas! Additionally, ending our best season ever at 22-4, with the realistic expectation of receiving an NCAA Tournament Bid. Mean Green Ruffs Buffs in 88-69 Win With the aid of the most emotional display of basketball spirit perhaps ever witnessed at North Texas, the Mean Green strapped a 19-point loss on the West Texas State Buffaloes Monday night. A near capacity crowd watched the Eagles as they ran their season record to 22-4, the best record ever in the history of the university. Senior guard Carl Jones paced the fast moving Eagles with 22 points. Junior guard Walter (Weasel) Johnson was next with 19. It was Johnson who almost single-handedly worked the Eagles’ impressive stall against West Texas in the closing minutes of the game. He wheeled and dealed in and out of the Buffs defense, and when he successfully drew them out, he would make one of his patented behind-the-back passes, setting up easy buckets. But it was sophomore forward Fred Mitchell who stole the show when with 10 seconds remaining on the Coliseum scoreboard he intercepted a wayward West Texas pass. He quickly threw the ball to sophomore forward Ken Williams, who crammed it into the basket. Although the points were not important at that time, the shot did bring the 8,800 Coliseum fans to their feet and the noise they made must have made the ghosts of the neighboring “Old Pit” raise up and take notice. The 19-point licking was the worst handed to the Buffaloes this season and it may have decided once and for all the “Battle of Texas.” Senior forward Terry Bailey played an exceptionally physical game on the inside, hitting for 17 points and dragging down 11 rebounds, a team high. Bailey’s point total brought his season record to 501, placing him ninth in the NT record book. His career-scoring total now rests at 907 for an 11th place slot. He also has 201 field goals in a single season for sixth place. “It was a rough game,” Coach Blakely said. “The officials weren’t calling it very close but I do think they called a good game.” Senior guard Earl King did not get into the game but Blakely had praise for him also. “King didn’t play tonight but he did a fantastic job all season, on and off the court,” he said. Blakeley said the crowd was extremely helpful, citing the missed free throws of West Texas as a result of the cheering crowd. “It would be great if we could fill it up (Coliseum) all the time,” he said. In the past the first-year coach had said that for each thousand fans, the gained a one-point advantage. Monday night they game him two points per thousand. As a result of the Eagle victory, North Texas now stands a good chance for an NCAA playoff bid. Asked where he wanted to go, Blakeley said, “We’ll go anywhere, even Snook, Tex., if that’s where we have to.” North Texas must await a decision from the NCAA, which will be forthcoming Thursday.
  9. Not impressed with our 05 signing class at all!
  10. I don't care where the games are played but the venue should accommodate everyone willing to pay for a ticket and make the trip. This is Texas! 12,000 is ridicules for a championship game. Heck, I'm sure HP would not have objected to playing back at Fouts this week.

  13. The difference in my expectation of the basketball program to football is based on the level of play and history of the Sun Belt Conference (in each sport) The Sun Belt is still a start up league for most of its football member schools. (Many just moved up from D1 AA) The Sun Belt’s basketball schools have a richer history and tradition of being more successful, while always being D1. Prior to going to the WAC, New Mexico State was no lightweight in hoops. Western Kentucky is very competitive nationally. Lafayette, Little Rock, New Orleans etc play a much higher-level game than the Belt Football squads. Hence, a higher rank basketball conference. Don't get me wrong; the fat lady will be clearing her voice on JJ soon if we aren't approaching 20 wins. I think he has had some questionable signing in his classes. As others have stated, his overall demeanor to the fans and community is so much better that he may be given a pass. Bottom line, we just want to see annual progress in all programs!
  14. Don't see what Chapman did this year! Starting the last 9 games with an ankle injury kind of tells you what kind of year he had. I'm glad to know that he was injured because I was getting ready to place him on my first team "Must Replace" list this spring. Holman, in my opinion, was our defensive MVP. Don't remember our punter's name but he should have received votes for offensive MVP. Oh well, so much for these all-conference polls. Where did the Darrell finish this year?
  15. 12/5) Warriors and weather stop Cards from winning at Indian Hills/Hy Vee Classic. #2 Mineral Area dropped their first game of the season 74-54 to #5 Indian Hills on Friday. Curtis Muse was the lone bright spot scoring 21 points. Snow stopped DesMoines Area from traveling to Saturday's game, forcing the Cards to leave Iowa 0-1 on the trip. DJ Article Indians Hills hands Mineral Area first loss By DONN ADAMSON\Daily Journal Sports Editor OTTUMWA, IA - The Indian Hills Warriors wanted their No. 2 ranking back after losing it this past week, and it meant having to defeat the Mineral Area Cardinals who had just been elevated to that ranking. The Warriors came out with great intensity and a tenacious defense that kept the Cardinals at bay on the boards, both backboard and scoreboard for a 74-54 win.The Warriors outrebounded the Cardinals by a margin of 36-23 with several of their boards coming on offense for second chances at scoring. Indian Hills also spent much time at the free throw line where they were exceptionally good, going 22-25 in the second half, and 29-35 for the game. The Cardinals were only 10-16 on free throws. The Cardinals trailed by 10 at the half, but the Warriors pushed out to a much larger lead. Mineral Area closed it to within 10 points again with four and a half minutes left in the game but a three by Ashton Sauls kept the Cardinals from coming any closer.Curtis Muse led the team with 21 points, and T.J. Britton was next with seven. The Cardinals, 9-1, will have a week to figure out how to beat the Indians since they will be at home against the Warriors (8-1) on Saturday in the Rotary Classic. MAC's next game is tonight against Des Moines Area College at Indian Hills. Dec 03, 2005 - 00:09:16 CST (11/30) #2 Cards stay perfect at 9-0 with 88-74 win over Lewis & Clark. MAC used a balanced attack and solid defense to win their first MCCAC Conference game of the season over the TrailBlazers. Curtis Muse scored 14 and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the way. Willie Hassell added 14, while Darryl Butterfield & Tony Webb each scored 12. DJ Article Second-ranked Cardinals remain undefeated By JASON VIOX\Daily Journal Sports Writer PARK HILLS - The Mineral Area Cardinals had just recently been ranked as the No. 2 team in the nation. They were not prepared to lose to the Lewis and Clark Trailblazers on Wednesday. Mineral Area dominated the Trailblazers with an 88-74 victory.Lewis and Clark had a very frustrating time on the charity stripe as they made only 18 out of 40 free throws. The Cardinals had a much better showing as they were 20-28 from the free-throw line.Mineral Area's Tony Webb scored two baskets, and Darryl Butterfield added a lay-up to take a quick 6-0 lead, but David Graham quickly tied the game up with a jump shot and a pair of lay-ups. The Cardinals went on a 12-4 scoring run which included a three-pointer by Webb and Ralph Mata to regain a 18-10 edge. The Trailblazers tied the game on a 12-2 run for a 24-24 game. The Cardinals regained the lead on a 13-3 scoring spree. Willie Hassell had seven points which included a three pointer during the run. Lewis and Clark's Will Jones broke up the small run with a free throw, but Hassell answered with another triple.Jonathan Jackson drained a jump shot for Mineral Area, and Dontavis Jones added a three-point shot for their last points of the half. Alphonso Towns and Pierre Howard both added two more tallies for the Trailblazers before the end of the first half. The Cardinals were ahead 47-36.The two teams exchanged four points before Mineral Area's Curtis Muse slammed down a dunk as the building shook with cheers. Lewis and Clark retaliated with a small 8-1 scoring run for a 54-48 game. Terrance Peirson scored six of those eight points. The Cardinals racked up 12 straight points to extend their lead which included a couple of lay-ups by Steven Schauf. Howard broke up the streak with a three pointer. Webb later drained his second three-point shot of the game for a 75-55 lead.Hassell set up Butterfield for an alley oop before the Trailblazers added 10 consecutive points for an 83-72 contest. Peirson scored the first four tallies of the drive. Lewis and Clark added two points, and the Cardinals chipped in four more, which included a dunk by Tremaine Wilkerson before the end of the game.Peirson finished with a game-high 23 points. 16. Noticed Mangrum has not played in the last 3 Howe games. Does anyone know if he is injured? He had average about 32 points the prior 3 games!
  17. I know you can't address all the needs in one recruiting class but I'd like to replace most of the returners. We have seen better football before the Dickey era! I'm sorry but I am not impressed winning the Sun Belt anymore. Just my opinion
  18. What's the difference in this verbal assault to RF's? So many called for RF to be fired. George Dunham should be fired also!!! Besides, both of their play calling have been bad for years now. Just a joke!
  19. I don't see a reason to panic and blow things out of proportion. I want a New Football facility (In Denton) as bad as the next alum. I don't, however, expect the construction to commence at the expense of a needed 4-year public campus in Southern Dallas County. The city of Dallas last year purchased 202 acres in southeast Oak Cliff and deeded it to UNT for development of the proposed campus. Another 62 acres has been added through gifts and purchases. The 264-acre campus will be a significant intellectual and economic force in the region and shows the commitment to a first-class campus. Instead of bashing UNT's administrators on this issue, I commend them for their commitment to Oak Cliff, the City of Dallas, Dallas County and Ellis County and the surrounding area. As a previous poster mentioned, the lower projections are a result of the limited number of undergrad classes currently available at the UNT Systems facility. Less than 2 miles away from the UNT Dallas site is Cedar Valley Community College of the Dallas County Community College District. Paul Quinn College is also only 2 miles away. Many current Denton students, from the area, have stated that they would prefer UNT Dallas but because of the lack of classes, they choose to commute UTA's current provost and vice president for academic affairs, has stated that UTA has achieved dramatic growth in the last five years, and she doesn't see UNT Dallas as a threat. She also feels that UNT Dallas and UTA will not be a competitive situation. In fact, they are trying to find more ways to partner to accommodate student demand. They also desire partnerships with UNT and she wishes UNT Dallas well. UNT Denton, and others universities, are not new to setbacks and delays. The Texas Legislature recently failed to address a school finance bill that would have financed a new Business Admin building and dormitory. Dr Pohl had sought these funds for some time. Over the years, no individual or effort has taken place to fund a new stadium. To now blame UNT Dallas as a reason to delay a new Fouts is not fair. A Darrell Dickeyless coached team may speed the funding efforts. BTW, the 1st building (24 million) is under construction. As with a new Mean Green Village Stadium on a nice piece of prime real estate on the other side of 1-35, if you build it, the students will come.
  20. Can someone explain to me why the uproar over Ramon Flanagan? Darrell Dickey hired him 7 years ago to join his staff. I'm not sure if he has been the offensive coordinator each of those years. Anyway, I'm sure that in preparing for each game, Darrell Dickey conducts team meetings with coaches through out the week. Extensive game plans are discussed with the coaches collectively and individually. I would think that Dickey's footprints are all over the game plan and plays to be called. (During certain game situations) Each game that I have seen, DD has always had a head set on to talk to Flanagan, and others, upstairs. In a critical 3rd and long situation, I would think that Dickey knows that a draw play is coming. Since we often can't get a play off in the allotted time, I would think that Dickey has vetoed the play or had to approve the play. At the least, discussed the play. After each game, I'm sure that the coaches again gather, collectively and individually, to review game film; critiquing what worked and what didn't. As an employee of DD, I would think that Darrell feels and have felt for 6 other years that Flanagan continues to play call according to HIS game plan. Now I don't know if Flanagan is a good coordinator or not, but he continues to perform to Dickey's liking. If you want to see a change in play calling, you have to have a change in head coach. You don't get to fire the OC and keep the coach. Generally, when coaches are reassigned or terminated it is usually because of philosophical differences. This does not appear to be the case with Flanagan. If Leach at Texas Tech asked Flanagan to take over as his OC, I’m sure you would see the same offense production that you see from Tech now (40 points per game) Folks, play calling is totally on the head coach. It makes no sense for Dickey to replace Flanagan when Dickey has sanctioned the plays. (7 years now) Lastly, did anyone see that Mean Green defense this year? Offense and defense were equally pathetic in 05. I get a kick out of the PA announcer with his trademark "First Down". If he just shouted that out for each first down by our opponents this year, he would have lost his voice after each game.
  21. I've followed North Texas football recruiting for approx. 30 years now. NT averaged 10-15 kids annually listing the Mean Green. This, of course, was pre-Darrell Dickey. I don't know why he would attempt to keep this information out of the press. Why be so defensive instead of proactive in selling this program. These kids have an opportunity to play early, earn all-conference honors and set all-time school records. Since so many will return to the metroplex once their playing days are over, why not get a head start with job opportunities and connections while playing at North Texas. The gap today is so large between our players and those of CUSA, Mountain West, Big 12 and others, that those schools may rethink trying to sign someone that has committed UNT. If I'm a D1 prospect with several offers, why would I be interested in this program? (When no others kids appear to be interested) Perception is everything to the kids, parents, coaches and friends. This practice, if true, is stupid and may deter the signing of others. I would rather build on the momentum of a top pledge by spreading this information (unofficially) to all other kids. A review of the actually signing classes (Under Dickey) will validate the fact that we are doing a horrible job in the metroplex. The marginal area players that actually show up on tour roster (from the metroplex) actually walk on. If we are going to put an undisciplined team on the field, with brushes with the law and/or academic concerns, we should at least recruit better athletes of this type.
  22. Rowlett High teacher collapses, dies 05:35 PM CST on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 By MARGARITA MARTIN-HIDALGO / The Dallas Morning News A teacher collapsed at Rowlett High School on Wednesday morning and died later at Lake Pointe Medical Center. Two students found Sandra Reaves-Blackmon, chairwoman of the school’s business and career technology department, shortly after 8:30 a.m. on a classroom floor, said Steve Knagg, the Garland school district’s director of communications. A school nurse tried to revive her with a defibrillator but couldn’t, Mr. Knagg said. Paramedics who went to the school, at 4700 Kirby Road, also tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the 51-year-old teacher, said principal Marlene Hammerle. Dr. Hammerle said Ms. Reaves-Blackmon, who had taught at the school since it opened in 1996, was a great teacher and loved by her colleagues. She was the wife of the school’s head basketball coach, Stan Blackmon. Stan's son, Stan Jr, was All-Conference at Arkansas Little-Rock a few years ago and his daughters stared for the National Champions Lady Bears last year.
