RIP UNT.
I refuse to believe this.
What do I do with my degree from a now defunct university?
If only we would have moved to the WAC when we had the chance.
Down the corridor of years... I cant finish.

Once again, if we want to be grouped in with the big boys, we have to have the same mentality. IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO MONEY!
If moving to the WAC brings in more PROFIT than staying in the SBC, then you have to highly consider moving to that conference. This has to be considered at it's current state as well as future state.
If staying in the Belt brings in more money than moving to the WAC, we should stay right where we are.
I assume that weighing these pro's & con's is what this consultant we brought on is going to do.

Im sorry forever. You cannot compare the schools listed to UNT and the reason being because usually they play an SBC in the home opener and everyone is so excited about the game that they dont care who they play. And secondly (specifically UT) seats are harder to come by there so getting in to see a game, any game, is something that a fan desires. I can also say that when UT plays against a SBC team the tickets are all of a sudden given away and easier to get. Your argument doesn't work.
And to those that say to get students to come to the games it's all about winning...why didn't it work during the seasons we won the SBC championships? Why is our attendance higher now than it was then? Why is our attendance higher when we play named opponents? Because when I ask students and my fraternity brothers why they dont go to the games their response is overwhelmingly because the teams we play suck. The layman's definition of suck is an opponent they haven't heard of.
I can't believe that you people are arguing that the SBC is somehow superior to the WAC.
There is too much rule breaking going on in this thread. Please, can you people make your points with a simple "Yes" or "No"? I don't think it was too much of Lifer to ask...

Best way for UNT to "get noticed" and earn respect is to keep doing what it is doing...getting better.
I think off the field, you're right. On the field, we don't need to keep doing what we're doing... we need a 180o turnaround. Once we begin winning consistently (as we did in the early 2000's) then the rest of the great things we're doing, or committed to doing, in the athletic dept. will augment the product on the field/court and UNT will begin getting more attention both locally & nationally.
You can't have one without the other and expect great things. Good football and no committment to bettering the facilities has already been done, and it failed. Adding great facilities has already begun, but the football product is not where it needs to be. If the guys can get it to click this year, there should be lots of excitement for next year and beyond.
We need University leadership that is committed to winning (AD), great facilities, and winners. I believe we have 21/2 of these. Once we have all 3, our SEC invitation is only a few years away!

Even though the poll option is now working, I like the way the old-school polls have gone lately.
Answer "YES" or "NO" to the following 2 questions about Manute Bol:
1. Was Manute Bol one of the top 10 shot blockers you've ever seen in a Washington Bullets uniform?
2. Would ya?

Throwback Jerseys to the opening of Fouts in 1952.

Darius Carey...With quarterbacks that can throw deep, look for him to have alot more running room on the screens...
Yes.

I know I would! First, I'd smother myself with brown mustard and relish. I'd be so delicious!
It's a simple question doctor. If the moon were made of spare ribs, would you eat it? Just say yes and we'll move on.

It also is depending on the age of the fans/when they started following the rivalry I think. I knew UT fans that hated A&M far worse, but most of these were people that started following Texas when A&M was dominating in the mid to late 80's to mid 90's. Now things have turned the other way, so folks that started following in the late 90's have only seen A&M win a couple of times or so.
Same deal with Auburn/Alabama and Alabama/Tennessee really. Depending on the generation of fan - some Bama fans hate the Vols worse while others can't stand to lose to the Tigers.
Just listen to their fight songs (UT & A&M). All they do is diss each other.
Like CMJ said, right now the rivalry between UT & OU is hot, but not too long ago it was not so much.

It is if you want AIDS. Just sayin.
If you want AIDS, you deserve to move down to I-AA.

Why doesn't the SBC explore expansion? Kick out the non-football members, require all Universities to participate in all sports, send an invite to LaTech & NMSU, set up a conference championship game and pursue a TV deal for it.
Ooops! Looks like UNT is out then. No baseball.

We will not be voted "into" CUSA. Why would UH, SMU, Rice, UTEP want another TX team? For more competition for recruits?
This is what your AD, President, & Chancellor are for. I think our AD has some friends in CUSA. I think our interim pres. has some friends in CUSA. I don't think our chancellor has any friends.

We can either be in a conference surrounded by Fresno, Nevada, and Hawaii or be surround by ULL, ULM, FIU. It's a stepping stone people. We stay in the WAC for a few years and hope we get picked up by a better conference in the next realignment.
Folks, believe it or not, just like with the big boys... It's about money. If UNT gets an invite to another conference, it will need to be for more money. If that cannot happen, then we will stay where we are and be just fine.
If an invitation to the WAC/CUSA guarantees UNT $1 or $10mil more in profit over staying in the Belt, then the WAC/CUSA is where UNT will go. If the WAC/CUSA cannot guarantee UNT more money, we need to stay where we're at.
It's fun to prognosticate and dream of this or that conference ad nauseum, but in the end, it boils down to the Benjamins... just like it does for Texas/OU/et al.

Sorry to see Mitchell go! Maybe after some seasoning, she'll return to her alma-mater one day.

You cut the Red Wire! Whew! Catastrophe averted...
Welcome to the board TennesseeBoyintheRockies. We like to keep the football board strictly football related (well, conference realignment related between the spring game and fall practice). Thanks for your viewpoint on BYU. Hey, if you like to talk politics & religion and other fun stuff, try the "Everyone deserves pie" forum!

Oh boy... In the first shocker of the tourney:
Spain 0
Switzerland 1
This should serve as a wake up call for Spain. Maybe?

Not only did he think Utah was in the WAC, he thinks Crown Royal is Royal Crown....Read the bottom paragraph....
"Yes another Gator being stupid. This one speeding at 2 a.m. with two bottles of Royal Crown in his car."

It never gets old. Oh wait, the anti-dodge comments on every thread got old two years ago. He either wins this year or he's gone. That's the fact. So how many of you are now cheering for our failure next season just to get him out of here?
That sounds like an excellent Poll question.
-
That scenario seems very unlikely. Michigan and Georgia at the top of their conferences!? Had you said Florida and Ohio State however...
It all depends on what the pre-season polls say. Say Texas starts out ranked #5 and 3 teams ahead of them lose one game during the year, then Texas will be #2 and play for a NC. That's all that matters. The SOS in the big twelveten is still strong enough to keep the computer scores high.

I have never been a fan of the Wing. It looks like a poor attempt to make the stadium different and interesting. Does anyone know if there will be a section of the stadium with seats rather than bleachers? Any plans to have color to the bleachers rather than plain old silver?
I think the Club level is going to have seats. I would love green bleachers, but painting bleachers every single year would probably cost alot of money.

Good idea guys. Lets view someone's honest question as an opportunity to trash a kid who felt it was in his best interest to pursue a degree rather than a football career. Got to love GMG in the offseason.
Tread lightly here...
What's wrong with a degree from the University of North Texas?
Surely he didn't come to UNT to make sure he's a first round draft pick? So he chose UNT to play a little football and get an excellent education for FREE! Then, he left. Open season.

I heard he guided his intramural team to 3rd place down at A&M. He set a bunch of offensive records, but his defense was coached by a 12 year old girl with a concussion.

I understand that your comment is pointing out that the stadium will be too small.
However, I see this as a positive. If UNT can generate enough buzz (via winning) that the new stadium sells out constantly, then RV and the rest of the AD staff will be in a position to begin charging more, or dare I say...charging students to come to the games. That would generate more revenue and get us started on expanding the stadium!
UT/A&M charge $100's for "all sports" passes. If UNT can build enough excitement around campus, I don't think students would scoff at paying $50 - $100 for an "all sports" pass. Maybe I'm off though.
What do those of you who are students think?
If the product on the field were good enough to consistently sell out a 30K seat stadium, would you pay $100 for an "all sports" pass (you're basically paying for football and getting all other sports for free)?
