I believe Army is busy reworking their future schedules, and the AAC is busy running the numbers by ESPN. Losing SMU in favor of Army, might just make the AAC a stronger and more valuable conference. We will see.

Maybe I just view the portal different from most. It seems many view the portal as a place to go find replacement players when you lose some to graduation or transfer. I just don't see it that way. If there is a guy in the portal that is an upgrade over what we currently have, then go get him. We have more to offer than Texas State.
As for our defensive struggles... our defense wasn't that great under Littrell either. It just wasn't historically bad, like Caponi's defense. Littrell tried to run a 3-3-5, but trashed it because he couldn't get enough line talent. There was no portal back then for Littrell to poach from. Caponi doesn't have that excuse. He just didn't bring in the players he needed. Nor did Caponi or Morris do their research regarding past attempts at such a defense. That's on our coaches.
I don't know if Caponi can install a 4-man front defense in a week, but even if it sputters, it would be better than watching the 3-3-5 kill any chance of a win in Ruston.

If I were Morris, I would hold back on publicly naming a starter as long as possible, just to keep LA Tech from zeroing in on stopping Rogers. Desperate times call for desperate measures. We need any advantage we can get at this point.

LETS GO COACH!!!!
Now let's do something about that 3-3-5...
The only positive thing we can do with the 3-3-5 is stop running it.

Morris must be using these home jerseys to tell LA Tech that UNT is about to make "The Joe" our house.

This seems to be a good decision by Morris. Based on what Rogers did against FIU, he deserves it.

I don't want to consider what the score against LA Tech might end up being.
But I will predict this..... Our offense could beat LA Tech, but our defense won't let us.

I think there are some difficult questions to be asked. Since there are no questions from the audience and the softball nature of the moderators (do you write in cursive or block ?) questions I don’t know if we learn anything but it’s our only opportunity.
By the way, I watched on TV, and I think I watched every play. I don’t recall seeing Eric Morris once on the sideline. I saw the FIU coach over and over. Is this a style thing with the TV guys or was he really not on the sideline ?
Im really disappointed in my team.
I noticed the same thing. I just thought that maybe (like many of us on this board) ESPN thought nobody was in charge on our sideline.

Realignment is not over.
So, who looks more attractive?
Texas State? Rice? UTSA? Oh, or North Texas?Fortunately for us, realignment has almost nothing to do with performance.

Is this defense statistically as bad as those Mendoza defenses under Teflon Todd?
I'm too scared to check. But I have suspensions.

"The Mean Green woke up this morning ranked dead last in the country with an average of 598.5 yards allowed per game.
That’s 33 yards more than any other team in the country."
This is bad. Very bad.
Through our first 2 games, our defense is giving up 52 points per game. In another thread I noted that is even worse than the old Mendoza defenses under Dodge. Coponi's 3-3-5 has to go. We can't run it. Either we don't have the players, or we don't have the coaching. It doesn't matter. We can't run it.

Sorry, it is a turnaround. We had no 69' Camaro with Seth, we had a base Buick with NO frills.
The program was stagnant under Seth, everyone could see it. We were losing our best players to the portal and needed to rebuild regardless of any coach this season.
Morris may not be the answer, but the Program was in worse shape than anyone with NT officially would admit....as we have seen!!
Sure we have a '69 Camaro. It's not a solid matching numbers museum quality Camaro, but even with all the Bondo, no AC, & blown head gaskets, it still has value & potential. Being a university of 45K+ in DFW is an advantage most others just can't replicate. We just don't take advantage of it. For comparison, LA Tech is a '73 Pinto with a nice paint job, that actually runs well. But even so, Ruston is never going to have the resell value we have.
Now I do agree... Seth had to go. And in my opinion, UNT held on to him for too long.

Everything old is new again...
It doesn't have to be. Mendoza kept his job long after most realized he couldn't get it done. Our leadership doesn't have to continue to tolerate failure. While Morris is too expensive to drop kick after only two games, Caponi is very expendable.

vs New Mexico = loss 30-62
vs UNT = loss 16-58

The point is, it takes time for a program turnaround....
The difference is.... we didn't need a turnaround.
It's like taking a '69 Camero in to have a 396 installed, but when you pick it up, the mechanic took your 302 out and replaced it with a 289 from a mustang. The sh!t don't fit and it ain't what you asked for. You'd fire that mechanic, right?
Our program didn't need a complete rebuild. We just needed an upgrade. Now, we are in a rebuild, because our coaching discissions have been awful. Morris screwed up. It's really that simple.

It was, but Morris wasn't here at the time most of the portal recruiting actually happened. If you wanted us to make an impact this year, then SL should have been let go earlier so the new coach could 1) defend our guys from getting recruited, and 2) recruited other players actually in the portal.
Now that is about the only slack I am willing to cut EM. The rest of the complaints, such as staff make up, scheme selection, game planning, in game adjustment, etc? Those all have some (to a lot of) validity.
And many of us on this board wanted Littrell gone long before the end of last season. The timing of Littrell's firing is on Wren and Smatresk.

I had my doubts in the off-season. And, from what I've read, I think you did too.
While we were signing an army of WR's, I wondered why there wasn't more of an emphasis on the defensive side of the ball (which is where Seth had most of hie issues). The portal was there for us. We can't bring in new players to fit the scheme now. Why were these issues not addressed over the summer? And, why should fans give Morris/Caponi a pass for not doing their jobs?

How is everyone on this board going to react when ACU beats us? Let’s see we would be 0-4, wait until the end of a 0-12 season to fire EM. Because if we don’t beat ACU we will be 0-12. How does this SH*T happen, we go from bad to worse, can’t even just stay bad. Bad hire, admit it and go forward, cut our loses literally and financially.
If nothing is done to correct our issues and we lose to LT and ACU, then we will almost certainly go 0-12. If that is the situation, then Morris won't be the only firing that needs to occur. I just can't see it coming to that.

A lot of lead changes and man did Rogers look great. Am I the only one who enjoyed the football game outside of the result? La Tech game should be similarly competitive. I’m thinking we rattle off the next 4.
I see nothing positive about losing a shootout against a team that we should have been able to run up the score on. If we play like this against LA Tech, we will get run out of Ruston, and ACU might just beat us too. If things aren't addressed quickly, we are starring down the real possibility of a 1 or 2 win season.

If you can I want people to go to this video and imagine they are speaking of a head coach and coaching staff until about minute 11:25. Where do we go from here? I think if this is year 2, starting off like this you have to fire him. The QB waffling is disturbingly idiotic. So many shortcomings of this team can be directly attributed to the coaching. I don’t even fault them for the poor tackling. Everything but the pure effort on the field is coaching. And now with the transfer portal first year coaches shouldn’t get as much leeway when it comes to not having to talent on par with the middle of their conference. We can’t fire him after year one. But his job and the AD’s job should be open come mid/late September 2024 next year if they come out remotely looking like they have these first 2 games.I've calmed down since last night, but it doesn't change the fact that changes need to be made. I agree with Brune's take on our problems, but not his opinion that we should accept that Morris is here for at least two seasons. Just because the administration may keep him, doesn't mean the fans will be willing to keep him. I guess we will find out after LA Tech when ACU comes to DATCU.
If I'm Jared, Morris would be in my office first thing Monday morning with a plan to correct this mess that they can sell to our fan base. And I'd make it very clear that Caponi would be coaching for his job in Ruston next Saturday. Under those terms, we will see how strongly he believes in that 3-3-5 defense, or if he can come up with something better.

Yeah, in the North East. I am sure Drexel is a big story in Philly.
We already tried this, under Chancellor Hurley. All the "culture" problems we have with Denton, HS coaches, alumni giving, local media, etc come directly from that. Once we didn't take footballs seriously everyone looked down on us.
This is very true. But in my opinion, continuing to prop up our current failures, will only further cement that narrative.

How many AAC titles does SMU's football program have?
I see no reason why Army couldn't come in and outpreform what SMU accomplished on the football field as an AAC member.
