I think a lot about Billy Gillespie's first year at UT-El Paso.  The program won a pathetic 6 total games by the end of the season.  But it was one of the most incredible things I've ever felt.  You just knew they were going to be good.  I had never felt so much pride for a 6 win team.  Remember when Grant started coaching in Denton and you could tell the team would run through brick walls for him? That's what I saw with Billy, even though the Ws were not adding up.

His next four years were incredible, both in EP and College Station.

It's okay to look past the wins and losses (in year 1) and see signs of improvement (or disaster).  If you are tired of moral victories, I get it.  But let others be fans, and try to see things objectively.

On the other side of the coin, I remember watching Benford ball in Denton.  It was only year 1 but that was the gross-est 12 win season I've ever seen.  I know it was going to be a train wreck.

    Gillespie's team had a defense.

I won't look past the wins and losses since our team played for the conference title last year, and brought back a lot of that talent.

I don't think you get it. I was tired of moral victories two years before Littrell was fired. I want wins.

Nothing Caponi has done to fix our defense is working. Sure, we have other issues like starting slow, but no problem is bigger or more crippling than our defensive struggles. That is on Caponi. And, Caponi being our DC is on Morris.

Morris has proven to be a brilliant offensive mind. He was smart to get Rogers. Rogers is an outstanding QB, and he understands how to run the system. But we need a real defense to complement our high-powered offense. Morris has to do better job of finding the right guy to run the defensive side of the ball and let him get the players we need. (instead of signing a billion WR's). Littrell had a similar problem, and we all know how that played out.

We've improved every game. The vitriol from the first few games on this forum was so dumb. Just tell me I was right. We're getting better every week. Can't say that under Littrell.

3-5. We're still losing. Improvement is measured in the win/loss column.

  3. Once again, Texas Football has declared the North Texas and utsa the best rivalry in Texas....

In just a decade, North Texas and UTSA has become one of the most competitive rivalries in the state with the game deciding conference titles, unbeaten seasons and resulting in coaches firings

Is it really a loss when we pulled the offer and his next best choice is ULM? Feels more like a “we made space for someone else” situation rather than a “loss”.

I really want to agree with you, but since we took Chandler Rogers from ULM, I can't knock the level of talent ULM has been able to lure. And to be honest, like every other defense in the FBS, ULM's defense is better than ours. I don't feel like we are in a position to turn our nose up at the talent any other defense wants to recruit.

This was coming for a while. Before we start yelling at the kid for not following through with his commitment. North Texas pulled his offer after his OV.

At a time when many on here are very unhappy about how our defense is preforming and being mismanaged, this is unwelcomed news. Coach O and coach Caponi (or whoever will be running the defense next season) needs to go out and find a legit impact player to replace this loss. Portal, juco, high school.... I don't care. We need immediate help on the defensive side of the ball.

If we put it on the ballot again today, we might see the same results. I think many students are tired of having so many extra fees added to their education.

I disagree. If the students were that burned out on paying the extra money, they'd attend college somewhere else, instead of continuing to set enrollment records at UNT every year.

That sounds “too professional” for how we like to do things outside of academics and building contruction at UNT.  And what you are talking about is a small team with a director at the head with final say so.  I definitely wish they would do that and maybe employ the College of Visual Arts and Design as creative resources.  Let students in those degree programs brainstorm and bring in ideas that are reformed to fit the overall branding, color scheme vision.

That sounds good in theory, but you should probably go look at the art those students are making first. The contemporary art world is probably not the best resource for what we are wanting. Advertising (how our uniforms, signage, logos, & brands can generate and hold attention), is more in line with our goals. Of course that also takes an artistic eye.

I think that would be in the realm of an assistant AD if we don’t have a Director of Brand Marketing.  I think outside the sports program we have someone doing that.  But that person doesn’t seem to have the authority of the sports teams.   And they probably should have that authority, in my opinion of what we have seen over the years back at the FBS level.

The black helmets should NEVER be worn without the black jerseys.  And they only should be worn twice a year max.

A real administrator in charge of this issue would have a professional design a unique yet aesthetically pleasing combination of uniforms at all work together with a single unifying reflection on North Texas. Basically, it wouldn't matter how the team patched them together, because every possible combination would look sharp. And remember, colors exist in relation to other colors, so the uniforms would have to hold up to being videoed and photographed against green fields too.

I agree, at the end of the season. This started by some posters during the Cal game and that is ridiculous.

Yes, but in fairness, we looked a lot worse in the first two games of the season too. And, we were told by Morris at the AAC media days how this team was ready to compete for the title. Of course fans are going blow up. Even Morris has conceded that he made mistakes with how he was running the program.

Now that over half the season has been played, there's no point in making changes right now. It's only logical to wait until the end of the season to evaluate and make changes.

The fire Morris, etc talk should have never even started. Just stupid.

Our defense came up with some big plays today, but still can't consistently hold up against the run, and is still ranked among the worst in the FBS. That's all on Caponi. In my opinion, Caponi's body of work should absolutely be evaluated at the end of this season. Just like we want to get the best players, we need to go find the best coaches.

  11. Very proud of the second half effort. If we can learn to do that in the 1st half too, we will be a really good AAC team. The rest of our schedule doesn't look as bleak after this performance.

But, the receivers have to learn to sit in the zones and let Chandler deliver the ball. Those passes weren't behind them. They were in the open spots in the zone. And, while the defense can come up with big plays, they still can't consistently stop the run.
