  1. I'm happy for Aune and wish him the best. Anytime a UNT QB gets a shot at the NFL, I'm going to support him. I hope he makes a team and has a long successful NFL career. If he does it will certainly be a massive indictment on Littrell's ability to develop QB's, because if Aune makes it in the NFL, he probably should have been way more productive at UNT.

North Texas was the only team not afforded two losses in the tournament.  A double-elimination tournament should be that way for all teams.

I don't mind the format. Everyone knew what they had to do. We just didn't hit well enough to get it done (and hitting plagued UNT all season). Having stated that.... the umps deserve the RBI for MT's winning run in the 12th inning. C-USA is bush-league and I'm glad we are leaving for the AAC.

Poor officiating prevented us from winning in spite of our weaknesses, right?

Who is ignoring the team's failings?

We reached the championship game, along the way beating the 1 seed and overcoming deficits, in spite of our batting weakness.  Is that not successful?

What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

All of these questions must be answered.

Poor officiating deprived us of the opportunity to earn the victory beyond the 12th inning. But, if this team wasn't so weak at the plate, it never would have come down to a horribly blown call in the 12th inning. Just like the regular season title wouldn't have come down to having to beat MTSU in the last game of the season.

Who's ignoring the team's failings? Those that want to proclaim this season successful just because we lost the regular season title by just one game, and the championship by just one run.

This team was "built to win trophies". That's not my declaration, but the official word from our softball program. With the production we returned from the 2022 Regional team, we should have been much better, and actually won trophies. This team started the season ranked..... So in light of what this team should have accomplished.... this season was not successful.

No -1s from me, but I can tell you it's not always a disagreement with the point.  Whoever did this could be fuming about the officiating, and is not interested in talking about any of the team's weaknesses.

But it was our team's weaknesses that prevented us from overcoming the poor officiating. I'm no fan of ignoring our team's failings and pretending like this season was a success.

Careful, what you wish for; I am sure Gamble, Simon and several of the pitchers will get plenty of contacts wanting them to move to another team.

First, I didn't give you the down vote. I have no interest in those players leaving. But, the contributions of others should be evaluated. This team hit .290 last season when they excelled at the Stillwater Regional. This year, their average dropped almost 50 points down to .242. They got that nice new batting facility a few years back, so it isn't like they're lacking a solid hitting facility. Do we need a new hitting coach?

I like her, but when your main claim to fame is your Homerun hitting, and you go almost a month without one down the stretch, it is hard to say she should have been POY.

It's hard to hit homeruns when they won't pitch to her. Gamble has collected quite a few walks in conference play this season.

  7. The Umps screwed us by not calling out that runner at second, which led to MT's first run. The game may not have even gone into extra innings if that dude would have made the right call. BUT... our regular season never should have come down to needing a sweep against MTSU.

Where is this team? I miss their hunger and aggression. I want to this team again next week.

We need to sweep and have Charlotte win 2 of 3!

Yup. I don't think either Charlotte or UAB can pull a sweep against each other next weekend. But it's going to go down to the wire to see who gets the regular season title. If UNT can play mistake free ball against MT, I like our chances.

This is another regular season title that will be heading to the AAC.

Both were money from what I am hearing. Shorter had been getting offers early. Nixon has a son so I think thats why he wanted to go see what money was out there.

Thanks. I guess college athletics is now officially a professional endeavor. I wonder if UNT and us fans will up our game and pay for the talent it takes to win in this new age of college football.

  10. Last night UNT beat FAU by a score of 2-1 in 8 Innings. Simon had a monster game. She hit a homerun in the top of the 8th to give UNT the lead, and then snagged an incredible line drive in the bottom of the 8th to get our 3rd out and secure the win. If she doesn't make that catch, FAU's runner on 1st may have scored and tied the game up. Just an incredible night for Simon. Smith also had a good night. She provided the other half of the scoring hitting a homerun earlier in the game. Petters had another solid outing and got the win.

Here is the article about the game.

Simon Lifts Softball to Victory - University of North Texas Athletics (meangreensports.com)

This is the quote most of us have been waiting to hear from this team......

"Tonight's win meant everything for us," Simon said. "We've had our struggles this season but last week we talked about not waiting until the conference tournament to play with urgency. We came into today's game with the mindset that we can't be beat, and we will do whatever it takes to win."

COLUMBIA, Mo. – UNT softball fell 5-0 to Missouri on Sunday at Mizzou Softball Stadium.

“This weekend was a tough series against a good SEC program,” head coach Rodney DeLong said. “I thought our pitchers threw really well and gave us a chance in every game. This series was scheduled to make us better, win or lose. We’re looking forward to a big series next weekend at FAU.”

North Texas (26-19) was held scoreless despite runners reaching base in five of seven innings. The Mean Green suffered its second shutout to the Tigers (28-20) and fifth of the season.

Starting pitcher Skylar Savage (L, 6-4) allowed three earned runs on two hits and three walks over two innings pitched.

Mackenzie Childers threw the final four innings and recorded six strikeouts. She allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks on 79 pitches, the second-most of her career.

Tatum Sparks finished 1-for-2 along with her fourth stolen base of the season. She has at least one hit in nine of her past 12 games.

Lexi Cobb and Kailey Gamble both recorded hits from the first and fourth slots in the lineup, respectively.

    UP NEXT

The Mean Green return to Conference USA play with a three-game set at Florida Atlantic beginning on Friday. The game will be streamed live on CUSA.tv with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
