This is a football forum and you reference two apparel companies and the creator ok Nike. Ummmm ... OK.
I'd argue Under Armor is rewriting the rules on branding (if that's what you want to call it) as they are a leading company in sports performance apparel. Not bad for a company that isn't even 20 years old.
I think you and I have different ideas on what branding is and is not.
exactly...that's the point....I used the shoe company analogy to debunk both of your ("you can't out brand something" & "brand equity" ) statements.
We are selling a product/brand here at UNT...college football is a business. To help sell our product...we need to do a better job.
At this point (four years into their football program) USTA is the Nike/Under Armor...whatever (fill-in the blank business)...and doing a better job than us...
I have to admit...that I am little envious of UTSA's vision, efforts & commitment in regards to athletics.

Keep in mind that a brand is an intangible asset therefore it is very difficult to gauge whether UTSA or UNT has a better brand. Given that UNT has been around for more then 100 years and UTSA has only been around since 1969, it's pretty easy to draw the conclusion that NT has more "brand equity" then UTSA.
I'm pretty sure we still out impress or imprint UTSA in other areas then just football.
this is the football forum...
Adidas ($14Billion) founded 1920's and Nike ($23Billion) founded 1970's...so what?
please ask Phil Knight how to out-brand the competition? He beat them...at their game...at most every level....including "branding"
-
LOL! You don't out "brand" somebody.

Who the hell cares?
we all should...
UTSA...in their first four years of football have...out played, out coached, out recruited, out scheduled, out branded and out marketed NT.
Roadrunners are working hard to hit the next step (AAC) and we're standing still in our horn striped pants.

I'm glad they lost--again. Crybabies, the whole of them, from their president to their coach to their whiny-ass fans. They should be playing in the MWC within ten years, Mark my words...
preach it brother untjim1995....the baylor faithful certainly have won the B12 lifetime acheivement "crybaby award".

More truth there than you thought?.
I kid...
awesome....you absolutely got it 90! ...ha!

Lastly - ECU's all white uni look is the sharpest scene I have ever seen them in. Very nice. Even nicer than Boise's all white which is a sharp look too.
GMG
agreed....ECU away uniforms looked way clean.
whenever I see our goofy horn striped pants....I keep thinking...who the heck picks out this stuff ....Kaptain Kangaroo?

much bigger focus on athletics/football & better sports branding

I'm certainly not crying that Baylor lost.
With A&M gone....Baylor is my new favorite B12 team to root against.

if it's about better football...
BYU & Boise State

You make your own luck.
couldn't agree more...
I said it last year...we are not entitled to anything. Until we string 8 to 10 decent seasons together and upset a couple of schools along the way...then...maybe.

nice win for Marshall...
I applaud their pants.

1995-BBA in Finance
Lots of 2000+ graduates listed here--shockingly, that coincides with the folks who pay attention to UNT sports. Winning in the early 00's in football, and winning in hoops between 2007-2011 actually made a few fans that want to keep following the alma mater!!
The I-AA fiasco literally lost us two decades worth of fans...
I like untjim1995's name & post

most all of us sell a product or service....I don't care what you do and long as you 1) have a job & 2) it's legal
-
imagine that...for the playoffs...Oregon going back to a more traditional look with their school's initial on their helmet

Maybe TCU's admin and coaching staff is crying too, but Baylor's whining is about to feel up the Brazos...I still cannot believe they hired a PR firm to sell their candidacy to the media and committee. Maybe Ken Starr should sue the PR group for not getting the job done?
best answer..."this"...so funny and so true.

all good points.13 people having to agree on something often leads to compromise, and Ohio St. is the perfect compromise selection. They destroyed a so/so Wisconsin team that was ranked in their title game, which gives the committee the perfect out.
There is only one member on that committee who isn't associated with a P5 school. No one wants TCU in because they just made the move up 3 years ago. Consciously or subconsciously, this is a HUGE factor working against them with 12 of the 13 committee members.
Both Baylor and TCU are also hurt by religious affiliation and the fact that there is not a clear cut champion of the Big 12. Every little thing matters.
Ohio St. is a P5 blue blood, has a huge following that will travel 50k strong to a playoff game, no matter where that game is played, and, very simply, makes life easier for the selection committee.
I think you see them jump both TCU and Baylor for the final spot.
Ohio State is the easier choice...bigger fan base that travels well. I drove by the TCU game yesterday and it was not even close to being sold out. I kept thinking wow...it's their last home game of the season, it's perfect weather and they're ranked #3 in THE NATION!
-
I hate this format . Should be 5 Confernce champs & 3 at large IMO
agree...8 would be ideal...but at least now D1 football has a plus-one playoff-championship...much better than the past
-
I think Ohio State gets in....big convincing win in a championship game against a ranked opponent...
plus...it would put the "TCU or Baylor" debate to bed.
The B12 screwed TCU & Baylor by not having a championship or tie braker game. I didn't like it when the PAC10 & BIG10 didn't have to play one and now B12. If you're in a big bad Power 5 conference...then you should have to...the other 4 are.
we'll see...I am pulling for TCU.
"One True Champion" *or 2
that's "one" funny slogan now....everyone gets a blue ribbon

The Big 12 wants teams from the ACC, the Big 12 can have any mid major it wants at any time.
this...

my top 4-6
1. ULL
2. Texas State
3. New Mexico State
4. Arkansas Sate

"craphole"...the place 90 likes to mix his game drinks.
Criticizing other schools & their football program makes you/us sound like fools. In the late 80's...North Texas great...QB Scott Davis called out Kansas State which...at the time...had the longest losing streak in the nation.
Well...check the records of where KSU went after 1989 vs where NT went.
90...mix your drink & enjoy the game.

not a fan of maroon or A&M...but I thought these were pretty cool throwbacks...well done...they committed to one year...they even replicated a 1939 stiched up leather-head helmet...

David Nelson - University of Florida
caught TD pass vs Oklahoma in the National Championship game...and as a Buffalo Bill kissed his Dallas Cowboy cheerleader girlfriend.
(In Denton...I watched him play/lose in the Rider vs Aledo deep in the playoffs...It was hands down the best highschool game that I have personally watched.)
JT Barrett - The "undisputed" Ohio State University
Enrolled as OSU freshman in spring of his HS senior year. Replaced injured QB Braxton Miller in 2014. Leads OSU to #5-6 in the nation...until he too is hurt...you know the rest...
fun tread...
