  1. So you are upset they have ignored your designs. You've proven this by backing up your statements with nothing but opinions. This has nothing to do with perception or economics. I'm not defending a lesser logo, again, your opinion, just glad they put our logo on the helmet.

Oh, and a no to all your other questions/statements/smart assed remarks about me. I am just an alum and lifelong fan that likes this logo and the original stylized eagle and am glad North Texas is off our helmets. Scrappy sure seems to be popular representing an eagle. I do not want a mascot that is a green version of WKU's.

take it easy my fellow green brother....I come in peace. We're having a debate about "our school" and "sports" which we both want to be better...that's it. I apologize about upsetting you. At some point...it would be nice to split a tailgate mean green peace beer or coke with you & UNTFan23. I would really prefer to be friendly with most everyone on this forum. (Queen90 will be with the team for pregame...so we'll leave her out)

To answer your thoughts above....I don't feel that my designs were ignored...I think they inspired our black "alternates" and may inspire other decision makers later on...really...just throwing ideas on the table

and Scrappy...I love Scrappy! skid row Scrappy...buff Scrappy...we all love Scrappy...I just don't see Jerry & Steven putting Rowdy on the Cowboy's helmet anytime soon.

    • don't over design things if something simple works better...schools have multiple logos to use as needed..."Texas doesn't put their Longhorn on their baseball helmets & caps".
    • we need an additional NT mark for some of the sports merchandise...to break it up a bit..
    • it is about economics & perception....because we're selling a product

  2. I love the diving eagle, looks very collegiate to me in the way that the mustang, longhorn, razorback, etc are. Keep it for 50 years.

agree...the longhorn, razorback and mustang are all terrific marks...but our eagle looks unbalanced & mechanical....plus we want to go by the MEAN GREEN.

...North Texas is better suited for the interlocked letters...ie North Carolina's NC, Notre Dame's ND or

    Texas Tech's double T

  3. Big "meh" from you because your designs/suggestions eere not used? I like our helmets.

I didn't design the letterman's logo...it's just an appropriate look for any university with an athletic program...that's it.

I never said kill the bird...I just think...NT & Mean Green are better and that we seriously need to add an "additional logo" for sports...it's about perception & economics. You have to look like a big boy university to be one...

I don't know why you're defending a lesser logo for our school...maybe you work for the post office, were on the design committee that approved it or received a degree from the University of Phoenix...whatever...

    jus saying...we could do better.

  4. Hated by some. Big MEH from most. I was in the later group. It has grown on me and I think a lot of others.

big meh from most kinda says a lot...unfortunately...we missed the mark with the bird/word logo...

we were denied our chance to be "Texas State " however many years ago...so the N & T makes more sense, has more history, ties the old with the new and looks more collegiant. We're lucky that NT is symmetrical, unique and looks great. Too bad we chose to look more postal and on-line college...huge opportunity for the next batch of decision makers or AD.

for now we'll just have to settle for being the "meh green"

  5. ...agree we'll never be 1) a trendy Oregon or 2) a traditional Texas

so...what these concepts are supposed convey is a traditional "updated" look...that tastefully combines old school & new school...

IMO "we're doing it wrong"....we could save money and still get 2 or 3 different looks with

    2 plain pants (1) white (1) black

    3 jerseys (1) green (1) white (1) black

1 helmet (1) a traditional looking helmet with the NT letterman's logo that ties the old with the new...this logo would stay on the helmet and not change year to year or month to month. (ala Texas A&M or Texas Tech)

  6. I think this would look great and I'm a big fan of the new age look too! This actually does relate to QB play and all other positions actually. Today's youth want to play somewhere they have nice things to wear, where they play on national tv and in front of their family and friends. If it wasn't a big deal then why is almost every university doing it! Believe it or not but Oregon's program used to be one of the worse football teams in the country. Fast forward 6-8 years later with all the Nike support and they are ranked #2 in the country right now!! Many top kids from Texas go all the way to Oregon to play ball!

Not saying we have to be Oregon but lets not kid ourselves, they are doing something right! We all saw how excited our guys were last year when they introduced the black jerseys for the Rice game!! They came out excited, played with enthusiasm, and kicked some Owl tail! The uniforms are for the kids. We recruit top kids and sell them on why its fun and exciting to play at NT. With their help they can make a difference in Mean Green football and they will look good doing it! Like the videos this year that showed each of the new recruits with a NT jersey on with their name on it! It's not the most important thing but it's a piece of the winning puzzle or formula!

    totally agree...we can do better.

  7. Why are you gals so sensitive?

more liked miffed on why Queen90 reads & comments on every uni post...

I have been reading Queen90's "big man" post for over two years and I keep asking myself "what went wrong with this dude...was he picked on as a kid...is he a frustrated old dumb jock...did his family not love him enough?"

yes...like it or not...uniforms matter...they're part of the equation. I'm sure that Queen90 and most all other old dudes would at least agree that the Marines have some of the best uniforms in our military. That's not a fluke...it's by design....that uniform helps in the recruiting young people...it gives those young men & women pride when they wear it...and tells the rest of us...they're no joke...the U.S. Marines are for real.

  8. Next thing you know they will be talking about uniform design and color scheme.

    F'n girls.

the all powerful Queen90 has spoken...she loves to flex....she loves to puff her chest and she loves to criticize uniform threads...yet she reads and comments on "every single one"....

  9. I think we just enjoy the realization that there's no conspiracy, rather if we do somehting worth writing about, they'll write about it.

this...we need a steady dose of more wins over more years...

I bought a Fort Worth Star Telegram today...nice 1/4 page article...unfortunately no photos...I kinda thought with TCU off yesterday we may get a photo...I thought wrong.

  10. I'm sure you'd be a popular guy with our soccer team if that's your opinion regarding our "other" sports.

oh god...I guess you weren't done...Saint UNTFan23...our very own "soccer guy & other sports" Martyr...

hey...I love sports and so does most every other sports crazed fanatic on this sports obsessed board...but the reality of college athletics is that "football" drives the train and does the heavy lifting. It's "football" that funds and carries the rest of the other sports...

  11. Just trying to prove that you can be nationally known for football AND be good at other non-revenue sports. P5 schools do all the time. There are even G5 schools out there that do it if you look hard enough. There's no need to sacrifice our non-revenue sports just so we can host a mid-level P5 school for a home football game.

    ...are you done? really...girls volleyball?

big focus needs to be on "football"...if the football improves...then the school and it's "other" sports improve...yes even your beloved volleyball...

  12. Boise is good in other sports as well. They've won more conference tournament championships, have more NCAA bids, and have been the regular season champs in Men's basketball more than North Texas and a lot of that was before they were good in Football. They don't pour all their resources into one sport.

I doubt FB and MBB are the only sports they have had success and I bet they had that success before they were known for being good in FB.

like I said....start winning in football to gain national attention

jus saying...we're not on here this morning all fired up about UTSA's other sports....or Boise States...

  13. There is a cost with paying teams like Zona to come into your house for a home game. Take a look at last year's CUSA standings for all sports. The only other sport where UTSA didn't finish in the bottom half was Women's Volleyball. UTSA doesn't appear to put as much emphasis on non-revenue sports like North Texas does. We could do the same thing here but at the same time we might not have the winning tradition like we do with Women's Soccer (no losing seasons in the history of the program).

    Softball

    NT - 5th (31-22)

    UTSA - 9th (24-30)

    Women's Soccer - West Division

    NT - 2nd (14-7-1)

    UTSA - 6th (5-12-2)

    Volleyball

    NT - 5th (17-15)

    UTSA - 1st (24-8)

    why should they?

UTSA focused on the right sport to gain the most attention for their school...ie Boise State.

I commend them on their efforts...there are lessons to be learned from the likes of Boise State, UTSA, USF, UCF....start winning in football.

  14. In theory, you are correct. Until the AAC or MWC comes knocking on utsa's door when they string together a couple of good seasons.

I get it....it is a reality...they have a big tv market, destination city & appear to have a very good handle on the importance of strong football program in their first 3-4 years. I wish we would have put a little more fuel on the football fire in the 80's...

IMO...you can't be scared of losing them to MWC or AAC...we need to amp up our own volume...get more wins...garner more attention and respect for NT...who knows...maybe we both get a shot to move up a notch...

In the end...you want teams in your conference that appeal to others...stronger is better.

let's start with a win Saturday over SMU...
