  1. I never said it guarantees you to be good with lesser talent if you run the spread. I simply said that you can run a spread with lesser talent and win. You cannot run a pro style offense with lesser talent and win. That is a fact.
  2. I also attended the same scrimmage Withers did and the "mock game" Here are my observations. Derek Thompson is the same guy he has been the past 2 yrs. He has not gotten any better from what I can tell. He still has the same issues he has had since he walked on campus. His accuracy is terrible and I dont think he threw a spiral the entire time. His footwork in the pocket was still sloppy with lots of back foot throws. He still had problems making reads that were not already predetermined and he still stares down his recievers like he has in the past. DT struggled in both the scrimmage and mock game to complete a pass. The mock game was against scouts who are mainly freshman and walkons. Judging by his performances he should not be the starter IMO. McNulty looks about like he did in the spring. He isnt very gifted as a quarterback especially in the arm strength and accuracy department. He is just average from what i saw and is nothing really special but is an ok backup qb. Brock Berglund played the best of all the qbs and really stood out. He has a quick release and a very strong arm with a tight spiral. He made most of his plays outside the pocket and you can tell that is where he is comfortable. His style of play is much different from anyone else we have in the fact that he is an improvisor which has its pluses and minuses but from what i saw it was more good than bad. He is definatly the fastest of the qbs and the most explosive in the run game. If this offense was molded around his strengths our chances at a bowl game would be much greater. Dajon Williams has lots of natural talent and is a smooth athlete. He has a whipping type throwing motion but the ball seems to come out with some velocity and accuracy. He is definatly not ready from what i could tell to play in a real game but in a few years in the weightroom and on the practice field he could turn out to be a very solid player. These are the official stats from the second scrimmage.... Derek Thompson- 7-18 57yds 39% 0td 0int Andrew McNulty- 7-14 41yds 50% 0td 0int Brock Berglund- 7-8 124yds 88% 1td 0int Dajon Williams- 7-15 52yds 47% 1td 1int
  3. To be successful running a pro style system you have to have better players than your opponent. It is a mano y mano style of play. Spread systems allow teams with lesser talent to be successful by controlling the tempo and utilizing players in space. Until we have better players than everyone else we wont consistently win running a prostyle offense.
  4. Why would you vote someone a captain if you are unsure if they will be starting at their position the entire year? I would hate to have a captain on the bench because he doesn't perform. The players vote on it and they obviously don't trust DT or he would have been voted captain again.
  5. Yea I heard that pick that DT under threw by 10 yds was called too.
  6. The problem is that he has his head situated so far up DTs a** all u can see is his feet.
  7. I said I believe that he is related to him OR personally knows him, which judging off the what he has said there is a good chance its one or the other.
  8. We were up by 7 after the pick six. We lost the game by 1 point. The momentum was totally on our side as we were up by 14 with 12 to go. The pick six not only gave them 7 pts it gave WKU life. If we would have punted and gave them a long field there is a good chance we would have won the game considering at that point they had scored 10 pts on our d in over 3 quarters.
  9. You sure do seem to know an awful lot about DT. Much more than the average fan, including how much time it takes him to get to the bus and how bad he felt after the WKU game. You are far from an unbiased truthful poster which leads me to believe that you in some way shape or form you either personally know him or are related to him. For you to blame receivers for quitting on their routes shows that you know little to nothing about football. Nobody quits on their route and if they do thats a major coaching issue because the player should not be playing. If there is a problem it would be the player ran the wrong route, got jammed or collisioned off their route, or ran their route to deep or short. WKU scored 18 pts on our defense and that is not good enough? They turned WKU over 3 times thats not good enough? The bottom line is we were up by 14 with 12 to go and he threw a telegraphed pass in the flat and the safety from WKU jumped the route and scored. After that play we lost any trust we had in DT (which was very little to start with) and tried to unsuccessfully run out the clock. Nobody cares how bad he felt or if they asked him to lose weight or how much everyone likes him, that isnt going to win us any games. All we want is wins.
  10. First off nobody “quits” on their route. To use that as an excuse is crazy. DTs receivers last year were significantly better than the year before, but his stats were drastically worse. I guess the receiver quit on the route at WKU when he threw a pick six that lost us the game. If this guy was the leader that you make him out to be he would get the receivers on the same page by any means necessary. All I saw him do was come off the field yelling at his receivers but not trying to correct the problem. Blaming his poor performances on others is nothing more than childish. He and everyone else on here needs to own up to the fact that he was very bad last year. For us to go to a bowl game he is going to have to make major changes to his game other than losing ten pounds. He needs to be focusing on getting better at throwing which at this point in his career will be a tall task considering some of the horrible habits that he has accumulated over the last couple years.
  11. Huh? If DT starts we and McCarney are in a load of trouble. His ability to make multiple reads is on a preschool level. You will see guys in high school go through their progressions better. And I don't see the improvement. Watch the scrimmage video. He throws a number of ducks including one pick and another that should have been a gift wrapped pick six to Whitfield, and still has extremely sloppy footwork. The improvement is a myth from what I've seen.
  12. Yep...be shocked if Berglund isn't the starter.
  13. Me as well. Have some holes to fill on defense and hopefully the staff can find some solutions/depth this spring.
  14. I think Power catching routes was the only one who did position drills, correct? Don't believe Fortenberry did, but may have missed the others.
  15. It's not allowed in principle at the combine but not strictly or over-enforced like at UNT today. You'll see a max of 3 reps knocked off at the combine, not 10+ like there were in some cases today.
  16. I know Vito is reporting what he was told, but those 40 times are not accurate. I know that Power (4.8) and Fortenberry (5.5) were informed that they ran faster. Those times also were slow as multiple other watches had Power in the high 4.6's to mid 4.7's and Fortenberry in the 5.3 range. Another thing to consider on the bench reps- nearly everyone had reps knocked off due to not locking out all the way (which is allowed at the combine). The scout with the "official results"- an old man from the Titans who had a walker- was nitpicky and bent over backwards to sully the numbers.
  17. Agree on the play calling. With the exception of Chancellor, if you look at the stats, that's how I would want it to look every game- in terms of who got the ball.
  18. I think he means style, not caliber. We returned most starters on offense and have regressed. That's why everyone is scratching their heads.
  19. If by handful, you mean nine guys who have started, then yeah. I look at that and it makes me feel worse. 2 of our 3 best blockers, our best outside WR, 2 DL where we have very little size or depth, and a very good punter who's pretty important if we're going to continue to sit on the ball and play field position with people.
  20. Yes. He is handcuffed and doesn't deserve the blame he's getting. Too many chefs in the kitchen and easy to see this isn't a true Canales offense if you look at other stops in his career and his previous time at UNT.
  21. The fact he was dressed out would imply it wouldn't be more than a few weeks. I sure hope so...he and Y'Barbo are our two best run blockers IMO, and that's not a slight at our OL. The whole unit is very good. GMG
  22. We were averaging 190 yards rushing going into this game and then run for 56 on 30 carries tonight against FAU with Power out. I don't think that FAU would do anything different than what Troy or K-State would do, especially with less talent and from watching it, we missed his blocking on the edge. I know Mac said in his press conference earlier in the week the tight ends were a big part in the run game and this proves it. GMG
  23. We are much improved with Coach Skladany, the talent is better, and our guys have gotten noticeably bigger/stronger with another year in Wintrich's system. GMG
