  1. I know my post came off a bit strong, but I meant no disrespect. I do completely disagree though. How are we seeing the same things still? If I recall, last year was our first season with more than 3 wins in quite some time, no? Had we gone 2-10 last year and if we were 1-7 so far this year, I could understand the more of the same argument. But we aren't. This isn't the same. We were a win away from bowl eligibility last year. We looked respectable at LSU and KState, which is a lot more than could be said under any Dodge team (of course I'm excluding the KState near-win from 2010, because Dodgeypoo wasn't coach at the time, and KState wasn't nearly as good as they are this year). The culture is slowly changing. There's a new stadium, a new walkway. These may seem superficial, but trust me, the idiots of my generation and the even dumber kids of future ones eat that shit up. We're all frustrated to some degree, whether we're experiencing this for the first time or for the 30th. It sucks for all of us. And I understand the apprehension that one has after years of empty promises and lackluster results on the field. But, you guys can't let that skew your vision of the present. Despite the struggles, this is a changed team heading in the right direction. For fun's sake, let's assume we go 4-8 this year. That's 9 wins in 2 seasons. 9-15 doesn't look pretty, no, but it looks a lot better than 6-37 does, which was Dodge's record here, to state the obvious. But, even speculation aside, let's look at the W/L % of Dodge vs that of Mac's through last weeks game. Dodge - 6-37 - .139 McCarney - 8-12 - .400 Point proven. And this is with Dodge's leftovers. Give the man some time to recruit his own players his own way, with a new stadium and new conference to use as pitches, and you'll see the end result you want. If he can do it with Iowa State, he can do it here.
  2. You and the football team both, apparently...
  3. I don't know the details, all I heard is that he's graduating and won't be returning. Could be his decision, could be someone else's...
  4. I was reading it as sarcasm, I sure hope he wasn't serious lol.
  5. I'm aware. But with Chancellor out, giving the ball to our best offensive weapon 20-25 times per game wouldn't hurt.
  6. If this is the case, then maybe we have some hope for that. With him in, we stand no chance. They've thrown all over everyone this year, and our pass D is...well, it's bad. But if he's out then that game is suddenly a lot more winnable. Obviously, a player doesn't make a team, but losing a top notch QB more than just hurts a team.
  7. I'll join. We suck. It could be much worse, but we suck. At least we should beat South Bama next week and we'll all be happy before going on the road to get castrated the last 2 games.
  8. According to ESPN, junior LB Will Wright has thrown 2 passes. It's a mixup of the numbers obviously, but maybe we should take ESPN's advice. It's clear that none of our quarterbacks can play quarterback, so f*ck it, let's go crazy, confuse the shit out of stAte's coaches and players, and run the wildcat with Will Wright at the helm.
  9. *note: as of this post, a slightly delayed ESPN box score that I'm unfortunately being forced to watch since KNTU keeps having a stroke currently has Jimmerson leading the team in carries with 7 to Brown's 3 and Byrd's 4, so perhaps what I am about to ask is actually already being solved.* Serious question: Does anyone know of any possible LEGITIMATE reason for why Jimmerson is still playing 2nd fiddle to Byrd, and is actually splitting that role with Brown? Seriously, the stats don't lie, he's our best back. There is no doubt of that. Byrd is steady and reliable, Brown might be shiftier and faster, but Jimmerson is legitimately our best option at RB. I don't think anyone here would refute that after the way he's played over the last few games, especially against ULL. I'm an outsider obviously. If anyone can think of a legitimate reason for why Jimmerson would still be getting 2nd back treatment at this point, I would be eager to hear it. I just know that we've all seen Byrd get stuffed all year long (YPC under 4 is really, really, really not good), and we've seen Jimmerson be a big play threat while being a steady, reliable back, all year long, yet Byrd keeps getting the nod early and often. I don't get it, and I know I've seen others complain of the same thing. So, yeah, anyone?
  10. Don't know how someone downvoted you, I legit laughed for probably only the second time ever from something on this site. Okay, maybe like eighth time, but still.
  11. I just can't wait to get out of the Sun Belt. Logic in any sense never applies to any team in this conference. Explain ULM this year, WKU last year, Troy barely beating us, losing to FAU, and then almost winning at Tennessee, MTSU losing to an FCS team and then beating Georgia Tech, etc. etc. etc.... Simply put, somewhere, for some reason, there is someone with a voodoo doll of each Belt team, and they love screwing with the fans of each and every one of the teams in some way.
  12. How'd you know that I have a runny rose right now? You must be watching me....I'm scared....
  13. Perhaps because this is the one legitimate practice that we have to try these things out in an in-game scenario?
  14. Honestly, just shut up. Just please, shut the hell up. You sound like a 11 year old girl who didn't get the pony she wanted for her birthday. I'm going to go ahead and assume that yes, the AD staff, you know...people hired for such a role with a background and education in such a role...do in fact know more about promotions and such than I do. I'm also going to assume that Mac has a plan, and that Todge had one as well. I don't see the point you're making there...every coach has a plan, but not all coaches have a good plan. I also don't see the point you're making about the cupboard being bare again. Just because a shitty coach inherited a bad team with a bare cupboard, and then also left said team years later with a bare cupboard (remember the "shitty" part of his title), doesn't mean that EVERY coach will do this. Seriously, this is the single stupidest, most worthless post I've seen on this site in my few months here. Mac won more games in less than 2 years than Dodge did in 43 games. If you don't see a difference, then you have one less working eye than Mac does.
  15. Hopefully the doghouse means first half benching, because of exactly what you said.
  16. Well between that and Chancellor going down, that explains the random receivers I've never heard of getting the chance to play today.
  17. I love Mac as a coach. He's a great leader, a great inspiration to players, he gets students excited, etc. And we also need to look at what he did at ISU back when he was coach there. These things take time. Canales needs to go, now. Mac needs to bring someone in who understands how to call the type of offense that we are trying to execute, because Canales is clearly clueless. I'm confident that we're on the way up. But, we also have to keep in mind that he's playing with Dodge players, save for freshman and sophomores. In 3 years, if we still suck, I will be the first to call for Mac's head. What he's done with Dodge players is remarkable considering what Dodge did with Dodge players. We've won more games under Mac in a year and a half than Dodge did in 43 games. I'm still on board with Mac 100%.
  18. Hey guys look at that, that 2nd and 7 we did a play action TE screen to the flat again, AND IT DIDN'T WORK AGAIN.
  19. I know that these things don't help. And I didn't say Thompson was the only issue. In fact, this topic isn't even about him Are you high? Yes it does. Play calling causes us to go 3 and out when we run it up the middle 3 straight plays. Play calling prevents anyone from having a chance when you call the same plays that MTSU watched on tape 100 times before the game. No, I assume Canales is the playcaller. If he isn't and it's McCarney, then strip Mac of those duties stat and give them to Canales. I don't care about who Canales thinks should be on the field. I care that he calls worse plays than a blind grandmother could. I agree. Hence why I didn't pin it on one player. This is a topic about our awful play calling. UNT90, I know you and I have had disagreements before. But you and I are 100% on the same page with this one. Every thought you just posted has been in my head as well. Except I'll be crying into my pizza in my dorm room instead of in my beer at the union.
  20. Seriously, this is our biggest issue. The only reason we won last week was because ULaLa's DC must have had his head up his ass. Want to stop the Mean Green? Stack 8 in the box. Go man coverage. Have one safety stay deep. Watch the TE and RB screen. Done. Seriously, I like a power running-based offense. I really do. But you can't CALL THE SAME PLAYS MULTIPLE TIMES PER GAME EVERY GAME. That just will NOT work. Seriously, we run it up the middle almost every first down, and if we don't, we run an end around. I would place good money that we run up the middle 70% of first downs, and then 15% end arounds, 15% everything else, be it any other kind of run and every kind of pass play. This is why it never works. Especially when we keep throwing Byrd out there for it. He's average 3.8 YPC...I like the guy, he isn't a feature back. So, stack 8 in the box. That stops our run game. Oh, now we need to throw it? Let's run it again anyways. Or, if we don't, let's throw a TE screen in the flat to Power or Miller. Or, have the line blow coverage and pretend it's a jailbreak only to flip it out to the back for a screen. But wait...these plays don't work the week after YOU USE THEM SUCCESSFULLY MULTIPLE TIMES EACH. Seriously, we ran the same screen plays probably about 3-5 times each last game, the TE and JimJim ones. Finally, have one safety deep for when we decide once out of every 5 plays to throw it 55 yards downfield. Because apparently, our passing playbook only consists of screens, slants, flat routes, and streaks. Throw in the fact that Thompson sucks at throwing, reading defenses, and just about every other QB trait, and we don't stand a chance. The defense today is a different story. They've sucked, but that's not a usual issue so I'm not getting into it.
  21. That's what I figured. Too bad, it actually did answer a lot of questions I had been seeing pop up in the basketball forums. If anyone is an insider, here is the link: http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8555940/north-texas Also, if you get ESPN Magazine, you can get ESPN insider for free (that's how I get it), so if you get it, and didn't know that..now you do. If you were hoping for a fast paced offense under Benford, it seems as if you'll be in luck, as he mentions a few times how he likes the players he inherited because they fit the fast pace he likes to run. Praise for Mitchell is obviously there, but unlike most articles it actually goes in depth about other players as well (even mentions returning experienced size in Niko....). Blue Ribbon previews provide a quick graded analysis at the end as well. This is done on a typical grading scale (A, B, C, D, F) with +'s and -'s (A-, C+). There is no distinction between lower level conference teams and higher ones; if a team sucks, they're going to get an F...if they're great, they'll get an A, regardless of the conference. The 4 things they grade upon are Backcourt, Bench/Depth, Frontcourt, and Intangibles. In no particular order (but exactly the order you'd hope it'd be), we received grades of A, A, A+, A-. Is it November 9 yet?
  22. ESPN finally released the insider-only Blue Ribbon Preview for the Sun Belt conference teams. As this is insider only, I'm not going to bother linking to it. However, once I get confirmation that it's okay, I'll copy/paste the entire thing here. So, anyone in the know, is it allowed for me to do so? If it wasn't an insider thing, I wouldn't bother asking. But I feel like legally Blue Ribbon and/or ESPN could have something to say about it to me, and this site, if I were to just post the entire thing here. But, if I'm told by Harry or someone else that for sure knows if it's okay or not, that it is indeed okay to do, I'll post the whole thing here for all to see.
  23. One thing: Why is it that anytime TM is advertised somewhere that mentions him averaging a double double, they refer to him as the ONLY freshman to do so last year? Um.....there was this dude, with a certain ugly eyebrow problem....I think he went to some school in the backwoods ironically enough? Rumor has it he's moved south to New Orleans? Oh yeah, that's right, Anthony Davis from Kentucky...number one overall pick; he averaged a double double as well. I don't want to place false blame anywhere, but I'm pretty sure that it was our athletic dept's marketing team who continually overlooked that one.
