Now if we can get OSU& WSU this would be a great outcome for UNT.

What other schools would be on our radar besides OSU & Wsu?

Would be awesomeness! This would be twice the AAC we have now. East West championship would be amazing. GMG

If the AAC can get WSU and OSU we would be the premier G5, in good shape to add some MWC teams. If the MWC should get WSU and OSU, they could surpass us by adding MWC teams in the future. We are very fortunate to have teams in the middle of the country in major cities.

Who cares SMU is leaving, it will be an advantage for UNT. I would take WSU and OSU over SMU and if we are to add some MWC schools down the road that is a much better conference then when we first got in!

I don't know why OSU and WSU would not join the MWC instead of the AAC.The difference in revenue is not that much and travel expenses would eat up the difference. One problem is that sense the MWC is paying Boise more money than the rest of the conference I would assume that the PAC 2 would want at least that. The MWV could tell Boise they were going to cut their share back to the rest of the conference in 2025 and go to a performance based bonus program and get everyone , including the PAC 2, on the same page.
As with the Pac12, to expand your brand you need to get off the west coast time zone. With the Pac gone away (less product) and with the AAC being coast to coast we should be able to get more $$$.

I believe this could be a great outcome, if we are able to add OSU and WSU. Then raid the MWC! GMG

While I am absolutely worried about the opportunity cost of letting the MWC have them... do you really want a coast to coast conference? Clearly it is the hot fad right now. however, I am not so sure it really adds all that much in terms of tv value in the future and it definitely adds cost in terms of travel and in terms of student-athlete time. AND I am worried it will reduce the already tenuous identity finding of the AAC completely. Cohesive identity vs lack of identity is pretty much why the sun belt managed to catch up to (and now overtake) C-USA and why so many schools left, not just for the AAC. I think many of those that now came to the AAC could have developed much faster and way beyond what they have become now, had they been in a more cohesive conference. i hope the AAC will become that for UNT. But I am not sure adding the west coast really facilitates it. Also, just because the B1G and B12 now are trying to do the 16+ conference memebrs thing, i am not sure they will fare so much better at it in the end than the WAC, where strife eventually left half the programs behind, and I think this could easily also happen to a 16+ member AAC.
But...as I said, i am worried about the opportunity cost of letting the MWC have them (even though I can see bobs point above on them really being good G5s that had lucked out too).
To expand the brand of the AAC and UNT coast to coast would be a huge plus. You would be able to have games the whole day in the different time zones. TV will have one less option for eyes with the PAC gone. I’m sure our commish has discussed this with the the TV ( maybe streaming) powers to be and it should be a plus for more $$$!

Central time zone is a big deal if you want to establish your school brand! I hope they come to the AAC, and maybe next year we go and get a few MWC schools. We then have a coast to coast conference!

LB’s, young and undersized is going to be tough! Surprised Maz hasn’t be moved to MLB position?

How do you have 1 team on the east coast on the expanded PAC ? Stanford presents the same problem for the ACC. The logistics is going to be very expensive.
-
Do we really think Stanford is going to play UTSA, u of Tulsa or even our own UNT? This would destroy their brand. They get in the ACC or go independent. Does FSU or Clemson really want to play SMU? You can put money in the conference but what does it do to the other schools brands?

If you’re an athlete from the west coast, why sign to play for Stanford or Cal? I imagine there will be outliers, but by and large you want to play closer to family. I would think these schools better start shelling out huge sums to recruits or they won’t be able to compete with ACC schools once their current rosters graduate.
Stanford, a very high international reputation, very hard to get in, very strong alumni, and alot of NIL dollars.

I agree. But SMU isn’t stupid, theybwill want a clause to protect them if FSU and Clemson bail on them or whatnot. Also it appears to me the ACC and Big 16 have shut their doors.
I don’t think that will matter. They just need to have P5 next to their name. USC and UCLA leaving the PAC didn’t bother them. WSU and OSU are running deficits, they would need the AAC with the bigger payout than the MWC. Just read an article Stanford and Ca to the ACC. They must be a package, because Ca, offers little from a sports standpoint.
-
I’m starting to think the best case may be Stanford and SMU going to the ACC for free. AAC takes WSU and OSU with an eye on MWC. That would leave only the MWC to compete against the AAC in the west. We could easily offer coast to coast conference.

If the AAC disappears, that will take product off the market. This should allow the news PAAC to negotiate a stronger contract. I just don’t know how you form a new conference without a media commit!
-
This is my biggest concern is how much weight does SMU have with organizing the next conference? The AAC commish saw us as a plus even with SMU. I hope that holds for the next conference.

AAC not interested in Oregon State or Washington State.
