  1. Well, the folks at Montana State were understandably disappointed when he left, mostly regretting the loss of his ties to Texas recruiting. What's amazing is that, when Vito published the new salaries for head football coach and assistants, that he was at the low end. I'm thinking that with Dodge getting gainful employment at Pitt, some additional money may be available, and that Gaines may get some of it. However that we do it though, I'd like for UNT to come up with enough compensation, and soon enough, that we can keep him around for a while. Any travel expenses he's incurring look like money well spent!

I'll be terribly surprised if his salary doesn't increase 50-100% in his first year on the job. It's also possible that he might have some incentives that we don't know about. He is simply too valuable to not be taken care of.

  2. Kraig Williams of the Deseret News should be fired. In a effort to be first he ran with a story that wasn't true.

It looks like the BYU beat writer was right all along, the MWC wants to see how its new line up shakes out and then if needs to add two team in a year or two.

Sort of. Williams used the words "may" and "likely" and you bit and ran with it. True, he implied that he had inside sources but if he did his "sources" didn't know what they were talking about. He couldn't lose. If he's right he's a hero because he was the first one to say it. If he's wrong then it was all his sources fault.

  3. UH is the leading choice due to a much larger TV market. Their is still some infighting in the BE with some members favoring an eastern school. TCU needs a travel partner and UH fits that bill. Combine a larger TV market, new FB stadium and rennovated BB arena, with a larger recruiting base and UH looks solid. Don't forget, USF does not want UCF in the BE.

I don't know which they'll choose because there are several factors. Houston has the larger TV market by about 600,000hh but they would have to share some of that with Rice (if only Houston teams are considered) whereas UCF has the Orlando market alone. UCF has the larger facilities; 12,000 more seats in their football stadium and a couple of thousand more in their basketball arena. South Florida also needs a travel partner and UCF would fill that bill. Florida is almost as fertile a recruiting ground as Texas with three less state schools for competition. Houston has had the stronger teams in the past but UCF won CUSA last year and has shown a lot of improvement. It's just too close to call.

However, when the Big East goes to 12 teams then I believe that whichever is not selected on the first increase will be selected on the second (assuming that TCU is still a part of the Big East).

By the way, Fort Worth is going to have to change their sobriquet from "Where the West Begins" to "Where the East Leaves Off."

  4. It would behoove you to go back and read Grand Green's post again. The truth is at the moment we are not ready to advance to either the MWC or CUSA. Many items are in place....facilities, coaching staff, soon to be increased budget, and administrative support. However, there are other things that we need to know such as what will our attendance be, will the increase in donors be enough to keep the program moving forward, will we have a winning season to validate our improved coaching staff, can we rely on continued support from our president and BOR, etc. In other words we haven't proven anything other than our student body is willing to help support the program financially and that we are willing to use sources that can help advance our cause.

I'd wager a considerable amount (for me) that both the MWC and CUSA know and understand our interest and intent. When we have proven ourselves worthy then we will be invited to either conference that has an opening.

I believe that we find ourselves in competition with primarily three others for a spot in either league. None of those three are ready to advance either. San Jose State is deficient in several categories...attendance, power rating, and to some extent facilities. Utah State still has a poor power rating, mediocre attendance and a stadium that only holds a little more than 25,000. Louisiana Tech, our foremost CUSA competitor, has money problems, as does the state of Louisiana. They, along with their UL partners, have the lowest operating budgets in the FBS. LaTech also shares a small market and they have mediocre attendance.

There remains a possibility that as many as seven more slots above us could be filled within the next year or two. If we are ready (and I firmly believe that we will be) we should receive one of them. I believe that Lane Rawlins and Chuck Neinas will see to that.

  5. Why? Most stadiums are built this way.

Maybe I've just sat down low a lot lately but I remember the Cotton Bowl and Texas Stadium as having entrances at or near the top accessible from the entrance. Some stadiums have escalators to get you to the higher reaches.

At Fouts you maybe had to climb 15 rows or so if your seats were near the press box but the upper tier at the new stadium seems to be twice as high to the top.

My wife has had both knees replaced recently and can't make that kind of climb so I'll have to go for the lower seats with less climbing.

  6. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Chris-Henderson-116817

As far as I know this is the Chris Henderson that was in the 2009 recruiting class from Dallas Carter. He signed with Texas A&M but I don't think that he ever played for them. It could be that he didn't qualify so he went the JC route.

    http://www.tvcc.edu/athletics/football/pdf/2010%20TVCC%20ROSTER.pdf

Here is the roster for the 2010 Trinity Valley CC team with Chris Henderson of Dallas Carter listed.

The last posting and information that I found for Chris Henderson on Scout was dated in 2008. Apparently they never updated.

  7. Would like to see Chris Henderson as well. As the Rivals site shows OU & A&M I doubt OU takes four DT's and would be a lttle surprised A&M takes two JUCO DT's but it is possible wih only 18 commits at this point. Scout has a Chris Henderson out of Dallas Carter at Coffeyville KS JC 6'4" 300lb DE but no Chris Henderson from Trinity Valley, which is odd. ESPN had Chris Henderson from Dallas Carter as a 2009 commit to A&M but he was listed at 6'1" 245. Will the real Chris Henderson please stand up? (And be a UNT Eagle!)

  8. Here's my list with the anticipation that we will sign a full class of 25: (current committments in bold)

    QB:

    Brent Osborn

    Cooper Jones

    Andrew McNulty

I don't anticipate us signing any more QB's with McNulty being given a shot by this coaching staff. Unless a top recruit comes available, I think we are set here.

    RB:

    Zach Whitfield

    Done

    WR

    Marcus Smith

Two more high school players. I would prefer Cameron Brown from Frisco Liberty, Rivals Link, or Greg Thurmond from West Mesquite, Rivals Link

    TE

    Andrew Power

One high school recruit. My pick would be Justin Breshears from Aledo, Rivals Link.

    OL

    Emeka Okafor

    Grant Shaw

One high school recruit, preferably Stouffer from Highland Park, Rivals Link, or Dylan Laurens from Duncan, OK, Rivals Link.

    DT

    Micah Thompson

    Alex Lincoln

I would prefer a JUCO, but would settle for one more HS signee if they offer the best upside. My HS picks would be Brodrick Lee, Tarpon Springs, FL, Rivals Link, or Danny Edwards from Aledo, Rivals Link. I still hold out hope for Jewel Christian, JUCO, although his coach says he is going to UAB, Rivals Link and my dream would be Chris Henderson from Trinity Valley, Rivals Link

    DE

    Daryl Mason

    Austin Orr

One more HS signee that is hopefully Whitney Richardson, Rivals Link, or Michael Amaefula from Arlington Bowie, Rivals Link, although Scout has him up to 240 lbs.

    LB

    Derek Akunne

    Michael Stojkovic

One more HS commit, preferably Trey Brown, Rivals Link.

    DB

    Kendrick Ruben; Safety

    Jamone Greer; CB

    Kerry Swarn; Safety

One more HS commit for cornerback preferably Lloyd Carrington, Rivals Link.

I really like your list except please no more tight ends (we have six) or defensive ends (eight of those). Save at least a couple for JUCO defensive tackles.

  9. I would like to see two junior college defensive tackles who graduate in May and enroll at North Texas for summer school. By doing this they can hit the weight room and get comfortable with the coaching staff before two-a-day practices start in August.

Even the (good) May graduates are scarce. There are some quality defensive tackles that may be available and we can hope that we get a couple.

    Xavier Bryant - Kilgore 6-1,295

Jewel Christian - Southwest Mississippi 6-2,290

Rod Davis - Fort Scott 6-2,300

    Tony Gillespie - Independence 6-2,315

Chris Henderson - Trinity Valley 6-2,295

    Aaron Wallace - Independence 6-1,320

How many of these want to play FBS football is anybody's guess. This is a pretty talented group, not exceptionally tall but that's about all they lack. Any two or three of the above would really help.

  10. And 4 consecutive New Orleans Bowl trips ... :thumbsu:

    GO MEAN GREEN !!!

Did you realize that in those four consecutive New Orleans Bowl trips that he won exactly two against conference foes with winning records...an 8-3 Muts team that started the streak and a 7-5 New Mexico State team. Furthermore, if Troy and Florida Atlantic had been conference members when we lost to them during that period none of it would've happened. Worse yet, the first trip was with a losing record.

  11. Dominique Johnson's 3 pointer at the end of the first half should have led the broadcast. I watched Channel 8 sports primarily because I thought it would be on there, and no mention of us at all.

His amazing shot was on Channel 11 along with about 30 seconds of highlight film. At the end the newscaster commented about how well North Texas was doing and the sportscaster (Bill Jones?) repeated about the 17 home game winning streak.

  12. I have seen the stairs behind the lower tiers but are they the only access to the upper tier?

Is there some sort of stairs, ramp, or escalator from the concession area to the upper reaches of the largest tier? I can't believe that you would have to go around to the landing behind the lower tier and climb 30-40 rows to your seats.

  13. SUMG,

Where will the parking be? Will there be any difference between Priority Parking at the $250 level compared to the $500 level? Or are they waiting to see how many people join before they decide that?

Basically what I would like to know is - Could priority parking simply be parking at Fouts (across the highway)? These are the questions that I need answered before deciding on any commitment level.

By the way - if I was a restaurant in Denton (Pourhouse, Hooyah, etc..) - I would be running a party bus to and from the stadium just like they (Hooters, Hoffbrau, On The Border) do at the Mavs games from the West End. You get all the customers' business before the game and all their business after the game as well. Before the game people are pumped up and after they will drink to celebrate or drink to be sad - one thing is for sure, they will be hungry after the game. The restaurant/bar provides the parking and gets a ton of business in return. There is some free business advice for you Green Nightmare, pass it along ;)

Some of this I know and some is speculation but this is what I believe. Based on the current level of membership all Mean Green Club members (except the $125 level) will park south of I-35. The higher your level of giving, the closer you will park to the stadium.

I don't believe that priority points will have a major effect on parking, only for seat preference. However, some or all Green & White members ($250) could be squeezed out if there are more donors in membership levels above them than there are parking spaces.

Again, just guessing, but the lot color could be for a specific level of giving (or two or three could be combined). I would think that at the $250 level parking will be on a first come, first served basis. Priority points for late donors would simply be too hard to factor in. Those without parking passes must park north of I-35.

I don't know that the other factors such as shuttle bus stops, paid parking areas, remote lots, etc. have been finalized and it may be some time before that is known. I would get my donation, especially if it is to be at the Green & White level in as soon as possible to assure a parking place south of the interstate.

P.S. I am not a rep so if any of them have more current information please post.

  14. It's simple. The MWC just invites anyone located west of the Mississippi to join that is not in an AQ conference. Everyone forms their own TV network. It may even be a large enough consortium that it could become an AQ conference. If it becomes too large then we split into winter and spring divisions.

Everyone is happy because no one is left out unless they want to be. Each can be as greedy as they would like because there is no conference or NCAA money to distribute so nothing to share.
