JD, I believe that you missed a HUGE transfer.  Tre Bradford, a highly rated running back who transferred from LSU, isn't on the list.  He is a four-star athlete from Lancaster.  I believe that this is his last season of eligibility and I expect him to be the featured back this year along with Minnesota transfer Zach Evans.  Also Shipley, Chandler and Morris have been confirmed by 247 so I'd guess that the gray could be covered with green now.

  2. We used to get 7-8,000 when Bill Blakeley was the coach.  He had some very good teams but he was a show himself.  He'd grab his nose indicating the call against him stunk.  He'd also grab his tie and pull it indicating that the referee choked when he made that call.

However, back then we often had one of the several writers or the Denton Record-Chronicle beat writer at least give some publicity.  Everyone took the Dallas Morning News and/or the Denton Record-Chronicle.  Now the newspapers have become expensive and circulation has dropped.  If we stay competitive in our new conference and we can get the message to the students, Denton County residents and alumni and get them enthused.  It may be passe now but we would have pep rallies before home games on Friday before game day in front of the Student Union.

Form a spirit group and give them all a T-shirt.  On Homecoming have them paint their faces and be the lead cheer group for the cheerleaders.  Have that group try to get a friend each into the Greenbackers.  You'll need fundraisers for the T-shirts.

Give support to the spirit band at the basketball games.

Don't just sit around...let them hear you!  Just do it.

He didn't hit the portal for a sideways move without big bucks unless he wasn't going to be the starter.  Even then he'd expect some reward to move to be the starter elsewhere.

I have two other thoughts.  I'll still feel uneasy if Earle is the starter.  He was far less than stellar in his two starts here.  Especially his play against FIU.

Of the choices now I'd rather take a chance with McCollum.  He is the son of a coach and has been trained most of his life to be a quarterback.  He'll have more tools to work with here and better personnel to improve his play.

I'm still hoping that we find the experienced quarterback who has been a high three star or four star; especially if he's available for spring training.

  4. Well, it's late in the game but Kamien Salter, the Liberty quarterback who just led them to an unbeaten regular season just entered the portal.  He is now listed as a 4-star quarterback.  I see him as the best available.  I'd like to see us offer him.  He's from Cedar Hill so he could be in Denton in an hour if he's home.  It's rare that an FBS team goes unbeaten in the regular season so he must be special.

There could be a problem in that it's too late to sign him according to the chart posted.  If he's interested maybe pay his tuition and room and board from NIL money so that he can enroll and be eligible for spring training.  Then he could be signed at the spring signing date.

Kinne has swag. Kids want to play for that.

Morris has poser swag. Kids can see right through that.

0 surprise their stud back is staying put and ours (several) is leaving.

Well, we did lose two (especially) good running backs but we picked up a four star back from LSU.  I'd say that we recovered from the hurt well.

  6. How do you divide the TV coverage and revenue with one or two large conferences?

It seems that the only way for it to work is keep what we've got.  Otherwise the two biggest conferences will dominate the TV revenue, just as they do now, except even more.  If there were a way to accurately gauge TV audiences or use Nielsen TV households, each conference could get a fair share.

If he can beat out Stone Earle for the job. Earle is reversing his decision to enter the portal and coming back, so he’s got a leg up on Cash due to experience in the system

All of this is subject to change! A new QB could transfer in at literally any time

A very good quarterback hit the portal today.  His name is Braylon Braxton.  He played last year at Tulsa.  He would have to be checked out because he was injured last season and missed the last few games.  Healthy, he was rated an 88 by 247.  He's from Frisco so I believe that he would welcome an offer.  I'm thinking that he might be in decent shape now or he wouldn't have entered the transfer portal.

    My requirements:

    1.  No names on shirts.  Don't really care who you are anymore.  Just win some games.

    2.  No choice of uniform.  We are green and white with black accents.  You are our employee.  The days of choosing all black, gray or anything else than a majority green and white are done.  The dog wags the tail, not vice versa.

    3.  No more senior day for some kid that spent a year here.  If you came here, spent three or more years and have earned your degree, then go right ahead.

    4.  Not purchasing any sweatshirt/t-shirt with your name and number so you can cash in.  The days of buying and then looking up to see you playing elsewhere are over.

    5.  Done with season tickets.  I will now pick one game a year to make the trip for.  Outside of that, I will watch on television or my computer.

    6.  This is now a business agreement between you and me.  You perform as expected and you will get cheered for.  You suck and you will hear it from me.  Represent my university well in all interactions, perform to the best of your abilities on game day, stay out of trouble and be an embarrassment.  You fail on any of these and you get kicked to the curb.

    7.  I like Coach Morris and wish him well.

    8.  Time for Coach O to earn his keep.  Funny videos on Twitter don't cut it any more.  Do your job, and do it well.  Time to deliver.

I like the names on uniforms and everyone does it.

The rest of your complaints I think are valid.  I also agree with your liking Coach Morris and we will soon see if he can find a Defensive Coordinator who can keep them from the bottom of the national list of defense allowed lists.

Driving 300 miles to see our team get hammered is no fun.  I lived in Midland a couple of years and I only went to Homecomings.  I had small kids then and leant to even more problems.

  9. I think that Liberty is on a mission to show that they can play with anyone.  If they scheduled bottom-feeders and finished 12-0 they wouldn't get a single vote for the Top 25.  Their conference schedule sweep wouldn't help in most years.  They'll gain more respect by playing two or three P5s and still having a good record.  It also gives them a better bowl.

  10. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the soccer team played in the American Conference this past year.  If so, they were playing in a higher conference without the benefit of being able to recruit to the American.  They have taken 12 recruits of higher stature this year in their first year of recruiting to the AAC.  The new conference should tell if Hedlund gets enthused again or is he just burned out.  My guess is that the American Athletic Conference is just what he needed.

  11. I don't believe that we get the full payout the first year.  I'm not sure but I think that it was to be in the 3-4 million dollar range.  We had the highest CUSA payout last year at 2.5 million so this will likely be only a million more which should go to the Athletic Department.  Any overage in the football budget will likely be applied to light revenue sports.
