  1. When the American Athletic Conference assembles a week from today in Arlington, Texas, the league will have a feel like it hasn’t experienced since 2014. On July 1st, three original league members, Central Florida, Houston, and Cincinnati, officially bid the league farewell while six new teams eagerly made their arrival to the conference that has often touted itself to be the top collective among the Group of 5.

AAC Commissioner Mike Aresco will likely use his time early next week as an opportunity to boast of the accomplishments of his current league members rather than longing for what once was, because that’s what great salesmen do. Reigning conference champion Tulane will return to Texas with good vibes after recently knocking off 2022’s Heisman trophy winner in the Cotton Bowl. Conference newcomer UTSA will look to compete for a league title in year one after rolling through Conference USA the last two seasons. Florida Atlantic has high hopes that it can return to its winning ways after a familiar face reunites with the conference in Tom Herman. And while AAC media days won’t draw as many eyes as leagues like the Big 12 and Pac-12, there’s still plenty of intrigue for fans of the conference.

    More Movement to Come?

Next week, six teams will arrive early, dressed in their finest attire, eager to commence their first media days as members of the AAC. Other teams will show up, put a smile on their face, and secretly dream of greener, wealthier pastures elsewhere. Both are okay! Don’t think for a second Oklahoma State wouldn’t prefer to be joining the Sooners in the SEC next year. The eyes of Cincinnati fans were likely glued to Big 12 media days unlike ever before in Bearcat football history. Memphis, very openly, would love nothing more than to finally hear its name called by the Big 12. SMU, Tulane, and even Rice have been mentioned by national writers as potential Pac-12 candidates depending on what happens on the West Coast. Regardless of what’s to come or how each university feels about their status in the AAC, each coach and player in attendance will have their eyes on the first week of September and the chance to hoist a conference championship trophy in the 10th anniversary of the American Athletic Conference.

  2. San Diego State may not be going anywhere for the time being.

SDSU notified the Mountain West that it is going to remain in the conference, Pete Thamel of ESPN reported. This is after the school told the league of its intentions to move on, though SDSU didn’t have a new destination finalized.

The first lawsuit in what will likely be a stream of many has been filed against Northwestern in connection to alleged hazing.

An unnamed player identified as John Doe filed a lawsuit Tuesday in Cook County Court in Chicago against Pat Fitzgerald and members of the school’s leadership, according to The Associated Press.

The player alleges the team’s former head coach, university president Michael Schill, AD Derrick Gragg and the board of trustees “enabled and concealed sexual misconduct and racial discrimination,” according to the same report.

The player’s last season with the program was 2022, and he’s represented by Salvi Law Firm.

Starting to see/hear references to Mean Green Machine, Mean Green Wrecking Machine or some variation along these lines in the media...either on sports news or broadcasts.  We must defend our brand or we will lose it.  Other media types or casual fans will pick up on this and before you long, that's how everyone will refer to us.  We are the Mean Green.  No additional verbiage allowed.  This needs to be reiterated ad nauseam by our AD in media handouts, directives, communications, corrections, etc.

Amen!  You use it or lose it.

  6. A quarterback named Cash really should play for the Mean Green, shouldn’t he?

That’ll be the case soon enough, as China Spring’s Cash McCollum made his commitment to North Texas on Friday. McCollum led the Cougars to their second straight Class 4A state championship last season as a junior, in his first season in the program after transferring from Wimberley.

He passed for 3,201 yards and 37 touchdowns against 10 interceptions, while rushing for 454 yards and six touchdowns. He was the District 5-4A Div. I Offensive MVP, the Super Centex Offensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the Mr. Texas Football Award.

McCollum (6-4, 213) also held offers from Tulsa, Arkansas State and Sam Houston State, among others.

Even though I live in the Houston area I bit the bullet and bought a couple season seats for $99 each using the promotion.  If we can’t make all the games then someone can have my two seats and blue lot parking for the game.  Hopefully they give us a reason to make the trips up and w shave good weather in the fall.

Really like this idea.  Even if you can’t make all the games buy season tickets to show your support.
