DENTON, Texas – Matt Carson has been named UNT’s new Senior Associate AD for Revenue Generation & Ticket Strategy, Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker announced Tuesday.

Carson comes to North Texas following a four-year stint as Assistant AD for Ticket Sales and Operations at Colorado State. While in Fort Collins, Carson had oversight of a unit that generated more that 11 million dollars annually in football ticket and premium sales. Since his arrival in 2017, his team also increased men’s basketball season ticket revenues by 167 percent. Additionally, Colorado State posted three of the four highest football ticket revenue years in program history.

In 2021-22, the Rams set a school record with five basketball sellouts and set single-game and student attendance records in football, volleyball, and men’s basketball including a record year for men’s basketball season and single-game revenues.

His team managed service and sales for premium seating with the Ram Club including new sales, upgrades, single-game sales, and service of customer needs. Under his leadership, CSU introduced new initiatives including Kickoff Time Guarantee, flexible ticket and season options along with extended in-season payment plans.

Carson was also a member of the Colorado State senior leadership team and secondary sport administrator for track and field, women’s basketball and volleyball.

Prior to his time at CSU, Carson served as Assistant AD of Ticketing Sales and Operations at Texas State from 2014-18. During that time, he was the project manager for their ticketing system conversion, plus he supervised and trained a staff of more than 50 full-time or student workers all while helping the department gross $2.1 million in revenues in the 2017-18 calendar year.

From 2012-14, he worked in a similar capacity at Sam Houston State. While in Huntsville, he oversaw a department which generated nearly $1 million in revenue for its six ticketed sports.

A native of Alma, Arkansas, Carson is married to the former Trevlyn Trevino. He graduated from Arkansas State in 2007 and earned a master’s from Texas in 2009. After graduation, he completed internships with Texas and Wisconsin.

He was elected to the National Association of Athletic Ticket Sales & Operations (NAATSO) board in 2018 and currently serves as president for the 2022-23 year.

I like that he came from Co. State. That's an AD department that's future focused, and knows how to generate revenue.

I think folks are reading way too much into this. The move into the AAC created an opening in 2023. Most football scheduling is done 10 years in advance. Not a lot of options in 2023 which probably helped dictate this series. I always liked La Tech and personally like the series but I'm not sure there's much to debate on this one. There can't be more than 2-3 options in the openings created in 23, 24, 25 by SMU and Memphis games becoming conference games.

Why do I feel like SMU wont ever be a conference game....

I really don’t think that will happen unless big decision makers forget the lesson the decline of boxing taught them.  You can only sell false hope to the bottom half of the top 80 programs by revenue so long.  I say 80 because I believe at least half of FBS programs won’t be viable for financially to continue to compete with the new FBS.  If if schools like Stanford drop down to FCS or kill football altogether it could get really bad.   These huge schools are trying to drop conference “dead weight” schools but they hurt the middle tier programs.  If you aren’t elite but in the 2 mega conferences non-conference games are the fun games for your fans.  They don’t have the product to support pay per view without the collective taking a huge financial bath.  The Longhorns Network is basically pay per view and ESPN lost money on it.  (Even forcing it into the sports packages of people who didn’t want the channel).

Either way I am watching less over the long haul.  The year before Nebraska, Missouri, and A&M left the drama of the bad blood made me watch more.  But once they settled into the SEC & Big 10 and the matchups were no longer brand new I watched considerably less.

So much of college football is about regional rivalries. There was an article I read recently about WVU fans still pining for the days where they played Penn State and Pitt frequently. Rivalries like nebraska/OU, KU/Mizzou, and now ones like USC/Cal, the apple cup will all go away too because of this. Obviously realignment has benefitted us in getting us with Texas schools, but I dont think people will care much about a UCLA- Iowa game or Arizona State- Baylor as much as people think they will.

Heck... even Texas- Vanderbilt will get dumb after awhile

My go to is actually a 22" Weber Kettle, which (IMO) is the greatest BBQ tool ever invented.  Everyone should have one.  I have a BGE and a gasser as well.

I like to cook chicken and hamburgers on the gasser generally, because it's quick and easy.  If I have time, I use the kettle or BGE for low and slow or steaks.  I generally use the kettle because it's so versatile.  We did 2 pork butts for the 4th, and they turned out great.  It's kind of difficult to use a gas grill for smoking, and to be honest, you'll be happier with the results from a kettle or stick burner.

    Here are the butts pre-cook:

    Here's one after the cook:

    Here's a brisket from a while back:

Here's a meatloaf.  Didn't sauce this one.  Yeah, you can do these on the grill.  You won't go back to the oven.

    Another brisket...15 pound packer IIRC:

And a prime rib.  Only way to make 'em:

The above were all cooked on a 22" Weber grill.  Pizza is great on a grill as well.  Very versatile.  Enjoy your gasser though.  They're great too.

Yeah this is my first grill, so i want to get the basics down. I dont have room yet for another grill. TBH, i should've bought a smoker/ gas combo, but wanted to master things first

  5. Amidst all the political talk, I feel like I needed a topic on here that could get a lot of deep discussion.

    Question for all:

What are your go to BBQ recipes? Propane Grill? Gas? Smoker?

What are you cooking now? What are you trying to cook?

Reason for posting: I just got a propane grill and want to figure out some fun recipes to cook on there

I have decided to make a Google Map out of Mean Green-owned businesses.  Seems like an obvious gap to fill.

    LINK

...this is brand new and I need help finding all Mean Green alumni-owned businesses, including Denton! You can post here or DM me and I will add it.

@meanJewGreen are you referring to this Laundris? https://www.laundris.com/

Yep, Don Ward is Austin alum and owns it. Has gotten a lot of press recently.

I guess so. His win percentage as a college head coach was .546.

Yeah but his big failure was being 16-21 with SoFla.

Otherwise, he's been a consistent winner - 3 winning seasons at UCONN, 4 straight winning seasons at ECU and 6 straight at La Tech, including 6 straight bowl wins , all schools had rough budgets. Granted, maybe that's his niche.

  8. While this could be in another board section, I figured more folks might be able to help on the football board.

My ask: does anyone know businesses owned/operated by UNT alums in Central and South Texas?

    So far I have:

    Hula Hut

    Lamberts

A real estate agents/ insurance folks

    Austin Gourmet Popcorn

    Laundris

Could use some more help (especially around restaurants, bars, booze, etc)

Beating Arkansas on the road is bigger than any bowl game we've played in.

People put way too much importance on shitty bowl games. Sure, you want to win them, but they don't count for more than any other regular season game.

They dont count for much but there is a national audience on them and every time we've played we've S*** the bed.

  10. I just havent seen any improvement from Seth.

Look at NT's other programs- all have shown improvement... except football. Yet football is the moneymaker.

Seth is the 2nd highest paid coach in conference - he should coach like it. One good win in past 3 years- UTSA.

Skip Holtz had garbage facilities and support yet he had 5 straight winning seasons, and 6 bowl wins.

There's no innovation in the offense, no fire, no adjustments.

2 mil shouldnt get me mediocrity

I disagree strongly. Fan morale in late 2006 and late 2015 were way below where we are now. People were saying the exact same stuff when the Murphys left and recruiting was in the cellar, then Gunnell signs on and then everything is hunky dory to them again. People are very wishy washy right now and want better but we are nowhere close to black jerseygate or being force fed  Iowa City’s favorite son. Maybe you forgot what it felt like to end up with only 25 points and less than 270 total yards in a legit 7 overtime game against a team that would go 0-12. https://www.espn.com/college-football/matchup?gameId=262800249

How is morale even close to approaching that or 2015 levels of disgust?

Bro, it was so bad we stormed the field after that game
