  1. AUSTIN - The cloud of the Chris Beard controversy has now dissipated from the Texas Longhorns program after the school terminated the former head coach on Thursday, and sent an emphatic statement in the process. In replacement of Beard, the Longhorns have named Rodney Terry as the acting head coach for the remainder of the 2022-23 season. Upon the conclusion of this season, however, the Longhorns could elect to make another splash hire, much like they have done in previous years with Beard and Shaka Smart. 5) Grant McCasland - North Texas An in-state up-and-comer in the coaching game, North Texas' Grant McCasland has turned the North Texas program into arguably the best in Conference USA. In four of the past five seasons, McCasland has guided the Mean Green to 20-plus win seasons, including an NCAA tournament in 2020-21. That season, he earned the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament win in an upset of No. 4-seeded Purdue. McCasland was also one name being thrown around during the initial search for Chris Beard. 2. Ryan is selling a “significant minority equity interest” in the Dallas tax services firm to one of Wall Street’s most prominent investment firms, Ares Management Corp. The undisclosed investment amount, announced Thursday, boosts Ryan’s valuation to $2.5 billion, according to a joint statement from Ryan and Onex Corp., an earlier investor in the company. Ryan’s goal is to build a global tax brand, and it has been growing aggressively through acquisitions. This year alone, it has closed deals for Boston-area property tax consulting firm Greystone Property Tax Advisors, British-based tax reclaim specialist Catax, property tax consulting firm Marvin F. Poer and Company, historic tax credits consulting firm MacRostie Historic Advisors and Houston-based motor fuels excise tax specialist Tax Advisory Services Group. read more: https://www.dallasnews.com/business/local-companies/2022/05/26/dallas-tax-services-firm-ryan-soars-to-25-billion-valuation-with-new-investment/

Ryan Walters has seen a number of players announce their intentions to play next season elsewhere in the short time he has been head coach. After National Early Signing Day, Walters said “We will return to the recruiting trail and hit the transfer portal to put together a complete class in the spring.” A veteran quarterback could look for a fresh start in Graham Harrell’s “Air Raid” offense and would immediately be the leader in the clubhouse for the starting job. 7. North Texas fired their seven year head coach Seth Littrell earlier this month, and Phil Bennett was named the interim head coach for the bowl game. With that being said, before the game he gave one of the most hilarious and wildest responses I’ve ever seen when being asked if he thinks this will be his last game as a head coach for the Mean Green. He said: “When I remarried my wife said, ‘You can do what you want, but there will come a time when you have to come home.’ don’t know. She told me the other day that she’s going to have a man sleeping in the house next year, and if it’s going to me, I better show up. So that’s basically an ultimatum… I’m an Aggie, but I’m not stupid.” What a legend. At the end of the day, ya gotta do what ya gotta do when the wife ain’t happy. read more: https://www.whiskeyriff.com/2022/12/18/north-texas-coachs-hilarious-response-about-coaching-next-year-my-wife-said-shes-going-to-have-a-man-sleeping-in-the-house/
  8. The university hired Eric Morris as its 20th football head coach in program history Tuesday afternoon. In 2022, Morris was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Washington State University. The Cougars posted a 7-5 record this season, going 4-5 against fellow Pac-12 Conference opponents. In a statement released on Tuesday, athletic director Jared Mosley said Morris stood out among other interviewed candidates. “We are truly excited to welcome Coach Eric Morris and his family to North Texas,” Mosley said. “From early in our process Eric was able to clearly articulate his vision for UNT and what we can do in the short term to build momentum as we transition to the American Athletic Conference. Among a deep and talented pool of candidates Eric distinguished himself with his great energy and strong track record as a championship head coach and a proven developer of talent. As a Texas native, he has deep relationships across the state, and he understands the importance of connecting with campus and the local community.” Morris began his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the University of Houston in 2010 before becoming the wide receivers coach for Washington State for the 2012 season. Morris began his tenure as offensive coordinator for his alma mater Texas Tech University. From 2013 to 2017, Morris coached the likes of Patrick Mahomes, DeAndré Washington, and Jakeem Grant, who together averaged 579.5 yards a game in 2015 — good for second-best in the country that season. Morris took his first head coaching job at the University of the Incarnate Word in 2018, where he led the team to a Southland Conference championship and its first FCS playoff appearance in program history. In 2021, Morris again took the Cardinals to the FCS playoffs after winning the conference championship. read more: https://www.ntdaily.com/football-hires-eric-morris-as-new-head-coach/
  9. Frisco Bowl Boise State vs. North Texas 9:15 p.m. | ESPN Look out when Boise State is on defense, because versatile safety JL Skinner has the size to lay the wood with his 6’4” frame, but also the range to pull off highlight-reel interceptions. If he is to get a pick in this game, it could come on a pass intended for tight end Var’Keyes Gumms, who’s had a breakout freshman campaign as a contributor in the Mean Green passing game. read more: https://www.si.com/college/2022/12/14/college-football-bowls-players-to-watch-every-team
  10. The move is just another hit to a Washington State team that is already looking to fill plenty of gaps heading into Saturday’s bowl game. Earlier this month, the team lost their defensive coordinator when Brian Ward took the same position with Arizona State, lost their star linebacker when Daiyan Henley decided to opt out of the bowl game to focus on the draft, and could be without more than a dozen more players who have all entered their names into the transfer portal. We’ll have to wait and see who WSU will have available, both on the field and on the sideline, when the LA Bowl kicks off on Saturday afternoon. In the meantime, Morris is taking advantage of his opportunity and leading the Mean Green into their new era. At the same time, the Leach disciple is helping to make sure that the Pirate’s coaching tree flourishes for years to come. North Texas names Washington State OC Eric Morris as new coach North Texas has hired Washington State offensive coordinator Eric Morris as the team's new head coach, the school announced Tuesday. Eric Morris Hired as 20th Head Football Coach - University of North Texas Athletics Eric Morris has been hired as the 20th head coach in North Texas history, Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley announced Tuesday. 11. North Texas (7-6, 6-2 C-USA) vs. Boise State (9-4, 8-0 MW) Saturday, Dec. 17 Toyota Stadium - Frisco, Texas Capacity: 20,500 Kickoff: 7:15 p.m. MT Channel: ESPN Weather: High of 52, low of 33 degrees The Boise State football program looks to capture its first win in a bowl game since 2017 Saturday when the Broncos (9-4, 8-0 MW) face off with North Texas (7-6, 6-2 C-USA) in the Frisco Bowl. Boise State has earned bowl eligibility in 25-consecutive seasons, which is the third-longest streak in the nation. However, Saturday will be the Broncos' first bowl appearance since 2019, when they fell to Washington in the Las Vegas Bowl. The Broncos were invited to the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl following the 2021 season, but the game was canceled after Boise State withdrew due to an increase of COVID-19 cases within the program. In 2020, the Broncos opted to forego a bowl game following a season abbreviated by the COVID-19 pandemic. After winning seven of its final eight games of the regular season, the Broncos had their eyes set on capturing a Mountain West Championship and a trip to the LA Bowl at Sofi Stadium as the conference's top team. Boise State fell 28-16 on The Blue to Fresno State Dec. 3, giving the Bulldogs the trip to southern California. While the loss at Albertsons Stadium stings, Saturday's Frisco Bowl bout with North Texas still provides Boise State with numerous reasons to display a dominant performance against the Mean Green out of Conference USA. For one, Boise State prides itself on two goals; winning the Mountain West and winning a bowl game, something that has not happened since 2018, as noted above. Second, the Broncos can catapult their young talent into the offseason in style and send their departing seniors off with one last win. Third, there are 13 players listed on Boise State's roster from the Lone Star State, giving the Texas natives an opportunity to shine in front of family and friends at Toyota Stadium. Finally, the Frisco Bowl is likely the final time interim offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter will coach Boise State after stepping in following the loss at UTEP. Sitting at 2-2, Koetter deserves massive credit for flipping the Broncos' offense and giving redshirt freshman quarterback Taylen Green the room to thrive. "I want to leave him with a win. You know, Taylen has progressed so far, so fast. I'd love to win Taylen with something to build on going into next year," Koetter said. "Again, the sky's the limit. After the season's over, I'll give him some things I think he needs to work on in the offseason, but at that point that's just my opinion, that's somebody else's." read more: https://www.ktvb.com/article/sports/ncaa/ncaaf/boise-state-football/game-day-guide-boise-state-north-texas-frisco-bowl-saturday-dec-17/277-34e590a8-6259-4de9-a293-3bab7eabeb16
  12. Figuring you can never have too many quarterbacks, Kalen DeBoer's University of Washington recruiters on Tuesday night offered a scholarship to Washington State commit Sam Leavitt — figuring he was fair game after Cougars offensive coordinator Eric Morris earlier in the day became the North Texas head coach. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Leavitt from West Linn High School in West Linn, Oregon, is a 4-star prospect who led his team to a 12-1 record and the 6A state championship. A dual-threat quarterback, he's a 2023 recruit and considered the top offensive player in the state. read more: https://www.si.com/college/washington/recruiting/huskies-offer-wsu-qb-commit-after-cougars-oc-leaves-for-north-texas
