  1. So (according to Vito) our best, 3rd best, and 11th best players are all-conference worthy. What happened to 2nd and 4th-10th? I guess that means the centers are really bad in CUSA and the DEs are really good. We know he is good from 47; it would relieve my quarterback-induced anxiety if he could hit from 70.
  2. I will admit, looking at their game avgs for the 6 games AM started in '14 vs the 12 games DT started in '12, their stats are fairly similar. AM '14: 16.0 of 29.2 for 179.8 yds, 55.9%, 0.8 TD, 0.8 INT, 6.2 YPA, 1.5 sacks DT '12: 17.8 of 31.0 for 219.1 yds, 57.0%, 1.2 TD, 1.2 INT, 7.1 YPA, 0.5 sacks, though he did have to face LSU and KSU
  3. I still can't understand why he was written off by the staff once his turf toe healed, he played well the one drive he was in the spring game. He had a great HS resume and had to have learned something good from Gundy at OSU.
  4. A fair point. In the 3 seasons that he wasn't redshirting, he started 7 games. He has had more than 5 pass attempts in just 10 games. If we are talking meaningful in-game snaps, he has less than one season's worth. Since we love to compare him to DT so much around here, I'll add his experience going into his senior year. DT started 24 games in his first 3 seasons(not counting garbage-time plays in '09 as a season). He threw more than 5 passes in 23 games(he was injured in 2 games he started before he got to 6 passes). Looking at the level of game experience, stature, and average per game stats; I just don't see how DT (6'4" 218lbs) and AM (6'1" 209lbs) are comparable. AM will not have a DT-like season because he simply is not like DT.
  5. Antonio Brown caught 129 passes for 1698yds for the 2014 Pittsburgh Steelers while the next closest receiver caught 53 for 644yds(66 for 761yds if you count TEs, 83 for 854yds if you count RBs). This doesn't mean Big Ben is a bad qb or the others are not NFL-caliber receivers, it means that Roethlisberger prefers to throw it to Antonio.
  6. I disagree with this. Patrick Cobbs yards per carry fell in 2005 (231att for 1154yds, 5.0 avg) by 0.5yds from his 2003 rushing champ season (307att for 1608yds, 5.5avg). I'd argue that Patrick Cobbs was a better running back in 2005 but without the passing game(Hall/Smith '03) to open up the run, his rushing total diminished with the less efficient quarterbacks (Meager/Phillips '05). Yes, Jamario took some carries in '05 but his and the other RBs rushing totals combined was only 370 yds. Having Jamario should've upped Cobbs YPC. In '03, RBs Roy Bishop, Kevin Moore, and James Mitchell combined for 586yds.
  7. What else can you say about this athletic department except, at least they're not from Canada.
  8. DT moved the ball better in '11 and '12 as well. Are you saying that last year's offensive weapons were the worst we've had in Mac's entire tenure?
  9. Especially for those that sat through the last gut punch when Meager threw for 600 yards and we still lost the damn game. That made me way sicker than the 79-10 ass-whipping I attended in Norman the week before. It was the longest DART rail ride home I could ever imagine. I f'n HATE SMU.
  10. Ugh, UTEP, we punted 8 times that game. I don't know how the defense had the energy to deal with that.
  11. You were seriously worried about McNulty coming in with 1:46 left in the game down 45-21? They probably expected us to run out the clock and surely didn't have their top defense or play calls in for that series. DT completed 58% of his passes for 200yds, 1 td and 1 int against freaking UGA's defense. AM threw for 200yds in 2 of the 6 games he started last year and those were against powerhouses USM and UTSA. Oh yea, and he didn't complete 58% in either game but he did throw 1 td against UTSA and their defense is just as good as UGA so there ya go..
  12. There is no excuse not to move the ball downfield with the running backs we have and quality receivers like Carlos Harris. AM has way more trouble moving the ball downfield than DT ever did, and other than starting field position, that has zero to do with the defense or special teams.
  13. Let's not forget last year was supposed to be a sleepwalk to 6 wins schedule. Also, you can compare '11 or '12 Thompson to any year McNulty and Thompson is still better statistically. AM would not have played any better than DT in the games you speak of in '13.
  14. Someone else had a nice spring game against the ones and ended up dropped from 2nd on the depth chart to a non-factor in the race for the starting job.
  15. But I thought AM was the safe bet bus driver who doesn't make mistakes that Mac trusts. I'm sure glad that he did the same for the other quarterbacks on our roster, oh wait, no, he benched those guys without a chance at redemption.
  16. DT showed flashes prior to his senior season that AM never has. If McNulty can come in, complete more than 57% of his passes(which DT did all 3 years he started '11-'13), have at least as many touchdowns as interceptions(which DT did all 3 years he started '11-'13) and average 220 yards passing per game(which DT did in both seasons he started every game '12-'13), then I will be happy to cheer on his DT-like season. Until that happens, I don't see how you can possibly compare the two other than being North Texas starting quarterbacks. AM hasn't come close to being as good as DT's best but has proven he can play well below DT's worst.
  17. I've only been around since '05 Dickey so I chose Dodge. He wasn't a great on-field coach but he did bring us: a new stadium, Brelan Chancellor, Brandin Byrd, Zach Orr, Richard Abbe, Antonio Johnson, Will Wright, Mason Y'Barbo, Derek Thompson and Lance Dunbar, McCarney won a bowl game but did it with mostly Dodge's players and I can never forgive Dickey for the uniform thing so I had to go Dodge. If he'd have let Chico do the coaching and just stuck to fundraising and recruiting, we might've won a conference title since 2004. When McCarney gets a qb that can play, I will change my vote.
  18. I'm firmly in CaribbeanGreen's camp at this point. I'm hoping fall practice will change my mind.
  19. Why in his 'Thoughts on UNT's top 25" did Vito list every black qb we have had over the last 15 years as players expected to save the day but didn't include Riley Dodge or Vizza? I'd say those 2 were the most "expected to save the day" qbs we've had in the last 15yrs. I can't remember if Josh Greer was supposed to save the day or not but he had some folks excited around here before the Texas game. I think DaMarcus Smith has more in common with Riley when you look at skill sets, stature, and how highly-touted they were out of high school. I don't see the connection to Byerly or DW. I'd also say Williams and Wilson had some success and were more talented than their peers on the team but were pulled because of turnovers and sent to the scrap heap never to be heard from again. That failure is on the coaches. A good qb coach can teach a young quarterback to throw the ball away rather than force it to try and make plays.
  20. I just hope he has a better playing career at North Texas than the "hair" Todd Dodge signed.
  21. Color me ignorant but I was unaware that you could start a sentence with the word "who" and it not be a question.
  22. Wow. Very depressing that we only have 8 players better than McNulty. Don't get me wrong, great kid, hard worker, loves his school, but not a FBS qb. Hopefully the coaches can turn this thing around and get some better players(according to Vito) in here.
