  1. You echo many of previous comments. After the dynamic offensive calls against Akron, I agree with DD that there are still significant execution problems. It was harder to see this in our running game, but became very apparent in our passing game. Woody simply was not as sharp and missed a couple of easy passes, including a pass to the end zone to a fairly wide open receiver or tight end (can't recall who is was) in the 2nd half. But you have to expect this given he hasn't taken most of snaps in practice, and only played 1/2 - 3/4 games. I am concerned about is what offensive play book will show up against MTSU. We are so hit and miss. It like a different offense shows up at each game. If the calls are anything like the SMU game, and 2nd half Akron, I have NO PROBLEM with the coaches on offense. We didn't score Akron b/c of execution, not play calling.
  2. I'll have to reread what he said, but that was not my impression of what he said. I think the 6 year thing was referencing the fact that before 2000 (6 years ago) there was no plans for a new stadium, and that we cannot just expect that one would be built within 6 years of our demands. Moreover, though he said that while donations are low, the stadium project 2009 date is still on track. I'll have to reread it, and maybe you should try to with this perspective, and see if my take is remotely accurate.
  3. ya, that was sooooo funny... those idiots didn't know they were still on the air. It was hard to argue with the inept comments looking at the score... but it was even funnier when in the 2nd half after Akron was getting shut out & it looked like we could come back to win, they got very serious and somewhat squeamish... they even started complimenting our defensive adjustments and noted that if we had any offensive, the game was ours to take.. the also starting mildly criticizing Akron's lack of overall adjustments. I strongly believe that we would have won this game if our QB situation was settled at the beginning of the season. Woody needed more play time to get in sync. You cannot ask a freshman QB to do this playing 1/2 games. The good news: our defense gave us a real chance to win even though we were down 20+ points against a strong team. Once Woody and our offense gets in sync (huge assumption, I know), we are going to be extremely tough to beat. This is why I am so excited about the rest of this, and next, season. To me, Akron was a sign of life.
  4. What's the skinny on this Jackson kid? Also, why only two years INCLUDING this season? He hasn't played a game this year, and we will be 1 game shy of 50% of games played after the MUTS. If he is really good (I don't know anything about him) then it seems like a waste.
  5. I nominate 'MUTS is still our bitch" as a best sub-heading of the year.
  6. I never knew Glad to Be Green was RV until tonight, and I did a search on GMG to read several of his posts. I am relieved to hear his comments and responses to numerous topics posted in this forum. Kudos to RV for facing head-on a somewhat unfriendly environment… that is total class. I was soooo excited to attend a school with D1A athletics when I accepted here, but I’ll be damn if I wasn’t starting to lose sleep over concerns that our athletics was heading down the drain. I had visions of RV sitting back with DD with umbrellas in their drinks, laughing it up and collecting check$. However, I firmly believe that RV is dedicated to moving this program forward. In fact, he seems to have the same or similar goals as we do, albeit expresses them a little more rationally. No doubt we are a dedicated seething hotbed of unbridled, yet well intentioned, verbal and emotional support (sounds like more financial support needs to be added to this list according to RV's posts). Does this mean that I’ll sit back and except anything that comes along? Of course not. I’ll still have the same expectations that I have posted again and again. I’ll probably temper my tone knowing that we have an athletic director who is not only aware of these concerns, but is also working hard to overcome them. RV, I hope to hear from you soon in this forum.
  7. i just found this.. I couldn't recall what post I asked this question. I really want to read what he has to say. Thanks!
  8. Notice I said "when the rebuild is complete." I didn't mean to insinuate that it was this year. In regards to defense, don't we have a totally new look since 2003? A smaller, faster 3-4. Is it a little early to judge this defense? I don't know what to think about the current offense, time will tell. But if Woody turns out to be as good as everyone thinks, we may just be surprised....the stars may have to align again for us to surpass our previous glory days - maybe we should hire a Mean Green astrologist.
  9. Great analysis. Some may have wondered why I was so critical after Tulsa and middle of the road (positive and negative) after Akron. I think those that can't find both good and bad in our play aren't being honest with themselves. Yes, I saw some terrible stuff against Akron, but I also saw some significant improvements after only 1 game. This is not loser talk, but I think a fair analysis of the Akron game. Overall, we are really hurting, but I did see some bright spots in Akron. Next week against MTSU.. who knows... we have been so inconsistent I feel like we are a different team game to game (SMU-Tulsa), or hell, even half-to-half (Tulsa 1rst half to 2nd half or Akron 1rst half to 2nd half).
  10. I'll have to abstain from a vote since I haven't been around long enough to truly evaluate the program. What I think and HOPE will happen: we are undoubtedly in a rebuilding period. I can only hope that once the rebuild is complete, it will take us further than the 2000-2004 years did. To define this hope more clearly: we win the SBC championship, we WIN the NO bowl, AND become competitive in all OOC games (we don't have to win EVERY game, but at least play well). I don't believe these are unreasonable expectations either since anything short of these means that we are regressing. I wouldn't mind a move to CUSA either, but I can live without that.
  11. thanks for posting this. Exciting video. What is our progress on these plans? What has been built? What hasn't? I know we have a new president since this video. Has that changed anything?
  12. Thanks for correcting me on that point.. I'll check the stats again.. I'm sure your right... Damn, I mentioned that in several threads. I thought that kickoff returns were included. Are punt returns tallied separately too? I'll have to go back a review the stats. 389 yards is great compared to what's been going on previously, no doubt. The Red Zone offense is really concerning me too.
  13. I am new to this board. How often does RV post? What is his user name? I'd like to read some of his past posts. I'd love to hear another side of the story.
  14. sorry.. just figured it out.. Athletic Director and Board of Regents... Google search...
  15. just figured out AD "athletic director" after searching Rick Villarreal on UNT....
  16. I am not familiar with this video.. I'll hunt it down.. thanks for the heads up.. I'd really like to get up to speed on this stuff... OK, another newbie question... what is the BOR and AD I always see??
  17. I hear you. I am not beating the "things are great" drum. But I think our defense is much better than the stats reflect for one main reason: our offense has struggled (1, 2, 3, punt; 1, 2, 3, punt) so badly that our defense stays on the field an inordinate amount of time. I don't have the factual times to back this up and maybe I'm wrong. But, in the big losses (which skews the results quite a bit) against Tulsa and UT, 3 & out were the norm. I don't include Akron, b/c that was a plus for our defense (NOT special teams) b/c Akron only generated 150 yards offensive (if you subtract out special teams yards) and were completely shut out the second half. I see a young defense that is going to get better and better over this season. Maybe I don't know what the hell I'm talking about either. These are just casual observations.
  18. I'm sorry, can y'all bring me up to speed on all the names and titles of important folks in power at UNT, as well as a brief history of them... I always see initials (ex. "RV") and never know who everyone is talking about... I would greatly appreciate it... sorry for the ignorance, I am relatively new student.. Thanks!
  19. This is very concerning. Can anyone that knows anything about our new president shed any additional light on this? Also, I recall someone posting that the new president came from a school with a rich athletic background and thought it might help our program. Do I remember this right?
  20. Who cares if the 2nd string RB played? Just b/c he isn't the starter does that mean he sucks.... it gets into sketchy territory when you start discounting our accomplishments (or lack thereof) based on someone that didn't play, except in exceptional circumstances. You don't think our defense would have adjusted to the starter? I believe they would have. No one knows though. Besides, I said that figuratively... fact is, all teams have players that can't play at certain points for various reasons.. Do we say, "our opponents really weren't that good b/c our starting linebacker Phillip Graves isn't playing." Ridiculous statement. We have to judge the game knowing that each opponent plays their best with what they have at that moment in time... to discount, criticize, or praise our defense b/c Akron's starting running back (one person) didn't play or to hypothesize that if he did play they would have scored more misses the point.
  21. Thanks for a more eloquent explanation of why I am hopeful from what I saw against Akron in terms of offense. And yes, our defense is so much better. They held Arkon to zero (I think) points in the 2nd half. We just let punt returns get the best of us. Our defensive was constantly on the field against Tulsa, and they played their hearts out. One correction, Meager did play against Akron, at the end, but he did play.

  23. Maybe that's true and maybe it's not. I stand by my above analysis nonetheless.
  24. Yes, but we have rotated 3 QBs and still haven't had a single game that the starter finished. Moreover, it was only THIS WEEK that DD had Woody take a majority of the snaps in practice. What would you expect? It appears that Woody is our man now. I think we are going to see our offense improve exponentially over the course of this season... LA Tech will be an upcoming OOC measuring stick. Remember, this is Woody's first time to ever take snaps in D1A ball... we basically have a freshman QB. I believe he will turn into a big time QB for us, if he can stay healthy.
