  1. We hired someone every bit as bad as Benford in Ken Pol Pot McDummy McDonald after Horn took the South Carolina job. We eventually fired him mid season his last year and Ray took over as interim. He ended up getting the job before we won the sun belt tourney that year. But as bad as Ken Pol Pot McDummy McDonald was as a coach he was a train wreck in his personal life. He had several serious issues around town. To be honest, if he was winning that stuff could have been swept under the rug. Because as much as we love to pretend we want things done the right way. We want to win. Bottom line. Ray graduated all 7 guys last year. He's graduating 3 guys with Masters degrees this year and even Chris Harrison Docks is graduating allowing him to txfer immediately to DePaul. So Ray has done things the right way. When he took over he couldn't clean house because Ken Pol Pot McDummy McDonald had us on the precipice of APR troubles. Won 20 games his first 3 years and struggled this year with a whole new team. But I didn't hear about how great a job he was doing graduating kids. I kept hearing our AD and him don't get along swimmingly and Ray was in trouble. He still doesn't have a contract yet. It expires in about a week. I'd love nothing more than to win this tourney now that we put UAB out but even if we lose to Mr. Mediocre Jeff Jones tomorrow I personally believe Ray has earned the chance to coach what should be a very good team next year.
  2. Hopefully he's off the hot seat. I actually heard that he was getting extended before the tourney even started but they were waiting for the best time to announce it. in my opinion he should have never been on the hot seat. We had 8 new scholarship players this year and it took a long time and kicking Chris Harrison-Docks off the team for them to ever gel. We've been playing pretty well at the end of the year and looked pretty decent today against UAB. Doesn't mean we'll win tomorrow but we should have a good shot against who I consider a highly overrated coach in Jeff Jones. Justin Johnson has been a load for everyone in the tourney and he's just a sophomore. Chris McNeal is a freshman point God and he's done a fine job. Set the record for assists by a freshman at Western. We have a game changer that sat out this year in Willie Carmichael. He has Jeremy Evans athleticism with Anthony Winchester fire in him. We should be very solid next year. Ray should be allowed to coach that team.
  3. we had our super long losing streak during our transition to fbs and our first year eligible. this makes 5 years in a row with 7 or more wins (under 3 different coaches). 5 years in a row of 7 or more wins doesn't sound that impressive until you see how small that group actually is. i got to catch every home game of course and also vandy and fiu on the road. this was a very good football team. everyone knows about doughty and the offense but our defense improved every week of the season. from one of the worst defenses in the country last year to a very serviceable dee with the offense we had. it looks like we may be able to keep coach brohm for at least another year. most of the 'sexy' jobs are gone for now. i can't see him being interested in an ecu type job but could be wrong. he turned down memphis and ucf which are similar moves. we do lose doughty but our entire o-line returns (i thought it was the best in the league this year). our top 2 receivers are back and we're loaded at that position anyway. our top 2 running backs return. word is leon allen is even going to return so that'll be a crowded backfield. mike white who started as a freshman and sophomore at USF sat out this year shadowing Doughty and learning the playbook. we also have a txfer from Louisville in here. QB is up for grabs. but with a former qb like Brohm as head coach I'll feel confident with whoever he rolls out there. we take some hits on dee so that'll be a question mark for sure. and thanks to those that offered congratulations.
  4. sorry my brother. if anyone knows the despair it's a western fan that KNEW Ken Pol Pot McDummy McDonald was running us off a cliff and not being able to do anything about it. he's doling out his brand of basketball poison in the great state of texas as coach of the austin toros now. btw.....retired on 12/26. already took advantage of the time off. drove down to florida and did both the fau and fiu games. talk about jokes of gyms. but the 75 degrees on the day of the fiu game was nice. not sure if i'll pull the trigger on the la tech and usm road swing coming up. ruston and hattiesburg < boca and miami.
  5. It was a great game in an awesome atmosphere. We're slowly coming back from the hole that Ken Pol Pot McDummy McDonald dug for our program. We were retiring Courtney Lee's jersey number last night so there was a lot of hoopla surrounding that. Add in the fact that King Bag Tim Floyd was returning to Diddle for the first time since his UNO days and it was a raucous environ. This team has plenty of defects but are playing well as a team right now. We're still pretty slow of foot and not very large. But until last night we were simply not turning the ball over. I'm talking sub Wisconsin level of not turning it over for a several game stretch. I kept checking conference scores and was shocked by 2. You guys running away in the first half against Tech and the Middle/ODU game. Both of you held on even though the other teams made runs. We are thrilled to be in a conference that actually cares about hoops. I wouldn't make any bets on our team to win this conference tourney but I believe we'll have a good shot at it. Along with several others.
  6. well we're just now clawing out of the hole ken 'pol pot mcdummy' mcdonald put us in. we have played the last 2 seasons with the least athletic ability i can remember in the last 20 years. ray has brought in some pretty good looking athletes in his second full class. we'll see how that translates. looking forward to the football too.
  7. glad to be back in a conference with the mean green.
  8. did i mention donnie 'fat tub of goo' tyndall is dirtier than a crack-ho's crusty undies? he is. don't let his jolly fat guy persona fool ya.......he's covered in slime goo. i did a 'name that coach' thread before we played them....it took several hints but our posters finally nailed it. click aqui -----> http://hilltopperhaven.com/board/index.php/topic,2049.0.html 'name that coach!'
  9. we should be a load next year amigo. we'll be pretty good by the end of this year. We've played pretty well since we got our midseason txfers eligible. Completely different team now. We're still not real athletic yet but next seasons recruits will help out. All 3 are 3* high school guys. They won't be counted on to contribute immediately as Fant and Price will be seniors and Trency Jackson as well. Chris Harrison-Docks will only be a sophomore but he plays like a junior already. Ray Harper is getting his players in here now and they don't look like what McDummy was bringing in.
  10. your guards better handle the ball well. it will help if you shoot well outside too. they use a 3/4 to full court press the whole game. it's not like the vcu HAVOC style press but it molests you. when you get it across they try to trap you out high. they play zone the whole game. they're long out front of the zone and this creates problems but they're not real large if you can get it inside. their schedule is somewhat smoke and mirrors but they are tough to beat. our game went the full 40 minutes for sure. donnie tyndall is a dirty fat tub of goo that comes from the convicted cheating tree of kermit davis. kermit came from the tim floyd/larry eustachy tree. you always feel like you need a shower after playing one of these guys. donnie can coach. but he'll sign 20 guys and pray to get 13 eligible. i see ya'lls record but other than the a&m game know nothing about you this year. good luck and don't forget to shower after the game. donnie fat tub of goo's slime is that pervasive.
  11. the tasty greek and i go back to the sbc tourney in mobile. that was one hella post and not because he used western. he just kept it real. people don't want to hear real sometimes. and i brought real to our board when i was sure mcdummy was killing our program. he literally set our program back 5 years. ray harper did a miraculous job getting us back to 'respectable' but it will be 2 more years of recruiting to get back pre-mcdummy. we caught a lot of hell in the state media for firing eLLLLLLLLLLLLson and the dummy in season. but the president realized he was rapidly losing his fanbases in both sports. he stood to lose more money than he was saving by not firing them. we still have plenty of problems but right now the 2 major sports seem to be on fairly solid ground. during the eLLLLLLLLLLLson debacle we were the butt of national jokes with the 0-26 streak. during the mcdummy slide we just became irrelevant. i wish the mean green the best. us topper fans always felt like ya'll at least cared about hoops unlike the majority of the belt. glad to soon be in the same conference again. coosa is definitely a step up in hoops. ttg knows my heart goes out. i suffered through the dummy but i knew we'd eventually run him off and start the climb back up. sincerely, dahbeed.
  12. my guess is we've backed off. supposedly after his teammate darius carter. we're playing a waiting game on ky mr. basketball. he wants to go to uk badly. uk has to kick a few more off to make room so he can wave from the bench while calipari's one year wonders take the floor. that's the life of western. we offered this kid his junior year. he blows up in the state tourney and all the uk fans want him now. cal doesn't really but is feeling heat over no ky kids.
  13. i've argued on h haven it's still a one bid league post-memphis. that said....the coosa schools tend to at least emphasize hoops unlike a large part the remaining belt schools. not to mention who is being brought on board. it's bump perception-wise and a bump in hoops. not so sure in football. lateral at best.
  14. it appears the mean green will get to continue the tradition of coming to bowling green. glad to see the rivalry not end......just take a year hiatus.
  15. haven't been here for awhile but thought I'd check in since you're our next game. I'm fully aware of the ulala game and also know those results have no impact on how our game will turn out. I can see your board is angst-filled much like ours was during the tenure of McDummy. Most of our fans understand it'll take a couple years to un-do the damage but we still have some harper-haters that squeal with delight over every misstep. I wouldn't wish what you're going through or what we went through on anyone. Hold that.....I would certainly wish it on Middle. But they kinda had mediocrity on hold kermit 's first 9 years.
  16. this is the funniest thing i've seen today. mainly because we have 2 cats and they do stuff like this. i also made it my signature on hilltopper haven with 'wku athletics' over it. hope you don't mind.
  17. I certainly don't want to add gas to the fire....but. a good friend of mine was behind your bench and he said your boy is in over his head. On one play you guys had trapped George Fant in the corner. He made a perfect skip pass to an open 3. You guys had done nothing wrong. George just happened to make a very good play. Benford reamed your players about their rotation. Sometimes you can do everything right and the other guy makes a play. That's 'tip your cap' time. But he didn't know what he was talking about. We know what you're going through after our bout with McDummy. I followed the SIU board and watched it devolve as their fans turned on Lowery. Ours devolved the same way. You have a couple apologists but most educated fans can tell when someone is lost. Complaining on message boards 'might' have some impact but what got the dummy fired was declining attendance. I just don't see any way short of a massive scandal that your university would even consider getting rid of Benford. There is still time to turn this season around. We went to the NCAA tourney with a losing record. If you play the way you did last night coupled with our conference you'll start winning some games. I hope it begins at Middle. Btw, he didn't kill us last night but I've always really liked Franklin. He's a high motor player and a class act. At least when we've faced him.
  18. i'm right there with you amigo. we play the little weasel tonight that i didn't want as our coach but the state newspapers were trying to shove down our throats. every time we're in the looking for a coach bidness the louieville and lexington newspapers tell us what former kat or card we need to hire. last year it was pelphrey (i'd have given up season tickets) from the kayutt fans and it was little dick (richard) pitino from the card fans. dickerson is out until who knows when. crook has a broken foot. his backup kaspar has a hammy and played very little in the louieville game. tj price...our best player tried to go in the louieville game but only lasted about 2 minutes. 'high ankle sprain' is what they're calling it. i do expect us to play hard at home. it's one of the things ray has put a premium on. of course he wants to win every game but he does not want to lose at home....ever. we'll see starting tonight. we havent won a game since the injuries started piling up. i read your shooting numbers in another post and i certainly don't expect to see that saturday night. people love to shoot at diddle. it's a great gym for hoops and opponents always seem to light us up no matter what they're doing when they come in here.
  19. 1. Change of coaches and scheme can most certainly affect shooting percentages. When Ray took over for McDummy last year our percentages went up in every category. 2. You will shoot your best percentage of the year against us at Diddle Arena. It has a great shooters background. 3. Shooting is a lost art due to emphasis on the dunk and the 'dribble drive' offense trickling down to the lower levels. 4. If your team can install a press we're in big trouble. Caden Dickerson is out. TJ Price has been out for 4 games now. Jamal Crook broke his foot against Murray. Kevin Kaspar tried to play against Louieville but couldn't go. That's the top 2 point gods and top 2 shooting guards out. 5. Some of our fans are complaining about us looking 'rough' against Murray, and VCU, on the road and Louieville in Nashville. 6. I've never seen a UNT team play poorly in Diddle and don't expect it now. 7. Scandals don't necessarily get coaches fired. See McDummy in his parking garage escapades. One year of losing doesn't get them fired. Continued losing does get them fired.
  20. Manzanzas y naranjas amigo. The first year of McDummy we had OMV coming back as a senior. All conference AJ Slaughter and future NBA pick Jeremy Evans returning. McDummy was laissez-affaire enough in his everyday approach that he let OMV bark orders and run that team. I'm still amazed at the sack OMV drug with him. I started worrying in year 2 when nobody on Western could keep anybody in front of them and McDummy didn't seem concerned. I was the first person on haven to question him not recruiting shooters......the bread and butter of mid-majors. The next year was even worse when he had 3 all conference types in Pettigrew, Pattilo, and Kerusch. Kevin Durant's half brother Cliff Dixon coming off the bench. Pattilo and Dixon had a major fist-fight in the locker room early in the season. It went downhill from there. There was an uproar on haven that year. We all wanted him fired but the administration backed him with McReset. Last year the final straw was not the 6 on 5 loss to ulala. It was only around 2k attendance when they were selling 1$ tickets at the local convenience stores. During most of this time we knew the dummy was in over his head. You guys are feeling it halfway through your first year with yours. My heart goes out to your hoops fans. In my gut....you'll have it turned around when you play us
  21. we're pleased. 1.2 million buyout if he leaves before 2019. that's free money for next coach. willie t. didn't leave the cupboard bare. demarkus smith sat out this year. he was a 4* and number 11 rated qb in country according to rivals. dual threat. it's got all the locals fired up for sure.
  22. only 2. but i'm fitty-tree....have already fathered 2 fine sons. already had the huevos cut 10 years ago. been married for 28 years so they're not in constant use anyhoo. and i really hate murray state. ps. i'm guessing they make birdseed prosthetics for the beach speedo!
  23. we beat iupui 77-57 with our best player on the bench. the jaguars suck this year at 3-8 but we need every win we can get. we're now at 8-2 and i'd give a testicle to beat murray state next sunday. we play them at murray. isaiah canaan and ed daniel are the real deal but i won't count us out because of ray harper. he wanted the murray job a couple times and they turned him down. we're still slow of foot but ray has us playing good team dee. we've ran good offense this year but nobody but tj price could hit a shot. with tj out everyone picked up slack. middle seems legit. i still don't think brady's much as a coach but asu gives us fits. good luck against jackson state.
  24. a good run game can be exciting and effective. #wkuwestcoast
