  1. Pet peeve - "Young literally put the Longhorns on his back and carried them to the title."

If Vince Young had made that play with the team literally on his back, it would have been #1 for sure.

The sad thing is, while that play was impressive, the biggest play of that game was the defensive stop on 4th down.

  2. shouldnt throw stones if you live in a glass house.

but Id take someone like Mack Brown that wants to sell NT and makes everyone believe in the program in a heartbeat.

Our administration would not allow that. laugh.gif

Mack recruits great athletes. Raises lots of money. And he is always positive about UT. Who wouldn't want that?

  3. Ramonce Taylor busted with 5lb's of Pot

'Horns running back arrested after deputies find marijuana

03:17 PM CDT on Sunday, May 14, 2006

By JIM VERTUNO / AP Sports Writer

Texas running back Ramonce Taylor, who scored a touchdown in the Longhorns' Rose Bowl win over Southern California, was arrested early Sunday by Bell County sheriff's deputies after they reported finding about five pounds of marijuana in a backpack in his car.

According to the arrest report released by Sheriff Dan Smith, deputies also found a live 40-caliber round of ammunition in the console of the vehicle.

Taylor, 20, was arrested for possession of marijuana over five pounds, a second-degree felony. A second degree felony is punishable by two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

The case was to be reviewed by District Attorney Henry Garza's office Sunday to decide if formal charges would be filed, according to a news release from sheriff's office. Taylor remained in custody in the Bell County Jail and would be arraigned Monday if formal charges are filed.

Calls to Garza's office Sunday went unanswered.

It was not immediately clear if Taylor had an attorney. Texas football officials didn't immediately comment.

Ken Oden, an Austin attorney who represented Taylor in a December assault investigation - Taylor wasn't charged - told the Austin American-Statesman the player's mother told him about the arrest. Oden said he suggested hiring a lawyer in Bell County.

"She's just trying to figure things out," Oden said.

According to the arrest report, deputies received a report at 1:35 a.m. Sunday of a large fight involving as many as 100 people at a pecan farm in Little River, a community about 40 miles north of Austin.

Deputies also received a call from someone who said they had been at the fight and who complained that a window on his vehicle had been broken. That caller turned out to be Taylor.

While interviewing Taylor at a convenience store, Smith's report said deputies were told by other officers at the fight scene that Taylor had been involved and had threatened to return with a gun. Taylor was placed in handcuffs.

Taylor told deputies he didn't have a gun and gave them permission to search his vehicle. Deputies reported finding the bullet and the backpack with the marijuana. Deputies said the backpack belonged to Taylor.

Taylor was arrested and his vehicle impounded. Two other individuals with him, who were not named in the report, were released at the scene.

An operator at the sheriff's office said Smith would not comment on the report on Sunday and that no other information was available.

One of Texas' most versatile players, Taylor scored 15 touchdowns last season, including a 30-yard scoring run in the Rose Bowl, which Texas won 41-38. The win gave Texas its first outright national championship since 1969.

But he had been excused by coach Mack Brown from spring practices to concentrate on his school work.

  4. I'd like to add Jamario b/c he's from my hometown, but I'm going with:

    Jonathan Stewart

    # 61

    Defensive Tackle - DT

    Height: 6-2 Weight: 260

Not only is DT one of my favorite and most important positions, but I love his TV show on Comedy Central.

  5. What development firm bought up the property?

If the barber shop does not cave will that kill the development?

I'd hate to see a lot of those places go away. I was never a fan of the State Club, but I did visit there a few times. Please tell me the "Tomato" would not go away. Based on the limited info I've recieved, I'd fight it if I lived in Denton. Fry Street was one of my favorite hangouts in college and I hate for it to turn into the "West End in Denton". I hate that place.

  6. NCAA recertifies UNT athletic department

11:00 PM CDT on Thursday, May 4, 2006

By BRETT VITO / Denton Record-Chronicle

DENTON – The NCAA announced that it has recertified the UNT athletic department. The department will be required to provide anyone involved with athletics a notice emphasizing the importance of following NCAA rules and regulations.

    What does this mean?

  7. you guys are seriously nuts if you think NT has a chance in hell to stay within 40 pts of UT. Even though they have a rookie QB, there is no question that these two guys are studs and are light years aheads of UNT's. all they have to do is manage the game and they will be national title contenders again. they have the best back field in the nation, top young receivers, and according to ESPN one of the best D's in the country. oh yeah...#2 recruiting class in the country. they will be pre-season top 5 with many people claiming they have MORE talent overall this year.....keep dreaming guys...this will be a laugher. UNT cant even play with sunbelt teams...

    UT- 57

    UNT- 3

Texas does have superior talent, but from what I saw of qb play they won't have much of a passing attack. I know it's early, and the qb's can develop (although Mack's reputation at developing qb passing abilities is questionable...at best) but Texas will be one dimensional next year. It is a heck of a dimension, though. I don't think we'll win, but it should be a little closer than in '04.

  8. So I had to watch it b/c I was there earning a paycheck. They did not look that good, on offense anyway. There is significant drop off at the qb position (as expected). Very few passes were on target. Special teams looked good and the defense was playing pretty well, but they did not execute on offense. That zone read thing did not work with qb's who can't run.

BTW I was trying to watch the final four at the same time. What a snooze fest! I just hope the championship game is worthwhile.

    GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!
