    I want to believe. I do. And I'll be there cheering my heart out, but now there is just a pessimistic side of me. 4 years ago I had faith, and held my head high when we left DKR b/c we fought valliantly. 2 years ago I was quite skeptical and rightly so. I left DKR with my head hung low. This year I really don't know what to think. My only hope is that JMo rips off some big runs.

  4. Rules change

    There are two new rules changes for college football.

    1. The clock starts on kickoffs. It used to start once the ball was touched by the recieving team.

    2. After a first down, the clock will stop long enough to have the ball ready for play. It used to stay stopped until the snap.

    On the local (Austin) Fox affiliate they will have some sound bites from DD. I'm sure it was shot by KDFW, and fed to Austin. So there is a chance Ch4 will have sound from DD.

    I just saw that Tech's star reciever flunked out, and cannot play this year.

    Defense:

    As with any football game it's all in the trenches. We might be outgunned here, but I want to see effective blitzing by our LB's to counter that. If we can just make the Texas QB rush his throw a little... He's already excited, we just have to get to him. This will be the same defensive game plan for every Texas opponent until Colt McCoy proves himself. For us, that means the LB position, which we are supposed to be deep at, will have to make big plays. Our LB play is also big b/c during a run you have to fill those gaps!

    Offense:

    Can our O-line block for JMo and is he back to form? Will Phillips stand in the pocket too long and get blindsided by a Texas DE, or will he throw a perfect strike to Johnny Quinn. And if he does, will he catch it? These questions, and many more, will be answered on the next episode of SOAP! In reality I know what needs to be done, but I've not seen the ability to do it in big games. We need to have a good mix of run and pass. Stay in bounds and run clock. To do that we have to win in the trenches.

    Special Teams:

    We get screwed by special teams a lot. So does Texas. So how is it, that many of our punters have gone on to NFL careers? Stay away from trick plays, and hang on to the ball.

    Now to hijack a thread...

    Is it possible that with DD's recent health issues he has a different frame of mind? I'm just speaking from personal experience, but once I quit smoking, started exercising, and generally taking care of my body it seemed as though every aspect of my life got better, mentally and physically.

    When I listened to dd interviewed on the radio in Austin 2 years ago he just wanted the team to get out of Austin unharmed. This year he seemed a little more positive. He acknowledged that we were overmatched, but had encouraged the team to go out and fight for every play.

    I have more hope than 2 years ago, but not by much.

    I say

    Texas 45

    NT 3

    Our first play will be a JMo sweep to the right for no gain.

    I've seen a little of the Texas QB's practice and they are both gunslingers. Texas will try to make this game an air attack. If we don't succesfully blitz, or cover, it's gonna get ugly quick. You know, 6 years ago when we had our stellar defense I actually had hope that we'd give them a good game, and we did. Man, I miss that defense.

    Cop to me: "Son, if you know your rights so well, why are you in the back of my patrol car?"

    Me to self: Uhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm. Well............

    End of argument. Young, arrogant and inebriated is not a good combination. Or to quote Animal House, "Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son." I think I've grown up a bit since then.

    Despite what my birth certificate says I think I'll be like Jack Benny and be perpetually 39.

    All I want for my birthday is a game plan against OOC opponents. More specifically, a winning game plan against SMU. It looks like I get to come to Denton a lot more this year than I did last year.
