  1. I only wished I was the guy up in Norman who came up with the hats several years ago.  He probably retired off of it.

Are you talking about the upside down horns? They had to pay UT for the licensing of that product. Thus increasing their athletic budget. Which in turn gives them better facilities, which allows them to recruit better athletes, which in turn puts them in a position to win national titles. Real smart.

Rick, the upside down horn doesn't bother me that much. I find it funny that you whine like a baby and spend so much time and energy being a player hater when that time is better served promoting your own school (which you do a lot of and I'm glad for it). The point I was trying to make was, you were tailgating at an NT basketball game, where we played someone other than UT, but you have so much hate in your heart for a school that isn't even a true rival of ours, that you, Emmit and the like have to be disrespectful. You keep saying that Texas bought this national title. Did you say the same when OU won? Or LSU? Or even USC? I bet not.

Hey man, I can't stand OU, but I give them proper respect when they win. As a matter of fact I really like their basketball coach Kelvin Sampson. I don't root for them, but I respect what he's done with their team and HUGE athletic budget.

What's it like to hate that much, Rick?

  2. Everything on the basketball court is new this year.  If you will notice, we redid the typeface and updated the color.  The color green is exactly the PMS color that our little friends in marketing/communications dictated.  One reason for the new 'brightness' might be the effect the lights have on it.  As you know, the lights can play tricks on colors.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I'm just nit picking. I would prefer a darker tint, but that's just my personal preference. The color of the uni's doesn't seem to match the color on the floor.

    GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. If the Klan from Texas gets into a riot against the Aryan brotherhood from Montana you won't see me waving my Texas flag and telling the Klan to "bring one home for the good ol' state of Texas."

Everyone knows the Aryan brotherhood from Montana would kill the Klan from Texas. laugh.gif

If only they could kill each other... dry.gif

  4. At least we managed to change all the Whorn-Orange seats out of the SuperPit before this Longhorn-Lovefest erupted.    tongue.gif

I couldn't agree more. Trilli did two good things. Changed those seats, and recruited good players. Now filling those seats with fans, and actually coaching those players is a different story.

This might be nit picking but is the shade of green on the basketball court a little too bright? I seem to recall someone saying it was expensive to change that.

    GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Reggie Bush should be the first pick in the NFL draft.  He is an amazing player...yes, better than Vince Young.  I don't know if he's a better athlete, he may not be, but he's a better player.

If I'm drafting, I take Reggie Bush. And I root for Texas quite a bit. His style translates to the Pro's better than VY, and he has amazing speed, even for the pros.

That being said, Vince is still a first round pick. He has great leadership abilities. He, quite simply, put that team on his back and led them to a national title.

Emmit you are right about the zone read not being a pro style play. That's why IT IS USED IN COLLEGE!!!! I think Vince can mature in the pro's. He has matured quite nicely in Austin.

    GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!

  6. I picked Texas, but I am an admitted homer from a T-sipper family. I don't understand the anti UT sentiment from people like FFRick. If A&M were in this game would most of these people feel the same way? My feelings are "Anybody but Texas Tech!"

    GO MEAN GREEN !!!!

I have to edit this to say Vince Young is such the hype!

  7. 10-2 so far this year. They still need to develop an inside game, and handle the ball better to make it to the big dance, but they look good. I think they got some help from the officials early.

How much of a homer am I? I watched this game on line on New Year's Eve while there are all kinds of bowl games on tv. Maybe this cold I have is affecting me more than I thought.

    GO MEAN GREEN.

  8. A few observations:

I went with my brother and his 3 year old daughter. Me in my NT garb and he and his all in burnt orange. Before the game we went to "Conradt's Court". It's a place where kids can go play and burn off some energy, meanwhile I shot baskets. Do we do anything like this, or do we draw enough fans with kids to make this a viable option? It's not that big of a set up.

We sat directly across from the NT group. In the first half the lady behind me said, "Their fans are louder than ours." She was right. You guys made a nice racket. I do wish we could decide on one shade of green. The women's uni's look good in hunter green, but many of our fans wear these lime green shirts. Either way you guys made a hell of a racket and sounded good. I didn't even notice that the court announcer twice called us North Texas State. When my brother told me that later he said, "You usually go berserk when people say that. It surprised me when you didn't."

The game. We did not handle the ball well. On the plus side, neither did Texas. Both teams played with a lot of heart, but not a lot of skill. Quite simply, we did not have an answer for Tiffany Jackson. They fed her the ball as much as possible, and just wore us down. Tiffany Jackson is as good as women's college bball gets. I really wanted to see more picks to set up a three, b/c while we were cold from midrange, we hit some key three's that changed momentum. I don't know the stats, but we seemed to rebound well. Poor shooting % was costly. I think this could be a good team, but still needs some work.

I had a good time and left feeling that we have a good team. I have reason to be hopeful for a solid season and hopefully a tourney slot.

    GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!

  9. Yeah, I knew it was over a minute, but wasn't exactly sure how much time was left. 1:37 is plenty of time especially with 3 time outs, their stud QB and momentum. What a shame!

The coaching staff just gave up. Kind of like NT against Baylor a few years back. The cameras could have panned that crowd and I would have been the one in disbelief.

    GO MEAN GREEN

  10. I'm surprised no one has commented on this yet. Let me set the scene for you. After trailing most of the game TxState was able to take the lead in the second half by making halftime adjustments. Northen Iowa tied the game with a little over 1 minute remaining. TxState had all 3 timeouts and a stud for a QB. Rather than try to move the ball downfield (which they had done easily in the second half) the coach made the decision to down the ball and try to win in OT. The TV crew kept panning the crowd who was stunned in disbelief that they weren't at least TRYING to win in regulation. The best shot was of a student who clearly said, "What the &$%# are you doing?" I could feel his pain as I've been down that road all too often. Over a minute left and all three timeouts and they downed the ball! They played not to lose, which of course they did. It was a great game and the coach made a decision that took the momentum out of his teams hands and just gift wrapped it to the opposition.

    GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!

  11. Rick,

It's time to practice your anti UT rhetoric (like you need practice) as our women's team has a legitimate shot at beating Texas in their own house Sunday. The Lady Longhorns are beat up, young and over-hyped. Our Lady Eagles are not necesarrily rolling, but they are doing what it takes to win games. This game will be a test for both teams. I think this will be a special year for our women's team, and if our men's team can develop, they could turn some heads.

    GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!

    BEAT TEXAS!!!!!!!

  12. I hope their crying a river of burnt orange tears down in Austin come middle January after losing to the SC underdogs.

    Rick

Would you feel the same if it was A&M vs USC?

I'm actually happy about Mack getting to the big game. He's taken a LOT of heat the last few years and much of it deserved (losing to OU over and over; fan fave Applewhite vs all everything Simms; etc). But through all that he kept on pushing the school, kept a good attitude, and RAISED MONEY! Mack Brown is responsible for much of the fundraising and building upgrades his school recieves, and through that hard work they are on the national stage. And I say the same for Pete Carrol and USC, Hell, I say it for Bob Stoops and I can't stand the man! You guys make it sound as though these coaches just walk in and are handed over infinite cash. That's crap! They work hard at that, and are under a lot of pressure. And those coaches who take it for granted suffer. To be a good coach you have to do the intangibles.

How does that relate to our situation? I don't honestly know, but DD has gotten verbal support from our most notable donor.

Fire away Rick. I'm right behind that boulder.

  13. I don't know what I did in a former life to deserve this, but I got hooked up nicely for the Big XII championship game. I occasionally root for Texas. My wife and all of my family are Texas grads. As we walk into the luxury suite to eat and drink freely, and hob nob with notable politicians, I notice a kid (about 15) wearing a faded lime green North Texas shirt, and hat. Of the 4 in my party, 3 of us were NT grads. We looked at each other and gave the talon sign sign and yelled, "Go Mean Green". My wife says she can't take me anywhere w/o finding some Mean Green fan. We're out there, sometimes you just have to look.

    Go Mean Green!!!!!!!!

  14. here are some of the names that have been throw into consideration for the Rice job:

Duane Akina -  Texas co-defensive coordinator

Major Applewhite - Syracuse quarterbacks coach

David Bailiff - Texas State head coach

Todd Dodge - Southlake Carroll HS head coach

Mike Dunbar - Northwestern off. coordinator

Phil Estes - Brown U. head coach

Turner Gill - Green Bay Packers director of player development

Todd Graham - Tulsa defensive coordinator

Jim Harbaugh - U. of San Diego head coach

Les Koenning Jr. - Texas A&M offensive coordinator

I've heard rumored (so it must be true) RC Slocum is also a candidate. I'm no Aggie, but I like RC. He seems like a quality coach and a good man.

How can we get DD's name tossed in there?

    GO MEAN GREEN!!
