  1. How is Brent Mushburger not mentioned in this list? blink.gif

    And

    4. The absence of Keith Olbermann.

    Good stuff.

These are the two points I identify with best, but...

Army/Navy (go Army beat Navy) is not the same w/o Mussberger, and I freakin love "Countdown with Kieth Olbermann". I think that makes me MSNBC's only viewer.

  2. "Right now I am in the process of evaluating everything," Dickey said. "I think that we need to remember that this coaching staff was the same one that won four conference championships. They didn't become bad coaches overnight because we lost some close games. With that said, we have to evaluate all of our strengths and weaknesses. I have to evaluate myself and recruit players that we can count on."

This is NOT the same coaching staff that won 4 straight championships. There are key differences, namely Gary DeLoach. We feel his absence in our recruiting efforts and defensive philosophy.

  3. Anyone watch the Colorado/Nebraska game? Security cleared out an entire student section. For what you ask? Throwing objects on the field! Next to LSU, Colorado fans are the most arrogant, obnoxious fans in the country. And I'm sure they were not throwing tortillas, but they were thrown out for throwing stuff on the field. You'd have to be Nolan Ryan to even come close to hitting our sidelines, but throwing crap from the stands is just a plain bad idea, and CAN have a detrimental effect!

Alright, fire away. Just make sure those torts aren't deep fried.

  4. I couldn't read all the posts in this thread b/c there is just not enough time in one day (Plum, did you write War and Peace?). But I want to add my two cents anyway.

I remember studying in a philosophy class that often the best time for change comes at a point when it it is most difficult to do so. For us that was 2 years ago. In other words, DD should be praised for bringing us this far, but it would have been best for everyone involved if he had already moved on. Cerebus once posted that if we had won the bowl game in '03 DD would have been offered a higher profile job. My thoughts then were that we are about to regress.

But that's past history. The question is: What do we do now? DD HAS earned the right to have a down year. But after next year what happens? A losing season equals dismissal by the admin. A winning season plus OOC wins and a bowl victory equals a bigger job offer (possibly). What happens if we sweep conference, lose OOC games and the NO bowl? It's a cycle I don't want repeated, but you can't fire a coach who takes you to a bowl, can you?. That, my friends, is when it is most difficult to change. And if RV fired DD after another one of those years, how much complaining would there be?

It's a viscous cycle. And it has to be broken! Plus I'd like to see the kind of coach RV would bring in. One of my fears is that DD will still be here long after RV leaves.

  5. Yeah, Trilli had good recruiting classes but forgot to coach them once they got here. He did come from the Tom Penders school of "Jack up a three, then don't play defense."

I'm looking for big things this year. I still have lots of left over green Kool-Aid from the footbal season. Anyone else?

  6. Tell your husband or wife how much you love them.  Hug your children.

I just got home from the scene of an officer I know dying as a result of some shit head with a gun.

And there are way too many idiots with guns. Keep your spirits up, brother. Know that what you do benefits mankind and makes this world a better place.

    My condolences.

  7. GGII,

I try to stay away from your posts (just a bit schizophrenic for my taste). Since it's part of my job to keep track of Texas football, I want to respond.

I think the key for Texas is that Vince gets GREAT protection. Their offensive line does a wonderful job.

WR Limus Sweed is a very good reciever, RB Ramonce Taylor is a star in the making, and the entire defense is simply put, a force. USC may be a better team, but Texas is so much more than just Vince Young.

  8. I don't know if you can use this to measure the strength of our Women's BB team, but they beat the Houston Jaguars 87-56, while the UT Longhorns WBB team got beat by that very same club. The horns team is young and don't look as good as in years past, but I take this as a huge positive. I remain coustiously optomistic.

  9. I'm reposting this b/c i think it's valid:

I'm trying real hard to stay out of Tortilla Gate, but bashing these particular fans seems out of whack to me. So let me add my 2 cents.

Fans have thrown tortillas for years. Like it or hate it, it's fact. If the administration wanted to change the rules they should have let the fans know in no uncertain terms that the throwing of torts will not be allowed. Just having security suddenly confront fans about torts is going to create some problems.

The admin should have been proactive in this. Say it. Repeat it. Repeat it again and again. In short: CYA!

Try this analogy: If you have been attending class and turning in assignments in blue ink, then half way through you start getting marks off b/c you aren't using black ink, you're going to be upset (of course we should all be using green ink). You have a legitimate complaint even if the syllabus says only turn in assignments in black ink.

The athletic dept. should have chosen a side on this long ago. Either embrace the "tradition" (I use that term loosley) or ban it and let it be known that it will not be tolerated! Don't just spring it on the fans. Just because we all see the draw play coming doesn't mean we are all mind readers!

For the record I'm anti tortilla tossing. Unless it's filled with fajita meat and tossed with a Shiner Bock behind it.

  11. So we are in a rebuilding year. I know it was inevitable we'd lose a conference game or two, or more, and we are rebuilding. Here's what I want to know. Are we rebuilding? Do we actually have the depth to think we can win our conference next year? I'm all for taking one on the chin if it means we learn, grow and move on. I want to know if we've recruited the talent to move us forward. Not just that, but do we have the coaches we need to achieve this goal?

I'm not saying we don't have those things in place. I just want honest feedback from fans with more expertise than me.

I'm Trying hard not to flame, but the green Kool-Aid is burning my gut.
