  1. I completely agree MeanGreenTexan, having more numbers on Benford will certainly help paint an even clearer picture.
  2. Sports-References uses a DRtg system: DRtg 2012: 26th of 344 DRtg 2009: 151st of 347
  3. Good point, if you add back Thompson and Overlander, only the 3P% changes and it is: 33% - 29%. 4% is significant, however I thought the numbers, minus outliers allowed a better look at overall team performance. And to be fair, the increase in turnovers would minimize any point advantage from the three-ball. To expand. If the 2012 team would have shot +4% better of three takens, the team would have scored an additional 54 points for the season. However, the 2009 team had 41 more turnovers that 2012 team. This difference in additional made 3's is washed away by the turnover margin (conservatively worth 41x1.5=61 points).
  4. Benford's team passes the "eye-ball" test for me, so I decided to look at the stats. Plus, who doesn't love an infographic!?
  5. The conclusions made from facial expressions is subjective. Out rebounding OU on the road 39-36 is not.
  6. You seem to have cited many subjective reasons, UNT90. I do not believe ANY player lacks confidence in Benford or that him pulling them from a game is him being mad. And how do you know what his panic face looks like? Also, do you not think out rebounding OU on the road speaks to "promising better rebounding"?
  7. I appreciate that KRAM1. I hadn't even considered people on the board "haters," I am confident the board is full of great guys and I know some IRL. And I have no problem being "brave" if for nothing else than to keep a UNT conversation going. Here's to a great season!
  8. That is a great point... someone needs to review the GMG.com rankings.
  9. I can't believe I have been karmically demoted from Sargeant to Captain in one day by simply being optimistic about our men. (sigh)
  10. I am fearful this team plays to its competition. what i want to see thursday is playing to our ability, not theirs.
  11. i think this is a done deal. http://college-football.si.com/2013/09/26/ea-sports-ncaa-football/ http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/23859383/ea-sports-no-ncaa-football-15-video-game-series-possibly-done
  12. i thought the boys played well. need to improve in turnovers and finishing plays, though.
  13. Despite my (significant) mistake on the original Jones/Benford years, I am amazed at the certainty of the future on this board.
  14. Your right, Billy, I did mess up, but I had season tickets last year and watched most games. This all to say, that I am giving Benford more time.
  15. Alright, lets try this again. From Jones to Benford we had 7 returners (Franklin, Holmen, Jones, Niko, Walton, Alzee, Jordan). Overall, total production went down. But if you just remove Walton numbers (which it appropriate because he didn't play), our scoring improved with Benford. We did lose in boards and assists, but I think if I spent time adjusting our Jones and Williams skewed average it would be really close.
  16. Dangit, my bad. I was looking at year over year on Sports-Reference about rosters. I knew something seemed off. Let me check the stats again. Stand by....
  17. I am not sure what "same players" you are talking about. From what I can tell, only 1 player under Jones has played under Benford (Holmen) and his production (stat wise) was higher under Benford. *NOTED ERROR HERE. Corrected below. Also, not sure what regression you are looking at. Thus far, (though small sample size) the returning players from last year (5 total) are averaging, collectively, 31.6 more points, 21.3 more rebounds, and 3.8 more assists per game thus far. This is in large part due to Chris, Jordan and Brandon missing so much. Also, Keith's contribution are up far more. Lastly, I will argue that using some conjecture, that we would have lost the Northwood game last year. This team, albeit sloppy, looks better than last year.
  18. I feel like I am alone in my optimism of this team and the fact that Benford should get more than one year before judgement. Last year he inherited 2 "stars" who didn't know how to make grades and, in my opinion, a cancer to the team. Not to say anything of the injuries. Why am I the only one with any patience, it seems?
  19. I like the line at 15. Might be able to beat that.
  20. Tonight should a be good game, I am expecting a competitive game as I get the feeling our team, unfortunately, plays to its competition.
  21. Also the largest crowd at Apogee on a November Saturday at 2:30 when NBC's Rick Mitchell promised 70 degrees and was completely wrong.
  22. I was at the game and Northwood played with a swagger I hadn't seen many times before. They were intense, confident, loose... all the things that create a massive problem for a better (albeit on paper) team. (see Florida Gulf Coast). We did look bad and shot poorly, and though Northwood stats don't look much better, they played much looser. They are a team in which you have to crush early, leaving them hang around was the worst thing to do because it clearly got to our guys' confidence. Interested to see what an OU team brings out of our guys. Even a crushing loss to OU could do great things for our team.
  23. I fundamentally disagree with the "bad win" stance. I do agree with ugly wins, which tonight was. Never-the-less, we were suppose to win and we did despite terrible shooting. I am still optimistic about the team and think that as we get use to new hand-check rules and chemistry grows with new players we can be competitive.
  24. is Friday's game an exhibition or does this one count? I might be the only person in the Mean Green Nation who is inclined to give ol' Tony more than one year to pass judgements. That being said, I have high expectations on this season.
  25. Love 18:00 to about 19:30. "You're out of excuses, not to be at Apogee."
