I am over the SMU game. That game sucked and A-MAC was the worst offender (side note: punter our MVP?) On to next week and I am thinking who would win in a game of Rice vs SMU? Whats the line?

The Ticket (1310/96.7fm) is broadcasting the game as well at the Hardline (a show on George's radio station) will be broadcasting from on the Pit from 3-7.

This is a slight exaggeration. He did get frustrated with in the paint offensive rebounds not going strong back up to the rim. Every time he put his hands up (which is did), he was yelling, "gotta go strong." IMHO, refs were not calling alot of contact on our inside shots and benford seemed to be frustrated that our players weren't really giving the ref's reason to call contact. he didn't get frustrated at any other shot all night; just the weak attempts in the paint.

I think the biggest problem with shooting early in the shot clock is that it, inherently, creates much more possessions for the opposition (make or miss). with our defense, size and the need to play zone I don't think Benford (or anyone) wants to give the opposition more possessions. Driving the the basket and shooting well at the line after many passes and looks for the best shot is a great offensive strategy given our current defense.

Attendance isn't terrible considering weather and start time. Silence isn't helped by zero student turnout.

42-30 half

Combs had a great block followed up with nasty rim rejection on his dunk. I'll let that one slide.

No Wesley from what I can tell.

No Wesley. 103-94 UNT 23.9 to go.

So we are down 85-77 with 2:39 and Andrew (the other one) walks out of the Pit. Coincidentally, we go on a run to send it to overtime. Huh.

I made an overlay awhile ago. -
y'all know I have been supporting benford in the board. save all the "what took so long" comments, but I am putting benford on watch. should have beat Tulane, period.

i think if someone just jumped into this thread on page 8 it would seem like an Andrew vs the board war going down. man oh man, hang there good buddy (and be smart with your battles). i saw great improvement tonight. i saw much to be worked on too (including training refs). also, IF what benford said is true about having players shot 100 free throws every practice, then i don't blame him on the FT last night. also, i think we have the depth to run harder, longer. i want to see the pedal down from tip to buzzer. let's see what happens tomorrow, yeah?!

Which team will step up in C-USA league play?

Good article. +1 for the link. -
thanks for your response. all food to be digested. you are right in some things. our half-court offense seems slow and there were times I wanted JW to drive or CJ to take the open jumper. (is coaching the reason JW is hesitant to drive? i take it you think so; and it could be) i think there is still some speculation (read: bias) in your accounts though like the subbing or rebound totals, but things like that will tell their own tale; no need for me to debate.

i mean this with absolute seriousness sincerity to help me understand your perspective: in what way did he look lost against UCR?

i am a reasonable man, just like KRAM and Andrew. if it becomes clear to me that Benford is the fault for poor performance, losses, etc than i won't hesitate saying such; i just haven't seen it yet. that isn't to say this is all the players fault either; it is simply to say the team is more capable than it appears to playing. the cause, in my opinion, is still being determined. i, unlike many, didn't make up my mind after season one and continue to seek evidence to substantiate any forgone conclusions. i hope we can all agree we want this team to play well, to represent our conference well and, most importantly, win. now, enough with the fodder... let's go mean green!
-
sorry if i implied its the players' fault; i simply don't know whose fault is the lack of keeping the pedal to the metal. not trying to place a blame, rather point out something i would like to see change and if changed i believe will help close out games better. SURPRISE!!! not all my posts are about exonerating benford.

i don't know where to find the stat, but i don't recall seeing in 5 man subs yesterday and certainly not subs every 2 minutes. he has definitely slowed down his subbing ritual. in terms of the game, it seems, in my opinion, our guys lack the killer instinct. at A&M when we were up 14 we kept pushing knowing no lead was big enough. what i saw yesterday when up by 14 was cruise control enabled. that has got to stop. i hope conference play changes that because its frustrating.
