  1. UNT is coming off a bye week. 2 weeks to focus on this Troy team. Thompson is expected to be back, and Jeremy Phillips should be ready to step back in, which will be helpful with the loss of Z. Orr.

Troy is really having a tough year. They're at home and of course, UNT is their homecoming game. They are still the defending conference champions and are always dangerous.

Give me UNT in a squeaker:

    UNT - 27

    Troy - 24

  2. I applaud North Texas for playing some tougher teams (Texas Tech, Texas, Mississippi State, LSU) but there are some others that are real cupcakes: St. Gregory (NAIA), UTA, Sam Houston State (Southland Conference), Jackson State, Grambling State (SWAC) and New Orleans (dropped to D-II).

Georgetown basketball under John Thompson Sr. got away with playing a “weak” non-conference schedule. I would like to see tougher teams than NAIA team, two Southland teams, two SWAC teams and a D-II team.

Good idea, but here are some questions for you...

Who would you like to replace these teams with?

Do you like home non-conference games, or would you prefer almost all non-conference games to be on the road?

With this young roster, are you ready to see 15+ losses if we remove these "weak" teams (assuming you want to replace them with "strong" teams)?

Have you been to a UNT/UTA game or UNT/SHSU game?

  3. To me young boys continually getting raped on school facilities and the university looking away and covering it up to me is a completely different level. The university actually facilitated this crime. I was not saying that the Penn State scandal is justified. Paying some players, giving them stuff, doctoring some grades etc...to me that stuff is petty. I am talking about that. Just be good and dont getting blatlantly caught. It's obvious the NCAA doesn't enforce against it very much. Again, I am not saying it is always right but in the grand scheme of things this is what you have to do if you want to become a big boy.

Again this Penn State stuff has reached a level I don't think we've ever seen before.

I think you would make a great ponzi schemer.

  4. I had the opportunity to watch this young man play earlier in the season when Lake Highlands played WT White. I remember commenting to my wife how big and athletic he was. The exciting thing is there are 3-4 more D-I caliber players on that Lake Highlands team. There is a defensive end tackle who also caught my eye as well as other positions...they have a lot of athletes! I got to experience the Lake Highlands feeder program because my son played Select ball with their team as a 7th grader last year. They have an impressive youth program there and some good coaches. Those kids learn how to run and tackle at a very young age. I would love to see UNT build a pipeline there as they will have a lot of good players for many years to come.

I love the size and quality of linemen Mac is bringing into this football program! This recruiting class is truly shaping up to be one of our best in a long, long time! GMG!

I guess we already have? John Shorter is from LH.

  5. Thanks for this...I was trying to remember the title of the Milgram experiment. I'm sure some will view this as defense...I'm assuming you're not intending it as such...rather just empirical data that tells us the human mind is one fascinating, albeit effed up, thing.

Nobody can say definitively what they would do in such a circumstance...what I can say with some certainty however is that every single possible scenario that could play out as the result of their actions/in-actions has played out in their minds over the years and as such JoePa and McQuery and anyone else with knowledge knew the potential consequence.

I wonder if he would be like me: I think my first reaction would be to go ballistic right then and there. But, I would have to calm myself down, and from there, who knows... but I just don't think I could just walk away from that scene. Ever.

  6. There are a lot of steps between "keeping the status quo" and borrowing $75 million you can't possibly pay back.

Who decides this? Wasn't it public perception that a $78 million stadium was a huge mistake for UNT?

    Did you read the story?

An excerpt: " The stadium funding has been structured to be at worst case revenue neutral. No student fees are necessary. UAB has already raised $15 million and sold 25 of 33 luxury boxes nine months before the 1st shovel was scheduled to contact earth. Land has been acquired, major concessions by the city of Birmingham attained..."

  7. Curley's not a law enforcement official. When you become aware of allegations of child sex abuse, you're required to report it to police or a child welfare agency.

This is the law in Texas. Although Paterno was clearly wrong and needs to step down immediately... apparently, this is not the law in PA. The law is to report it to a superior, who then reports it to authorities according to this story: Yahoo! sports story

This is sickening, and in my eyes 10 million times worse than selling athletic gear for tattoo money. This was happening WITHIN THE CONFINES of the football program. If the NCAA can suspend a USC team post-infraction for the Reggie Bush mess, SURELY they can do the same here...

There need to be some serious sanctions handed down here. Just gross.

  8. ...

Basically the BOT did the fiscally responsible thing and said no to 75 million that Uab could never ever get back in its current state. If Uab becomes even a respectible program I think they will revisit the stadium issue.

I'm so glad C. Dan and our board did not take this approach when the Apogee vote results hit their table...

Any moron knows that in order to be successful, you have to spend money. I'm sure the Alabama BOT are fully aware of this. So to me it sounds like they are knowingly resigning any expectations for UAB to be successful.
