  1. Vandy isnt a good job, yes 3 mill is a ton of money but Malzahn was in the middle of winning a national championship... Those dont happen to every year.. To him having a shot at winning a national championship was worth more than the job at a bottom tier SEC program

And he achieved this by taking the HC job at ARSt.?

  2. I really think a lot of yall dont know who Gus Malzahn is. This guy wrote the book on the hurry up offense Heres the book. The man is an offensive genius, he uses the refs as screens in his plays...

He was a HS coach back in 2001, its not like he came right out of HS like Dodge

This is an absolute great hire for stAte, but I dont know how long he'll be there... I dont know if hes committed to the program like Mac or if hes using this as a stepping stone.. Interesting to see who had a better first year with all there Sr. leaving, Mac or Malzahn

AR is home for Malzahn. I don't think he'd leave unless the Razorbacks came calling... look at the Vandy offer. If it were about money/prestige, he'd be building Vandy into an SEC contender.

Very Nice Hire for ARSt. The belt is getting better.

  3. Grand, my comments about the physicality of players from that part of the South was not a shot at Texas high school kids. It was more that I don't think people from Texas are quite aware of the incredible talent pools in the less populated states of the South. Go look at FBS and NFL rosters. Louisiana (2.49 per 1000), Florida (2.27 per 1000), Alabama (2.14 per 1000), and Georgia (1.98 per 1000) constantly have more players on those rosters per capita than anyone else, including Texas (1.84 per 1000) and Ohio (1.78 per 1000) which are talent rich states. It's intersting because it seems that the kids from the south do not have the multi-million dollar facilities at their high schools and the organization/structure or coaching that the kids from Texas have; yet there is a ton of raw talent down there; and all of that being said I am glad that Coach Mac is tapping into it. And I really like the Southern Miss comparision---agree 100%.

2.49 players out of every 1000 players in the NFL are from Louisiana? Out of every 1000?? Even if every state represented that well, you would only have 124 players. So 124 players out of every 1000 are from the United States? I knew there were some Samoans out there, but I didn't know there were THAT many.

  4. Romo has had his "No Tony no!" moments over the years but I am convinced that Romo is surrounded by a team that has a big bag of nothin for the most part. Guys on the team are 'just guys'. Again this goes back to Jerry over the years and what he's done to put talent on the field through the draft. I think the Cowboys need to draft gritty guys that play like pit bulls. There's a lot of style but not much substance. This past off season might have been the start of a starting over process and going young and emphasizing more of a rebuilding/retooling mantra but I am curious to see what they do this off season and how they draft.

Are you saying Romo is a diamond surrounded by poo-poo?

  5. Bring Mitchell off the bench for Jackson State...let the crowd get worked up into a frenzy then give him one hell of an introduction. Run the first play for T-Mitch...a down screen lob oop from CJ.

The walls of the Super Pit would crumble if this series of events took place. Eardrums would burst. Mass hysteria...and 2pts for the Mean Green (maybe a +1 because some poor schlub fouled T-Mitch in vain).

  6. I'll Try!

For 12/18 VS Jackson St. (and maybe even 12/20 VS Grambling):

    PG - C. Jones

    SG - A. Williams

    Swing - J. Williams

    PF - J. Holmen

    C - K. Hogans

I anticipate lots of minutes coming off the bench for Mitchell at PF and some swing. I feel sorry for whoever has to defend him at the swingman spot...

Keep in mind, he can't even practice (we talkin 'bout practice?) with the team until 12/18.

**Bold Prediction** During this game (or 2 games), Jordan Williams goes ballistic and cements himself into the starting lineup.

    For 12/22 VS LSU:

    PG - C. Jones

    SG - A. Williams

    Swing - J. Williams

    PF - T. Mitchell

    C - K. Hogans

With lots of Holmen to spell Jordan, and some Niko to spell Mitchell (along with sliding Holmen back PF as well to get Jordan back on the floor or Mitchell playing some swingman). It's crazy how deep we become simply by adding the best player in the conference. Having Holmen off the bench will be awesome.

I don't think we'll see much of Hogans and Edwards on the floor at the same time anymore (unless Mitchell is in foul trouble).

    GMG!

    SAMSONITE! I was way off...

  8. Defense was not an issue in this game. Harassing man defense held them to 50 points. They were turning the ball over like crazy and putting up some bad shots. Tucker is a baller. Weren't we in on him?

Offense was the issue for this game (as well as most others so far). Its almost like there's a lid on the hoop at times. Our guys are getting good looks, but shots are not falling unless they're coming out of the cool hand of Mr. Jones.

I'm still worried about J Williams. I want to see more out of him. He looks timid out there at times and his shot selection was not good in this game. His steal/Fast Break dunk was definitely the most exciting play though. The Super Pit was rowdy after that...

Walton has to start hitting his 3's at some point right? I know he can.

Niko is a very nice sparkplug off the bench. I wouldn't mind seeing him get more minutes, but I don't think I would start him over Holmen... yet.

That last charge that Ked took was the crux of the game. Hustle-wise, the Mean Green were on a different plane Sat. Particularly on the offensive boards.

So excited about Tony Mitchell Day! I'm hoping his addition breaks that "lid" off the basket and the Mean Green score in bunches for the remainder of the year while keeping up that insane defensive pressure.

  9. I don't think Mark Followill has any extra time to do UNT games during the Mavs season. So bring him in for football? Do you move Dunham over to color commentary after calling the games for years? It's nice to have Hank there commenting.

As for Hank, I bet he calls the basketball games because he wants to, not because it is a cost-saving maneuver. He's the Asst. AD. He can do what he wants.

  10. Is it really only 9 days tasty until T-Mitchell date? Is there anything you would recommend the average UNT basketball fan like myself do to prepare for the date? Some exercises or required reading? I want to be ready.

I don't think there's anything you can do that hasn't already been done.

Just show up, maybe grab some popcorn and a soda, and enjoy the show.

  11. What makes the NCAA BB tournament great is that the little guys have their shot and sometimes come through. A +1 or anything less than a sixteen team playoff system which first includes all conference winners is just another BCS in different clothing.

Exactly. Do you think Butler would even be INCLUDED in a BCS type scenario for college B-ball?

Imagine, the polls say OHSt. & Kansas are the best teams at the end of the year. They play each other for the national championship while several other high ranking AQ schools get paired up in 4 other meaningless games with good teams. Forget a team like UConn who finished 9th in their own conference with a .500 record! Make the standards incredibly hard for a Non-AQ team like Butler! Do you think March Madness would be anywhere near as cool? A Resounding No.

  12. Check out the age of Big 12 Coach of the Year, Bill Snyder, at Kansas State

Bill Snyder's situation is in no way comparable to coach McCarney's.

Bill Snyder built KState from the ground up a long time ago (hired when he was 50), became a legend, and has the stadium named after him. He retired for a while and KState football went in the toilet until they begged him to come back.

Coach McCarney is a good coach, and I'm glad he's here... a coup if you ask me... but he's not Bill Snyder (or he would still be at IASt.). When looking at prospective HC's, you have to factor in age, and McCarney is no spring chicken. Does that deter a program like COSt. from throwing gobs of money at McCarney? I dunno. Does it deter McCarney from taking that opportunity? Probably not.

  13. I don't know if his acceptance as Big 12 (interim) commissioner voided his contract with us or not. Chuck, personally, might not be able to act in our behalf but that might not apply to his firm. Of course, if we were trying to get into the Big 12 that would be a conflict of interest, with or without a valid contract.

I thought we paid him for a service?

His contract with UNT was fullfilled when he supplied a report to Rick V. and he now has no obligation to us.

  14. I know...it's just that when he speaks it's usually in that weird hip-hop "language" he and the "usual suspects" use and think they're so cool for it...I mean, half of what Quoner says makes absolutely no sense to me and I'm in my late 20s and listen to Black Star and Bell Biv DeVoe so I should be nearly fluent in Street. I can only imagine how difficult it is for someone of a previous generation. Must sound like total gibberish, really.

    This thread is Poi-sooonnnn.
