  1. 3-3 58 yds

You are correct, in garbage time against ULL, McNulty threw for those stats.

Let's not forget what Osborne did in garbage time against Tulsa!

    Osborn: 6-7 69yds 2TD

If we're using garbage time stats to back this up, then Osborne wins. There's not really an argument.

Now, McCarney has thrown out the "forcefield" answer of "Osborne not producing in practice like McNulty". If that's the reason, then we're forced to take it with a grain of salt, because as pointed out above, the gametime stats say otherwise.

  2. ...If I had not checked the board this morning, I would have no idea that the game time had changed. MGC member, club seat holder, and no notification of a time change to the game. How does that happen? I live three counties away and don't read the DRC . As of this writing, I have not received one email from the AD updating the game time. Not one. How many that don't read this board and don't live in Denton still don't know about the time change? It is homecoming, after all, the one game of the year where alumni are supposed to come back to the university. That email should have gone out to season ticket holders BEFORE any public announcement of a change in game time was made. Customer service and marketing 101...

This is probably the only part of all of this that really concerns me. I have yet to receive an email, or any other type of notification of the game time change either. There are a ton of fans that do not read/post on gmg.com, so hopefully they will get an email/text/something that will notify them of the time change.

This. Because the football game will be in the fourth quarter when the baseball game begins. The baseball fans were never coming to the game anyway.

We'll be lucky to get much more than 12,000. My kids will have plenty of room to run around the end zone again.

This, I'm not so sure about... I think some of the Rangers fans who previously decided not to attend will show up to the game now... they'll just leave around halftime, or midway through the 3rd quarter. They will count towards attendance and hopefully, they will have spent some money on concessions/gear. Of course, these are the folks that will need the notification from the A.D. regarding the time change.

Now, if the Mean Green make it interesting (I.E. don't blow out ULM so early :D ) maybe these folks will decide to stay and watch the remainder of the Mean Green win!

  3. We've had plans with the in-laws to go to the fair for the past month. They're driving in from West Texas to see us (mainly their grand-daughter) and go to the fair.

We were planning on leaving super early in the morning and leaving around 4:00, stopping back by our house to get them set up for the evening (re: free babysitting!), then driving over to the game. Hopefully we'll be there around halftime, but there's no way we can cancel our existing plans.

I'm sure there are tons of different stories out there. This must have been a tough decision for the A.D.

  4. Yea... that didn't come out right. Maybe the most interesting rather than favorite. I've always loved non-political American History and while their actions are tragically terrible, Gacy and his ilk make for fascinating study.

That sir, is just flat wrong!

  5. McNulty is the back up quarterback. Why is that so hard to understand?

Because he's not good and McCarney's staff recruited Osborne to come in and challenge Thompson for the starting spot... that's why.

We've still yet to see Osborne in any significant minutes. The only time we've seen him, he's outstanding... granted, it's garbage time and he's playing against 2nd-3rd string defenders.

  6. Listened to the game while at the State Fair...which pissed off my wife. Getting kids from ride to ride with one earplug in. Meh...what do you want from women?

Anyway, I was proud of the defensive effort, until...as I mentioned in my mid-season grade of the coaching staff...the fourth quarter meltdown.

At some point, this coaching staff has got to convince the team that football is a 60 minute game, not a 45 minute game.

Some thought it was overly harsh to bitch about letting Indiana and FAU back up in the fourth quarter. But, the truth is, the way you do things become habitual.

This team had a second half letdown against Houston after a close first half. It went close with what wil be the winner of the Sun Belt this year - and, on the road - until the fourth. It has almost coughed up leads in the two wins because of poor play in the fourth quarter.

Offensive problems aside, the object of a football game is to score more points than your opponent. For 45 minutes, our defense was more than giving us those opportunities. But, again, they laid down in the fourth.

I suspect the defense will be, "Well, the defense is worn out because the offense can't move the ball." Okay, so quit? A winning attitude says, "To hell with our offense, we'll go out and get this one until they can come around!"

I think Bowen has these guys about 3/4 of the way there. I'm waiting to see a complete game out of this unit, though. I hope it will be against ULM at homecoming.

(Just for the record, until we get a coach and/or offensive coordinator who understands what a fullback and tight end do, I have no hope for the offense. There are no playmakers on the offensive side of the ball this year.)

FINAL NOTE: I also noted being mystified by our kicking problems this year despite having a full time special teams coach. I admit it, I still don't get it. My guess is, he's got the kid overthinking things. If so, back off and let the kid do the routine that made him successful last year.

I counted three FG opportunities for us during the game. Two we bypassed and failed. The other was a miss. My philosophy is that you take points on the road. The kid has hit from 50+. The two bypassed efforts would have been well short of that range. Not happy about what is happening with the kicking. The decisions made at potential FG time were, in my opinion, not good coaching choices.

I bet they have this attitude, but this is certainly a valid excuse in my eyes. When your offense keeps going 3 & out, how on earth can the D stay rested to back up their attitude?

  7. Our offense is the product of a young underdeveloped offensive line.

    Plain and simple.

As far as the running game goes... you're absolutely right. But, I'm not so sure that it ends there my friend. DT is not looking good, and neither are the receivers.

When the talent around Lance is not producing, the defense can key on him all night long (which they did) and render him ineffective.

Let's just get back to Apogee where we beat teams that are on our level.

None of the remaining 3 teams on our home schedule scare me at all.

  8. Keep an eye on Alonzo Edwards!

    [/bit]

I agree. Didn't he have his knee scoped this offseason? I hope he's close to 100% this year.

I'm more anxious to see Alzee though. If healthy, and not rusty, he's our lock-down defender this year, and more than likely our starting PG (unless Jones just blows him away during practice this month).

  9. I think I heard someone say that starting this year we are going to win not one, not two, not three, but four Sun Belt Titles with this incoming class... let's not get ahead of ourselves, it's an exciting year for basketball but I am expecting some growing pains.

Are you comparing our incoming talent to that loser LeBron James? Put this team against the Miami Heat and JJ is accepting Spoelstra's forfeiture with 10 minutes remaining in the first half because the Heat's will to play the rest of the game will have already been crushed.

    Pass it!

  10. I want in on some of this synergy!

Who are Raymond Taylor, Greg Gantt, Augustine Rubit, Martavious Adams, JJ Thomas, or Chase Hallam? Bunch of scrubs if you ask me.

34-0 and a 2 seed (because we were cheated and the selection committee does not recognize our talent, coaching, or synergy) in the NCAA tournament.

Final Four appearance or J.J. needs to have jumper cables clipped to his ears and hooked to a car battery until the battery runs out of juice.

If you don't believe this is going to happen with our new talent and proven coaching, then you don't truly believe in the Mean Green.

If you're not with me, you're against me. :sword:

  11. I stick to my statement. You forgot to mention how badly we beat them in the SB tournament. We are the ones with a top 20 recruiting class. If this team is able to rapidly play in chemistry and injury-free, they'll win the SB tournament, trust me.

You forgot to mention that Tristan Thompson (now gone) had 36 points including setting a record going 20-20 from the line in that tourney game.

"Because we have highly regarded recruits coming in, we're going to win the SBC."

This is flawed logic, but there are numerous folks on the board who believe this.

I just hope these same folks dont turn on Chis Jones or Trey Norris when they turn the ball over a ton playing against D-1 competition this year, or Jordan Williams has a hard time finding a scoring stroke against D-1 defense.

Good greif folks, it's like you believe we're playing against ourselves! There are good teams in the SBC. There are going to be growing pains. Get ready.

Now, in no way, shape, or form am I saying we will not win the SBC. I think if Hogans stays healthy, the waivers ever come down for Franklin & Patton, Mitchell's impending eligibility comes true, and if Williams & Jones really excel in their development, we will have a great shot at the SBC crown! If we do win, I hope we get a shot at Vanderbilt wherever they are in the bracket. :D
