  1. Interestingly enough, our bowl package is less expensive than either TCU's bowl or the National Championship. Now I am not talking about the prestige factor, but simply in terms of location, I would rather spend a week in Hawaii than a week in Arizona or LA for the same price. You are right, not everybody is able to go but thank goodness after our long bowl drought we are not ending up in Ft. Worth or some other place like that. New Orleans would have been fun.
  2. If your team had not been to a bowl game in 25 years, you would not care how much it cost to go.
  3. Hope to have the local support but some of the UH fans are still mad about Coach Jones leaving...so it could go either way.
  4. Not to nitpick, but we are most likely going to the Hawaii Bowl.
  5. Marquis Frazier from Navarro signed with SMU today.
  6. The Big 12 generally gets more coverage than all of the metroplex schools combined. Fortunately, UT did not play this past weekend.
  7. Ouch...sorry to have struck such a nerve.... I'm not sure what a typical SMU xxxx is exactly....I think I'm just your average person for the most part...I have a family, I'm gainfully employed (my boss is a FL Gator not a Mustang) and I'm kind to children, animals and old people. I've attended almost every SMU game, home and away, since 1979. I have been to games at Ohio State, at Notre Dame, San Diego (Holiday Bowl), Hawaii (Aloha Bowl) and such exotic places as Hattisburg, Miss and Jonesboro, Arkansas so I think I've logged my share of the travel miles...not that it makes any difference... Guns Up, my friend....glad we were able to make your day.
  8. Good luck, Mean Green! It would be nice if neither of our programs sucked.
  9. I'm not trying to argue, just making an observation. I just found it odd that someone would make a big deal about how crappy SMU played instead of going to their own game. No more, no less.
  10. Yes and I also realize you made big bucks off your ass whippings.... I just think the "your team sucks worse than our team" thing is kind of funny...
  11. I'm pretty sure he didn't go for the benefit of SMU..lol...so, whatever...just thought it odd he would skip his own game...maybe he just wanted to get his guns up... I traveled to Lubbock for the game; however, many of our fans were stuck in Dallas because Love Field was closed on Saturday.
  12. Kind of funny you went to the SMU game and not the North Texas game. What a fan.
  13. SMU is not a good example. We had no choice---Ownby Stadium was old (1926) and tiny. From 1946 until the Death Penalty we played at the Cotton Bowl and then Texas Stadium. Ownby was renovated for our return after the DP but it was not an adequate on campus facility.
  14. His brother, QB at Southlake, has committed to SMU for next year. Might have something to do with it.
  15. Yes, we have that problem too, primarily with the students. So its definitely an issue. The CSC folks hassle them so much inside the stadium that many of them just don't go in. When I was in school many years ago, the drinking age was 18 so being drunk at the game was perfectly acceptable. In fact, we (somewhat) openly carried it into the stadium.
  16. Sounds fun, we do that as well but in the Spring for the Red/Blue scrimmage.
  17. Despite our record, the Boulevard always does well----all of the prime spots are sold. People enjoy the nice setting and the opportunity to be with friends and family.
  18. Honestly, it was not heavily promoted but they had a big response. No doubt due to the excitement over the hiring of Coach Jones. But we had about 500 last year which I thought was a nice crowd. I don't think we really make much money off of the luncheon---I am sure the Anatole is expensive---and there was a major donor/sponsor. I am sure any proceeds go to the athletic department.
  19. About twice the size as last year. I was there today and it was nicely done...a good time. What kind of "kick-off" party does UNT normally do?
  20. Under Phil Bennett, the SMU practices were closed. In fact, he had a big blue tarp put up around the practice field fence to block the view. One of the first things that Coach Jones did was take down the blue tarp and welcome the alums to come watch. Its nice when you just can't wait for football season to get here to at least be able to go watch practice.
  21. No, we have 13 so far.
  22. Whew...I'll sleep better tonight knowing the real truth.
