How neat !!! Thanks for finding it and sharing it with all of us. Joe is a good guy and was one heck of a football player.

Coach Ford is a good man who was just not prepared to be a defensive coach at the college level when he came to North Texas. I wish him nothing but the best for his future.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch..........could we remember to say "Thank You" to UNT86 for providing the information that a lot of people were wanting ? Yes, it is unfortunate that he had to make a call to the ticket office to get that date, but he did make that effort. Nobody else did, now did they ?

There will be a bunch of old fossils hitting YouTube tonight so that we can listen to them again. I know that I will.

Any of you other old codgers remember the Texas Pickup café that was located near West Hall? They had an offering called the Redneck Mother Cheeseburger that you could get with cheese fries. It was sure good but my cholesterol level went up by two points just because I typed this .

To quote Nancy Reagan the NCAA should "just say no" to the Big 12. Everyone wants folks to make an exception to the rules for them. This is no different. The rule is that if you want a playoff game you have to have 12 teams. I can think of no reason why the Big 12 should be an exception to this rule. Either add two teams or learn to live with the consequences.

Well, heck !! I was hoping that it was the return of Diet Coke Boy. We won a bunch of games when that guy was here.

I am glad to hear that Scotty Conley stayed in that position. He knows a ton of people in the state and I believe has done a good job in years past.

For all of the bitching that we do about Rick V - and much of it is legitimate - he at least made our coaching change early enough that we have a head coach and a staff on the ground running and recruiting a month prior to National Signing Day. That is sure not the case for our friends at Texas State or UT- San Antonio.

I agree with Greenjoe. If Diet Coke Boy had been present they would have won by two touchdowns.

Thanks for the update Brett. I was going off of information that I read last night. I appreciate your straightening me out. You obviously spoke to him and my wife limits my telephone calls to UNT recruiting targets.

Over on the Recruiting board this was discussed earlier. The Yahoo.com page for him lists him as a December graduate. My interpretation of this is that he would then be eligible to enroll at North Texas if he meets the entrance requirements. Let's hope that he is able to enroll AND is eligible to go through Spring workouts. We don't want to get caught in a situation like we did with our quarterback.......eligible to go to school but not to practice.

One of those web sites lists him as a December graduate. That would allow him to enroll at UNT for the Spring semester and let him go through Spring football. If he is going to contribute next Fall the Spring workouts are really important.

Been there..........Done that..........It sucked. Many years ago we played people like UTA and Oklahoma State in The Cotton Bowl during the State Fair or after. Attendance was terrible and the experience was the pits. I don't always agree with Rick V but he got this one right.

Our daughter went to the Target store in Highland Village yesterday and reported that they had a huge UNT selection. She moved some Aggies stuff behind some additional UNT stuff just to show her true Christmas spirit.

I have questions for those of you who know a LOT more about recruiting than I do. I understand that we can only have 85 players on scholarship and only give out 25 scholarships per year. My understanding is that the 85 number is set in concrete but there is some room to work with the 25. Our staff got a late start in recruiting for this year. If they do not find 25 players that they believe will help us to get to where we want to be can they stick a couple of those scholarships in their pocket then use them next December to pick up a junior college player or two or get an early enrollment from a high school kid ? If that is a possibility, do you think it is a good idea based on how quickly National Signing Day is from now ?

Does this guy have any Texas connections ? Recruiting in Texas is all about relationships. I just wondered if this gentleman has any.

He seems to be a sharp young man on his way up. We need that type of coach here. By the way, when Todd Dodge was hired I thought it was a mistake due to his lack of experience at the college level. When Dan McCarney was hired I thought it was a good hire due to his experience as a head coach at the college level. So much for my thoughts.........

There is a saying in high school football that what works on Thursday night (jv games) doesn't work on Friday night (varsity games). You could also say that what works on Friday night does not work on Saturday night. Todd Dodge thought that he could bring his high school schemes and coaches to the college level and be successful. Well, we all know how that turned out don't we ?

A story on the internet this morning (Saturday) says that this trip was successful and that Coach Gilbert is heading for Austin. If he does not right that ship he will be on the market again this time next year.

That was really well done. We grumble when the athletic department fouls up something. We should compliment them when they get something right. This was one of the 'get something right' things.

I liked Darrell Dickey and enjoyed watching his teams play. I am also glad that he is doing well.

I enjoyed watching his teams play and liked the man personally. I wish him only the best if he gets the job there.

The first thing he will have to do is to recruit some better players. That takes relationships with the coaches of the State of Texas. If he does not have that, the level of experience as a player won't matter.
