- I'll go with Mitchell
- Fry
- Dickey
- Rust
- Nelson
I missed the Rod Rust years but was lucky enough to see the teams coached by the others.

Just curious, if there is enough separation in quarterback performance to give you concern if the starter goes down, who are you expecting to get the QB start this year?
I am not sure if there is anyone other than Fine that has ever taken a snap in a college football game so my guess is that he would be our starter. I am guessing that Shanbour would be our next in line. He may turn out to be great but is a total unknown to me at this point.

I don't think this team has enough talent to win seven games. If our quarterback and/or running back go down it could get really ugly. If those are my only two choices I will go with the lower number but I really think it will be about 5-7 again.

I would have to include the late Barnard Jackson.
A few of us old guys remember him. He played two years for Hayden Fry (I think) and his final year for Jerry Moore. He was a good one.

I have not seen this posted anywhere else so will add it here. The UNT athletic department web site now shows that the Iowa game will be telecast on ESPN 2. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 PM on Saturday, September 16. While that is not the game that I would prefer for a national telecast let's hope the team plays well and gets some good publicity for the program.

Here is what Wikipedia says about the naming rights deal. While my memory is pretty foggy I remember the naming rights deal was a combination of cash and "in kind" contrubutions from Apogee.
On August 11, 2011, UNT announced a deal with Austin-based ResNet provider Apogee for the naming rights to the new stadium, and the name was changed to "Apogee Stadium".[35] According to the contract, Apogee will pay $11.8 million of the $20 million deal in cash over 20 years, including graduated annual payments beginning at $312,000 and ending in three payments of $1 million. The remaining $8.29 million will be in the form of in-kind services. As part of the contract, Apogee also received one luxury suite in the new stadium and premium tickets to other UNT events.[36]

There are a lot of things that Conference USA needs but Liberty University is not one of them.

Safety for players has come so far in the past few years. That is good to see.

Last night (Thursday) was the Caravan stop in Ft. Worth. Could we get a report from anyone who attended ? How many were present, which coaches were there, and was there any new information presented ?

Kram I have been a season ticket holder since 1972 and a Mean Club member since 1973 and have gone to a bunch of these meetings. This year I will be unable to attend any of them. Do you mind telling us what Mr. Baker said about scheduling Liberty? I do not understand why we did that but would love to know.

Somewhere in the cobwebs of my mind I seem to recall that graduate transfers like this count as one of your allowed 85 scholarships but do not count as one of the 25 scholarships that you are allowed in any one given year. Some of you other fellows keep up with this a lot closer than I do. Please correct me if I am wrong. If that is the case, it sure makes a decision on this player a lot easier.

The only positive that I can see about playing or having a scrimmage at The Star would be that it would attract people who go to the event just to see the facility. We might expose some people to North Texas football who otherwise would not ever see a scrimmage or a game.

It will only be fun if the recruits that we announce are worth a flip. If not, you could have the cast of Saturday Night Live on there and it would not be fun for most of us.

I don't care how good you are with the x's and o's because if the guy across the field from you has better players it is going to be tough to win. It appears that we are losing a lot of recruiting battles which often results in losing games at a later date.

I just finished reading this book and it should be required reading for any college football fan in Texas - especially North Texas fans. I arrived at North Texas State College in the Fall of 1960 so I missed the 1959 Sun Bowl team but many of the younger players and all of the coaches were there. I got to know a bunch of them. Our world is far from perfect today but it is so much better for many people than it was back then. We still have work to do but a lot of progress has been made. Find a way to pick up a copy of this book. It is worth your time and dollars to get it.

After reading this I checked on the Amazon web site and got it for my Kindle. Thanks for the information.

Will he be here for Spring football ?

Thanks GOMG2013. That is good to know.

If we go to the Bahamas Bowl each of our players and coaches will need a passport. I just wonder if our previous administration - RV and the gang - had enough foresight to get a passport for each of them. Coming off of a 1-11 season I am not sure that I would have had it at the top of my To Do List but maybe they did.

It is a great story. If you haven't read it, please take a minute and do so.

The parade is a really neat event. Our family has seen it several times. It is followed by the lighting of the big Christmas tree in Sundance Square. I am glad to know that the UNT entry will be there this time. That will make it even better.

It will be on Fox Sports Southwest Plus. Not everyone gets this, but for those who do, it will be shown.

To quote the old Wendy's commercial "Where's the Beef?" These fast little wide receivers are great but unless we can do a better job of protecting the quarterback they won't be able to do their jobs very well.

While watching the pre-game warm up it looked like there were a bunch of high school aged guys on the sidelines near the North Texas bench. I have no idea who they were but there were a bunch of them.
DRC: A look back on the top five coaches in UNT history

GrandGreen posted a pretty impressive list. I would slide Matt Simon in there in the place of Dickey. Simon's attitude made Dickey's look absolutely sunny and bright. His constant snide comments about coaching in "Denton, America" got really old.
