really all this makes me think about is how ESG consideration...or "Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance"...considerations in large-firm investment strategies has major long-term economic benefits for investors and that our great 46th President, Joe Biden, was right to veto H.R. 1187...and that naturally republicans would just yell their favorite dog-whistle, "woke", into the void of the things that scare them, make them reconsider their world view or simply don't understand.

    thoughts?

    Is this so?

I don’t want to make this into politics but there are more people that are sports fans than not so I don’t think that being a “liberal” city matters when it comes to fan support

Because it's not a culture that supports athletics. Guys with painted nails and face tattoos playing their guitars while sitting crisscross apple sauce all the while asking me for my restaurant leftovers is bad culture. Some people would call that simply culture. But those people are dumb. I call them eyesores and Denton is rapidly growing with them. Rapidly.

We have too many liberal arts students in a liberal arts city. Again, NS is trying to inhibit change. But it's a strong rip tide.

Interesting. Well you can’t tell me Austin has a better sports culture, it’s a vastly more liberal city than Denton. Bottom line, like I always say, North Texas doesn’t win enough and doesn’t capture the attention of a lot of people. Until they do “it is what it is”

Too many things to list, but it was sad when we had an away game and some bars didn’t even have the game on…let alone didn’t know we even had a game that day.

Well…the crappy CUSA media rights doesn’t help. Eastside always has the game on. Denton county is a big county with alums from all over. North Texas can’t capture market share if they’re not consistently winning. Business owners want to make money they’re not a charity.

Not going to lie, I'd have preferred we bought a 7th home game. But at least we signed on for a likely win. Since we'll be playing a tougher schedule in the AAC, this game might just get UNT bowl eligible next season.

At first look…FIU is a boring matchup but going into the first year in the AAC with a new coaching staff, probably a good idea to not run the gauntlet.

Yeah you hate it because it displays diversity and an accepting environment that goes against everything Texas stands for.

No. It’s portrays the university like it’s a place to screw around. Tier one research university…good point followed up with 2nd best school food?! Nothing is mentioned about being a Hispanic serving institution or one of the best schools for veterans. But yeah we got the 2nd best food.

We have excellent colors, logos, and branding.

The problem is that we let too many people jack with them.

We allowed a Branding Director to leave TERTIARY COLOR ONLY for black off our branding web site because she was a fat girl that liked wearing black. Black IS APPROVED FOR OUTLINES AND FOR MONOCHROMATIC PRINTED ITEMS ONLY.

We HAVE a correct green, Pantone 356. It's Kelly Green, also known as Irish Green, the exact same shade of Green that Nike uses for all Marshall and Oregon uniforms and staffing gear. (Our staff likes to pretend that Nike doesn't make it)

Neon Green is also approved for "alternate" uniform colors per documentation approved by our Board of Regents, brown, gray, lavender, and black are not.

Yea I’m aware of that. We’ve also had forest green for some reason in the early 2000s and sometimes it’s still used. What I’m saying is put some money into making a green color that is trademarked and only used for the University. So many different shades of green out there. It’s maddening.

New coach, new era...time for a rebranding of our football program.  Using UCF as a model, I'd like to see us go with and use UNT over North Texas.  I know this is somewhat controversial, but I'm tired of seeing multiple representations (North Texas, N. Texas, North Tex., Nor. Texas or the worst No Texas in all the sports tickers) of our school. Talk about destroying your brand.  Yes, there are examples of universities that have been able to overcome their directional name, but to the great unwashed we are no different than Southern New Hampshire.  UCF has avoided it completely.  The younger generation usually refers to UNT as the school they go/went to.  We should embrace that.

While we are at it, we need to get rid of the awful eagle feathers helmet logo or any logo that utilizes an outline/map of the state.  Put a little Texas outline on the back or something, but not as part of the primary logo.  It reeks of desperation.

Agree with not using a Texas outline on uniforms. Hate it and unoriginal, when I say what school I went to I always say North Texas. I agree UNT flows better but outside of the DFW area no one knows that that is.

It does exist for North Texas, but...

The athletics department treats that information much the same way a dog treats a fire hydrant.

image.thumb.jpeg.cf5fa0184a31c5c41334610442d404dc.jpegSchool colors as approved by North Texas Board of Regents

Our school colors are Green and White as selected by the student body in 1904. Since 2006 black is approved only as a tertiary color for outlining green or white logos and is only permitted for logos printed on monochromatic documents where green is not an option. Any deviation from this format is a violation of university policy.

Other schools strictly adhere to their university colors and their branding is immediately recognizable. We don't, and for the last decade we have wound up with a hodgepodge of colors and throwback logos. Basically, despite athletic success our branding has gone to shit in the last decade. Our university's identity is aligned with a color more than just about any school in the country yet we have allowed athletics staff and teams to continually utilize other colors not representative of our school simply because they're "fashionable" and "they personallly like them better".

This same sneaky little shit was previously done 1995-2005 by unofficially adding blue and copper as accent colors. Those colors were also equally horrible but they didn't spill into uniforms and fan gear the way gray and black have.

North Texas Mean Green Logo and symbol, meaning, history, PNG, brand

I hate that there are so many different greens out there. My question off of your point is how hard would it be to get a distinct green color to be used across the board. Lots of schools do it and yet here we are a school identified by a color and we haven’t established which shade of green to use.

also I remember that logo. I hated it then and I hate it now. Love the post.

I’m not touching the race or political topics you put out but I will say that having Tyreke Davis star for us for several years didn’t seem to move the needle in keeping Denton kids home. And we beat out the Mountain West’s Fresno State for his services, not FCS UIW.

Critique the new coach in the same metrics you criticized Littrell. If beating out FCS for a player didn’t impress you under Littrell, it shouldn’t impress you under Morris. If beating out FCS for a player made you angry with Littrell, you should be angry with Morris too.

    Well said
