The ACC didn't act on Wednesday, so there is real debate if they will expand with Stanford, Cal, and SMU.

The AAC jumps in a says we'll take al 4, but so will MWC.  So which media deal is better the AAC's or MWC and how does the travel cost change with  a regional foot print vs a national one?

Very interesting…pick the MWC for reasonable regional schedule, but less money and academics that I would say in their eyes, below their standards. Pick the AAC and get a problematic national schedule, but more money and schools within the conference on par somewhat to what they’re used to.

They are about to face the reality that UNT UTSA FAU UAB and Rice are about to start beating them in the major sports 🏈 🏀. Tulane already does, ECU probably will, it’s a sobering internal struggle. Yet they lash out at the conference quality. It’s one of the wildest cases of wtf I’ve ever seen.

They should go Indy to save the embarrassment to come. They can create their own schedule and whine to the clouds.

I wonder the bigger these conferences become and the adding of a 10th conference game if it’s going to be harder for independents to stay independent. Time will tell I suppose

If you’re one of the Pac 4 (specifically Stanford) what’s better for recruiting?

Being independent? Or being in a conference with perceived lesser schools?

Where are recruits going to watch games? That’s one of the reasons the Apple deal was a non starter…tough to tell a recruit watch our games on Apple when they don’t have a subscription 😅

A little worried this could all go south real quick. I still find it hard to believe two things, though:

    1. Teams are willing to join a PAC with no TV/streaming deal in hand. Are they thinking they will get a better deal than the American currently has?
    2. They would join a conference that seems to be $50 million in debt and has George Kliavkoff as its commissioner.

We might end up with a merger between the MWC and AAC left-behinds. Whatever happens, I have faith in Mike Aresco.

Thank you. Those are the two biggest reasons why the PAC is dead…why it would be insane to join the PAC now, the PAC has no leverage.

    Never year?

You are right there is no autonomy status if there is no conference.  Thats why you invite 6 MWC members, have them strike down exit fees in the MWC, leave the MWC, join the PAC.

Then there is a PAC with autonomy status.

The MWC then has to scramble for survival.

Why would any MWC institution pay 34 million dollars in exit fees to go to a conference with no GOR deal? Or want to be part of a George Kliavkoff run conference, that guy just ran the conference into the ground and you’re saying the presidents are going to vote to leave a stable conference for a once that is in complete flux? Far fetched. The PAC is over, the MWC has the leverage here.

I wish I was as optimistic as most on this board, but I don’t see how this is good for the MWC or AAC.  The PAC 12 brand has value, and presents the opportunity for the four remaining schools to align with the best academic schools in both the MWC and AAC.  What I see possibly happening is this.

California, Stanford, OSU, WSU, San Diego State, Air Force, CSU, SMU, Rice, and Tulane.  That’s 10 to settle things down and a start.  They could add a couple more now or later.  CSU and Air Force get games in the central time zone and in Texas, which they’re on record as wanting.

The name means nothing, it’s over. It’s always been about the schools within the conference, once USC and UCLA left it was over.

Zach Ballard writing for SB Nation suggested that Mountain West would dissolve, with six stronger programs (AF, Boise, Colo State, Fresno, SDSU, and UNLV) joining the Pac 12 remnants. The problem would be getting nine votes to dissolve with six of the twelve left hanging.

Why would they do that? That makes no sense the PAC has no GOR deal, the MWC does. Those schools would be shooting them selves in the foot. Sounds like “trust me bro” journalism

No way the new PAC media deal remotely gets to 25 million much less 30 million per school. They all know the numbers and they’ve known for a while. That’s why Colorado left, they knew it was going to be 20 million with no linear option. The rest are just waiting for official numbers.

Well the big boys in the pac 10 will be looking for new homes.  The new deal is 20 million per school which will be down from 33.6 million per school.  The big 12 pays their schools 38 million a year.   The big 10 pays 54.3 million a school.  You have to think the Oregons, Washington's Arizona and Utah are looking for a new conference.

Since SMU and SDSU are leading candidates for the jump they will will get more money leaving the AAC so they will be gone as well.  So this about to get real interesting and not a good way for us.  I look for a MWC leftovers and AAC left overs to become one league.   The mwc pays out about 4 million a year. The AAC pays about 7 million a year to its teams.

By the way the ACC pays it member 30.9-37 million per team and the big east 10-14 million per team. CUSA pay out is 400-500k a team.  These numbers are rough estimates.  I checked several sources and the numbers are a bit different on each source.

It is all about the money and we will be one of the teams on the outside looking in. They need to do revenue sharing in college football but we know the big boys wont do that.

So SMU leaves we no longer play them or the old deal still in play?

SMU and SDSU are not going anywhere.

It was poor Administration confidence.  How would viewers know who we were? (without having to spell it out)

We were starting to get more TV exposure, with the Bowls, and Cable channels picking up some Big West and Sun Belt games.   RV thought we needed "North Texas" on everything, especially helmets.

It was also a transition away from the Helwig mid-1990's era of green, navy, and burnt orange Eagle logos (likewise awful)...

    No, for several reasons...

We just paid millions to get into the AAC.  I believe that we would lose our entrance fee and possibly have to pay an exit fee.

The Mountain West would still be considered a lesser conference.  In addition we would have to pay another entrance fee for the MWC.

In my opinion, the AAC has the best commissioner of all the G5s.  That means we'll likely get the best advertising of the G5s and the largest payout because we are in larger markets.

The MWC is likely to lose its best franchise, San Diego State, to the PAC12.  That would drop its appeal as much as it can be hurt.

Other than UTSA our closest MWC member would be New Mexico or Air Force.  Much more travel expense!

The AAC will get the first G5 spot in the playoffs.  That's already been established.

Finally, we are busy now putting the new American emblem on courts, fields, uniforms, etc. and are too far into it to back out now.

Lastly, I don't see how the MWC will ever be an advantage for us.

Boise State man….you’re putting SDSU over Boise State as their biggest brand? TCU made the MWC work so you can’t say a Texas school wouldn’t do well but then again we sure as heck aren’t TCU.
