  1. More flies with honey than vinegar... Seriously, lighten up. Sounds like ya'll hate Talons more than SMU. Didn't think god's gift to North Texas had to be asked... So, I guess it would be good to update the Pledge/new member book to label events either BEE (before Emmitt era) or AEE (after Emmitt era). Just kidding folks, I've known Emmitt since he was a pledge/new member to Talons. I've also known many other folks in Talons that have busted their beind to make things happen that never get recognition or thanks. Folks who made sure cannon crew was there, folks who rebuild the Model-A, folks who found opportunity at freshman-o, folks who kept bonfire going, folks who genuinely loved North Texas and put their hearts into what tasks they could. I'm sure there have been some bad apples too. Remember, it's a volunteer effort, and not everyone who volunteers is there for the right reason.
  2. Little know fact: the organization was knows as "Emmitt and the Talons" during the late 90's and early '00. It was was made up of Emmitt, the old guy, a blonde skinny white guy with a tape worm, a philippino guy, a tiny girl with big balls, a yankee cowboy, a weird kid from Waco, and many others equally "unique". I think time has made our effors more glorified than they really were, but I won't complain.
  3. Ha! Those were my years of providing "a continuous atmosphere of sprit and service." Folks who may have a less than favorable opinion of said organization should remember that with every new semester is an opportunity for new blood. Can anyone fill us on how involved Talons has been in freshman orientation? Those were fun times in my day! I'm curious if the SMU game was heavily promoted over the summer to the droves of untainted minds.
  4. I hung my green and white Texas flag this morning in my office here on the campus of texas university. My two coworkers (not real sports fans) gave me a little heat, almost as a courtesy. I'm excited to see my Mean Green cousins down here in Austin, I hope everyone has a great time. And remember the that great little disclaimer in out fight song: "Victory's in store whatever the score" And forget not, that UT has been working on the railroad all the live long day... and someone blows a horn or something...
  5. Also, for any of you State of Texas employees (which includes state universities), remember you get a discount at La Quinta. Just show your agency ID if they ask for it.

  7. Since changing departments last August, starting grad school in spring, continuing my freelance work, and the less than perfect season last year, I've been off the board and sober of the green kool-aid since last December. Is any kind soul willing to sumarize the past eight months for me? I know our logos are getting kind of old (over a year) have they changed again?
  8. I'm a big Mean Green fan down here in the live music capitol of the world and have been employed for over four years at a certain state university just three blocks north of the capitol. In two weeks, I will start my very first graduate class at this same institution. With all this Rose Bowl hoopla, e-mails are going around the office saying it would be okie-dokie to wear burnt orange tomorrow. The Mean Green fan I am, I don't have a t.u. shirt. Heck, I've returned a shirt because it too closely resembled burnt orange. Is it time I buy one? Am I becoming a Longhorn?
  9. Same here. What better use of vacation time is there? Leaving Austin around noon.
  10. BFA in Communication Design (translates as Graphic Design/Art Direction) Minor in Advertising (Journalism Department) Graduated December 2000 I work as a full-time Web designer for Employee and Campus Services at UT Austin. Currently assigned seven Web sites that all need a redesign for aesthetic and accessibility reasons. My coworker is also a UNT graduate. After hours, I do freelance graphic and Web design by word of mouth. After those hours, I am trying to get into grad school for Information Architecture at UT’s School of Information. I get three hours free tuition each semester. I’m very happy with my job, salary, and living in Austin.
  11. Austin If you can't call in sick to work on Tuesday to make the drive to Denton, have no fear — the Austin Chapter is hosting a watching party to see the Mean Green play Troy at Legends. Legends is attached to the Holiday Inn Northwest (out back).
  12. Productivity down 80% today. Some department wants a website redesigned or something. Oh well. Dang longhorns. Thank you GoMeanGreen.com
  13. I'm up for that. As long as I get to eat at Prejeans (pron. Pray-jons)
  14. Agreed. I can send you an AI/EPS of the file I "designed"
  15. My point also. If I could design my own, it would look like this:
  16. Small roadtrip from Austin and picking up my 14-year-old nephew in Waco.
  17. Got mine today down here in Longhorn land. Can't wait for the Tulsa game! Section F, Row 37. Though I still prefer to sit on the student side.
  18. I called Legends today and they do carry ESPN GamePlan. They couldn't confirm 100%, but it is likely folks could catch the game there. Gang, PM me the details of your tailgate. What can I bring? For folks interested in meeting at Legends, see the map:
  19. I may take you up on it too. I'll call around Austin to see if anyone does PPV, but I doubt it. Thanks for offering!
  20. Is anyone familiar with any kind of bus/transit route that goes from Dallas to Denton? See message below: Yes, I know — she should have went to North Texas in the first place.
  21. So here's the USPS logo: And here's our Eagle head logo: And here they are combined. Hmmm....
  22. Read the article here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8523472/ and http://seminoles.collegesports.com/ I can speak from very personal experience about the seriousness of Lyme disease. This young man is very lucky to have been diagnosed. Most doctors know very little about this disease. If you do not have the "typical" symptoms of Lyme disease (bulls-eye rash and/or arthritic conditions) you are SOL. My wife has Lyme disease. Here is my experience: What are Lyme symptoms? Open a medical dictionary and pick one. My wife has more neurological symptoms including myoclonus (involuntary jerking), blurred vision, fatigue, sensitivity to light, sound, and smell, plus many more. Other patients have arthritic symptoms. Plus, the antibiotics you take cause a lot of their own symptoms you have to counter with supplements. My wife takes over 20 pills daily. How do you get Lyme? Usually ticks. It's heavy in the northeast and California, but is spread across most of the U.S. Most people who have Lyme don't recall being bit by a tick. Is there a test for Lyme? Yes. Several. Most are highy inaccurate (as stated by the Center for Disease Control) or are poorly interpreted. Doctors aren't that dumb, are they? My wife only had to go through 14 doctors over 4 1/2 years to get a diagnosis. Some have seen 20-30 doctors before diagnosis. The average seems to be 12 doctors. Others refered her to a psychiatrist. We've learned that if a doctor can't find a reason why you're ill, you must be crazy. So how do you find a LLD (lyme-literade Doctor) Luck. Austin has a Lyme specialist. We know of about 2 other doctors in Texas with an understanding of Lyme — that's 3 total. Most LLDs are no longer taking patients because of the demand and most don't take health insurance because health insurance companies believe that Lyme treatment should only last a few weeks or months. Late stage Lyme may require long periods of heavy, rotating combinations of antibiotics. Doctors brave enough to take health insurance will undergo investigation by the state board because health insurance companies have so much power. Wow, is your wife okay? As bad as having Lyme is, I cannot express to you how lucky we are: - We are seeing a LLD who is no longer seeing new patients. - The LLD takes my health insurance (a big reason I'm still working at UT) - We are about 8 months into the average 18-month treatment. - My wife has been responding very well to oral antibiotics. Many patients have to move to IM or IV injections. - We're finacially stable. My salary is enough to keep the both of us afloat. My wife is too fatigued to work. 23. I would reccomend contacting Amy R. Ayres, Director of Student Activities and Organizations. Phone: (940) 565-4413 Email: aayres@unt.edu She falls under the Dean of Students Department and they may be able to help out in purchasing shirts and could recruit organizations to sell the shirts. Otherwise, is there a local business that would be interested in sponsoring the shirt? Rudy's, Roadhouse, Riprocks/etc.? I would promote Tulsa.
  24. Note that many TCU fans seem to order this plate: I've seen many cars with this plate sport a TCU sticker.
  25. The timing of this post is incredible — I'm on the verge of ordering new plates and saw 2 cars in Austin the past two days with UNT plates (with the older eagle head and "UNT" below). I guess I might as well wait for the USPS logo version before ordering. This is the current release:
