Bowls should not even be a focus.  This team still is in the hunt for the conference championship.  WKU away is a big assignment, but if the defense keeps playing as they have and the offense gets a little better; winning the West is far from impossible.

    I agree

This team and coaching staff have been working their ass off changing this program around. We can beat any of these 5 teams that are left on the schedule and not have to sit here and settle for "hitsix, Bahamas Bowl...oh I'm a little worried so I'm going to write a long blog about it" Let's take it week by week and let's aim to win the whole damn thing! If we win this Saturday against UTSA, we better packed the game with loud ass fans against LA Tech for Homecoming.

IF Littrell and company can pull off the W against Army it would change a very concerning historical trend in North Texas football.  If Littrell wins at Army it would be only the SECOND time in 12 YEARS we have won two or more games in a row.

If you look at UNT history, or more recent history in D-I/FBS football, consistency is a problem that has continued to plague the program.

So far, in this 3-3 season we have seen North Texas win a game and follow it with a loss.   This hurts your ability to build on your reputation and success, fan support, attendance etc.

Last season 2015 we only won one game against UTSA.

In 2014 - we won 4 games and did not have one consecutive win.

2013 was the outlier, where Mac was able to put together 5 straight wins, albeit late in the season against what some say was a watered-down C-USA slate.  Even then, when given the chance to catapult the program with a C-USA Championship game spot, UNT fell to UTSA at home to end the winning streak at a very critical time.

In 2012 -- In a 4-win season, we did not have a win in consecutive weeks.

In 2011 -- We won 5-games and did not have a win in consecutive weeks.

In 2010 --- We won 3-games and did not have a win in consecutive weeks.

In 2009 -- We won 2-games and did not have a win in consecutive weeks.

    In 2008 -- We won 1 game.

In 2007 -- We won 2 games and did not have a win in consecutive weeks.

In 2006 -- We won 3 games and did not have a win in consecutive weeks.

In 2005 -- We won 2 games and did not have a win in consecutive weeks.

2004 was the last of a great run under Darrell Dickey in the Sun Belt Conference where we went 7-5 and had a 7-game winning streak against conference opponents.

We will be fine, no need to dwell on the past.

When Mike Ekeler was playing linebacker at Kansas State University under Hall of Fame coach Bill Snyder in the early 90s, he set a record.

But you won’t find his name scribbled in the NCAA history books anywhere.

“When I played a hundred years ago, I set the NCAA record for having more fun than anyone,” Ekeler said jokingly. “When I got into coaching, I said I was going to enjoy it more than anybody.”

He seems to be living up to his promise.

Ekeler’s antics have caused just about everyone to take notice — including his boss. Head coach Seth Littrell knows the excitement Ekeler brings to the field and summed it up in two words.

“Energy and passion,” Littrell said. “He’s very sharp. He understands what he’s looking for and understands the scheme.”

Without Littrell, Ekeler would not have come to Denton. The hiring of Littrell is one of the main reasons Ekeler decided to call North Texas his new home.

With a resume that has coaching gigs at the University of Southern California, University of Oklahoma, Louisiana State University, Indiana University, Nebraska University, and most recently, the University of Georgia, there is little doubt Ekeler could have landed just about anywhere in the country he wanted to go.

But coaching is a job for a people person, and Littrell knew just the person to call to fill his defensive coordinator void.

His former colleague was sold — and ready to join the Mean Green.

“I’m 100 percent standing here today because of Seth Littrell,” Ekeler said. “I think he’s an unbelievable football coach and a great person. I believe in the guy.”

Despite a powerhouse pedigree featuring some of the most renowned football programs in the nation, one thing mattered above all else to Ekeler.

“I’ve worked at some of the greatest schools history-wise in the game,” Ekeler said. “But what it boils down to is people. You can be at the University of Georgia and be miserable if you’re working with shitty people. I really enjoy my work environment and the players here.”

In just six short weeks, Ekeler has turned what was the eighth-worst defense in the Football Bowl Subdivision last year into a stone wall in the red zone.

This team is happier than they have been in a long while.  They have coaches that believe in them and take up for them. I know they don't want to go back. They will be fighting for every win. Yes we are going bowling...any where but the Bahamas, Please!

You make the location sound so bad....

Please, please no to the bahamas bowl. They need to flush that bowl down the toilet. Or at least relocate it. If we get Minnesota (or any big10 school this time) at the HOD I will geek out. 3 more to go!!

Actually 4 more to go because FCS games don't count.
