  1. He was having a break out year when the Cowboys needed it. I hope he can make a recovery. That is a bad injury if he tore the ACL and MCL. You can bet he will have world class care so there is a chance he will be back. Good luck young man. You have given UNT football fans something to cheer for this year. The football gods are cruel. Especially this year!

  2. BLOW.  THIS.  SHIT.  UP.

UAB will start their program back up in what, 2 years?  They will be further along than us.  This is the worst run athletic department in the entire nation.

That will be an interesting prospect. UAB owned us last year when we played. UTSA was playing flag football 5 years ago. I believe they are up on us in the series now. However this years pillow fight with them may be the highlight of our season! Mac needs to bow out at the end of the season and try to save some dignity.

  3. Man, I'm speechless. Really. I don't know what the hell is going on. I've never seen it so bad. The coaches are obviously unwound.

it is uncanny. We may actually be the worst FBS team. i wish I could say I will not invest any more time or money but like most of us we are suckers for UNT. Here goes another season being Charlie Brown trying to kick the ball while peppermint patty pulls it away. Hopefully someday we will identify peppermint patty and kick her to the curb!!!!

  4. UNT needs to get serious about our revenue sports or cancel the damn programs altogether. The status quo is a damn joke. I'm tired of it. It's pathetic and an embarrassment to the university, the students, the student athletes, the alumni, and what few fans left. RV needs to go immediately and let the new AD do what he/she deems necessary. I'm so angry and tired of this loser culture at the athletic department. It's unacceptable.

In pro football when you lose all of your games at least you get the first draft pick. In college you are just a joke. The alumni are angry. And we have a right to be. In the 5 stages of grief the alumni are angry, perhaps moving toward bargaining or even depression. The administration and coaching staff are just in denial and stay there. I don't normally say anything about the players but I just don't see any fight in them. Or pride for that matter. These kids don't have to have visiting teams come into Fouts and be embarrassed by things outside of their control. They just lay down and embarrass themselves and us be extension. Perhaps I am moving through depression into acceptance!

  5. I could just see on the SMU blog.........."UNT Rednecks so hung over they show up at homecoming with their clothes inside out"

I believe I would rethink this idea, my friend.

If I cared about what people from SMU thought I would not have attended UNT.

I think it is a good idea. Henry David Thoreau would approve if he were still alive.

If not the shirts than perhaps the UNT flag flown upside down as a signal of distress? Sometimes clever/snarky carries the day.

  6. If I was the coach I would be working him in for a few series each game, kinda like they did with Dajon.   Let his workload increase slowly as he improves.  The fact that he's not playing at all makes me think he's really behind learning the playbook or they know he's not very good and aren't ready to play him.

how hard is it to learn interior run on first down, sweep or another trap run on second down, screen pass for in-completion on 3rd and 11. Add a few terrible timed out routs and a turnover and he should be right in the groove!

  7. Still the Eagles.

    Mascot = Eagles

    Nickname = Mean Green

My guess is that the AD controls the media guide and that's why you rarely to never hear references to the Eagles or "UNT" within game productions.

    http://125.unt.edu/tradition/traditions-spirit

No one recognizes the Eagles anymore...  I just don't like the nick name. Especially in Houston were every TAMU grad snickers when they say the Mean Green. But their traditions like the Corps and the fish camp are more similar to fascist indoctrination that a college experience to me.

  8. it's never cheap when my wife tags along. She never drinks beer, but it wouldn't be too tough to get a shirt with her in tow. (Doubles with at least one premium will do that)

Wives ruin everything! I could be mistaken, but domestic longnecks were $3 at ESSC. That is 10 w/o tip to get to the $30 price point. I know I rock at math I am a UNT grad. And you can't go to Denton w/o someone who you knew buying you a shot so sometimes you don't get to the 10 beers.

Nevertheless, Denton is a great place to enjoy whatever you drink. And I would bet that a top shelf spirit is still cheaper in Little D than in Big D.

  9. Haven't been there in a really long time but the Rally House in Plano on Park & Preston used to have a ton of good NT stuff.  I may swing by there this week and see if it's still the case.

I went there before the SMU game. Had a solid collection. Picked up a new t-shirt for the game. Lots of various shades of green to pick from...

  10. This is why you don't hire people who are set in they're ways and refuse to adjust,..and/or adjust their game plan for the personnel they have.

Still...it's not going to matter who plays QB as long as we have a 116th ranked defense.

    Rick

Our 116th ranked defense is a direct result of our offense and their inability to maintain possession and give the defense a break. I am not saying we are solid on that side of the ball, but in the first 2 games against our "peer like" opponents weren't blown out till late. However the 21 point 3rd quarter against Rice may be indicative of poor coaching adjustments. Maybe you are onto something Rick.

Predicable offense=tired defense=bad result. Mac is delusional. This is almost an emperor's new clothes event, except people are starting to see and he is still denying he is naked!

Due to work commitments and family obligations I will not get to another home game until UTEP in late November. I presume there will be less than 4000K fans at that game if we continue on this path.

  11. This^
Denton has turned into one of the coolest college towns in the state.  Outside of Austin I can’t think of a easier city to sell to a potential football recruit. We could argue that the academics hold us back some but unless we are competing with Rice every other school in our conference does not have better academics. (WKU and UAB maybe?)  So for McCarney to say it’s hard to recruit here is complete and total BS.  Its hard for HIM to recruit here.  Maybe you should change your message skipper or GTFO.

Association of American Universities is the gold standard. No one in our conference is AAU. If a kid is playing football to parlay an education that matters than he is looking at Stanford, Vanderbilt or to a smaller degree Rice. UNT isn't getting those athletes. I am not crapping on our academics, but we aren't in the league w/ those schools. But neither are Baylor or SMU and they are way more $$$$$ than UNT.

Denton is an amazing town which keeps getting better since I left in 1998. The facilities are at the higher end of most G5 schools. The DFW area is host to many potential recruits that would love for their family and friends to have a short drive to watch them play. The University is failing. I was behind Mac till I heard his concrete quote. There is someone who is a good fit for us. This guy isn't. He sees excuses not opportunities.

  12. Welcome to UNT and sorry my BS meter just went off.

23 High School kids would be in tears, broken, and in shambles attempting to play any Division 1 team. That might be one of the most outlandish statements I've ever read here. It's like the Bama fans who thought they could compete with a bad NFL team.

It's backed by simple stats too. The NCAA told us when we were freshman about 1 out of 5,500 high school players would ever play 1 snap on a D1 field and 1 out of 100 of us would play in the NFL. The moral was get an education but it also displays the laughability of your statement. But don't get me wrong, it would be fun to watch the hits.

UNTexas is correct. Period. We aren't in a good place, we may have been in a worse position before, however we have never been so bad that a High School team, especially one that has players who play both ways would be able to compete. It is a nice anecdote, it garners attention, but it isn't possible.

Gone Green 68, Welcome to the site and UNT family. Besides that, enjoy the club level. It is very nice. Nicer than the club level at the Houston Texans stadium. The seats are great and there is a full bar which isn't pushing naked lady prices. Sometimes we even have something to cheer about.

I don't know if anyone on this board or in the alumni association have to ability to make their voice heard. I would say tell anyone who will listen. Perhaps your voice will be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

    Go Mean Green!

  13. I was happier when we were the Eagles. Mostly because we aren't very mean and we can't pick a shade of green....

I personally love the Eagle Claw hand signal and the CAAAA!!! It is the first thing I do when I see a fellow alumni driving down the road or pass them by elsewhere.

It is much better than the U of H mini shocker!

  14. Dickey had success with players he actually recruited.  We're a long way from the Dickey Days.

You employ a system best suited for the athletes you have, or can realistically get in the future. You don't force a system which is ill suited for the personnel you have or are going to get. Why we can't figure this out is beyond me. The UNT way is to hammer the square peg into the round hole. At the end you get a crappy round peg and a damaged hole. No one is happy when that happens.

  15.  Not for the loss, or the way we played. But the realization after 30 years of watching the Mean Green that I'm starting to not care. That hurts me more than any loss.

The commentators stated that the remainder of the schedule was the toughest in Conference USA. So it continues to go down hill? We looked like a FCS opponent today. Hopefully we can beat the FCS opponent who is coming to Appogee for Homecoming. I am starting to be thankful that I will be on the East coast that weekend. I will not have to sit in the stands and be embarrassed further.
