  1. Drumroll...

Ladies and Gentlemen, children of all ages, I give you the lack of discipline and leadership that earned us the title of worst team in the country!!!

If this team didn't munity and Laid down vs Portland State then we may have the worst FBS team in history.

I have been chastised on this board for calling the players quitters. I just call it like I see it. Not sure how anyone can say they play with heart.

Mid they did munity then I am not sure I want anyone if them back. Sad state of affairs men. Sad state.

  2. Personally I don't want a coach to be here more than 2-3 years.  I want the new coach to win enough to where he gets a bigger job and salary at a p5 school and then hire another young talent to replace him.

I want us to be the destination.  Finally shake the directional state university stigma. If not we should have stayed in the southland conference and played SFA, SHSU, etc.

  3. Favorite place at UNT was the front of the Language Arts building, probably because of all the time spent around there before and after classes.  Plus, the proximity to Rick's,The Flying Tomato, Riprocks, etc. was second to none.  Get out of class, hit the giant porch areas and stairs in the front of the Language Arts building, recruit friends and strangers to go for a pitcher.

As far as favorite "get away" place in Denton, I'd often to read/study at McKenna Park instead of the library.

Language Arts building. I was a bartender on Fry Street. Rick's and later the Tavern. Back then there wasn't a single facility to talk to a man about a horse. Many a shift I made the sprint to the LA building and its clean porcelain goodness. I loved my time at UNT. Probably why I stretched a 4 year degree to 6 years....

This has been a good thread. It is the first time since the SMU game where I smiled while reading the posts. I am sorry I wont' be in town for Homecoming. Regardless of how the team plays, it is always a special time in Denton. Sure the older alumni have moved on from Fry Street to the Square but the vibe is the same. Just like Toby Kieth said, "I ain't as good as I once was, but I am good once as I ever was." That could be the motto for all of alumni stumbling around town fondly remembering our past glories. We may have fallen on hard times again with our team. But they are OUR team. Cheer them up for me and raise a toast in their honor. Perhaps they will surprise us. We know better than most how good it feels when we win. It doesn't happen often so we cherish it!

Go Mean Green! Beat Portland State!!!!

  4. I don't like any of the back line but Johnson. Beasley is terrible. I am shocked he is still a member of the U.S. National Team.

I have not been impressed with Beckerman, but he is light years beyond Zusi. I was excited by wins against Holland and Germany, but the Brazil loss was demoralizing, thank god I am a UNT football fan so lopsided losses don't affect me too badly.

Not playing Yedlin is a mistake. His pace gives opposing teams fits. I am not sure why he isn't in the starting 11. Jozy Altidore is the Jennifer Annison of U.S. Soccer. Everybody wants him to immerge as the potent striker we all want him to be. However in the end he just lets us down. I may have to leave Jennifer alone, she has finally tied the knot with someone. People would always wonder why she was single. I, having no firsthand knowledge would say "it is because she sucks." Why else is a hot woman single?

The tipping point in this game is that USA has Mexico's number. It may be psychological, but we own them.

I don't think Klinsman is in trouble. I don't like his insistence on foreign born "U.S. players", but he has made up competitive on the international scene. However if his team doesn't believe in him or his system than it may be time to go.

    Just my two cents.

Go U.S.A. and Go Mean Green

  5. I've brought this kid up in the past, but I think he needs to be brought up again. He plays RB at his high school, but projects to safety or slot at the next level.

Friday night vs the #2 team in 3A classification in Arkansas he had 38 attempts for 353 yards 3 TD to go along with 1 reception for 63 yards and a TD. He's getting looks from every D2 college in the state of Arkansas with his only offers being every state D2 college. He only plays 2A football, so this guy is the epitome of a hidden gem. He won the 100M at the state track meet in the spring and has a verified 4.38 40. Someone will swoop in and pick him up, why not North Texas.

Can he under throw out routs and hand the ball off on third and long? If so he is definitely our guy!

  6. I'm going to break stuff.

Quote of the day. Wish I had the standing to award that!

I honestly just don't get it. I really really don't get it. We have won ZERO games this season with Mcnulty at the helm. The offense has been terrible due to poor decision making by the qb, bad play calling or what some might call inconsistent play across the board. Mcnulty has had his chance to prove that he is the guy, Greer has had his chance to start, Smith is the only one that hasn't. Run Smith out for a start, if he's no good then sit him back down, run Mcnulty back out there and eat it the rest of the season. That is what any reasonable coach would do at this point, open the starting qb competition back up and see what shakes out. This is pathetic and shows that McCarney has given up and is phoning it in.

I was planning on coming "home" to Denton for homecoming, but this is really making me rethink that.

Every position should be an open competition. I know in football the QB gets the blame, but the is PLENTY to go around! McNulty has earned some pine time. Give Smith a chance to settle into a game. What is the worst that can happen? A lopsided loss?

  7. In no way are these kids quitters. They work hard for a trash system, with coaches who seem to be blind to the reality of the situation.

I haven't seen evidence of hard work. I don't know where anyone can see hard work w/ a team that is 0-4 who has been blown out in nearly every game. Bad fundamentals and low football IQ. Those aren't indicative of a hard working team. I blame the coach for letting this situation get out of hand, but the players are not totally innocent. This isn't a high school team. This is a FBS football team. They are young men, not kids.

If I offended anyone then get thicker skin, this is a UNT football forum. It isn't a happy place...

  8. It could be 70 point ugly.

We really need to win this week to have a little confidence going into that game.If we lose to Portland St., I shudder at the outcome of WKU.

At least I'll be out of town and not at Apogee.

I will be in our nation's capital for homecoming weekend. At least I will be surrounded by people of honor, integrity and character to help me thru this rough time in our schools football life.....

  9. Are we one of those schools where you can't at consistently win ? I mean, do more than have a winning season once in a blue moon.Akron,FIU,Kansas,HAWAII,UTEP,all the directional Michigan schools, both New Mexico schools,UNLV,Wyoming,Vanderbilt, and quite a few others come to mind. Are we one of those football programs that are bottom feeders, because it sure looks like it.I never thought than in 52 years of following Eagle football that we would be ranked dead ass last in the polls.[128th out of 128].Todd Dodge was over his head as a college head coach, but he recruited enough talent for us to win a bowl game. Since then its been a downward spiral. In golf its called L.O.F.T. [lack of frigging talent], which in my opinion resonates both on and off the field.I really feel sorry for the poor SOB who has to follow in Coach Mac's footsteps. But back to my original question: are we one of those?

If history is any indicator than yes we are.

The issue is that the alumni are tired of being a doormat. We will no longer write checks to a university who isn't scared to ask when the team is terrible. There are reasons some of the schools on that list are having trouble competing. UTEP, NMSU, UNM and Wyoming are at the end of civilization. They are scratching for unrecruited kids from Texas and California. Plus they fill their gaps w/ transfers and JUCO kids. Kansas is a basketball school. FIU, USF and FAU get the scraps from the area SEC schools and ACC blue bloods FSU and Miami. Vanderbilt is in the SEC but they have academic standards while the rest of the conference plays football. The directional Michigan schools are in the heart of big 10 country and fight over recruits. We on the otherhand are the largest university in the metro-plex. We finally have nice facilities and are in a cool, if quirky college town. The days of commuter school are over. Sure lots still commute, but many live in Denton. The most important fact is WE ARE IN TEXAS, THE HOT BED OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL!!!!!

We need a guy who doesn't look at our history but at our potential. I was at UNT in the early to mid 1990s. Boise State had just started to make some moves. If you can pull that off in Boise, Idaho, why is it so hard in Denton, Texas?

    Sorry for dissertation.

  10. Just as a thought for everyone to think about, and possibly have questions for next time. Hank came up to me at the coaches show tonight and said that if anyone had questions they could pick up the mike and ask, as long as the questions "showed some tact". So I would suggest, for those willing come up with some questions,  to show up and ask them because even though it's clearly not advertised, it is open mike. Or you could pull a Ben Gooding and just get up and punch the entire panel in the face mid sentence. Your call

It is always a good idea to take the high road. If not you are too easily marginalized as a nut.

I don't know young Mr. Gooding, however if he or some other student called out the team and the coaches as quitters I would applaud him.

The truth hurts, no matter how you package it!

  11. Is this the worst team we have seen here in all three phases?

Dodge's teams at least could put up points on conference foes on offense.

We have a terrible offense, terrible defense, and special teams haven't set the world on fire. Hell, even our award nominated kicker has trouble with anything over 40 yards.

I thought UNT vs Rice on 09/27/2008 under Dodge was the low point. We may have a perfect storm on our hands to be the worst season of all time!

  12. I don't have blind hatred I just don't have green colored glasses on, I don't like what he has done, I think he is a very weak OC, I don't think he could ever recruit, he can surely not prepare a QB. So you tell me what are his Strong Points? He can campaign for a coaching position well?

Either way we need to start with a Clean Slate.

We need new blood. Our culture of losing has to be totally eradicated. Scorched Earth Campaign. The product on field has been too bad for too long!

  13. So was he trying to say an undisclosed illness had an effect on this blowout?

Next Monday is he going to say a dog ate his playbook?

I would respect Mac more if he just said the obvious. We haven't been a good team, in all facets of the game.

He is the head coach. It is his responsibility to get the team ready to play. Period.

Perhaps he should read President Harry S Turman's desk sign; The buck stops here!

  14. I would take Major Applewhite if he would take us. We need young and hungry. Not someone at the twilight of their career. Briles, Sumlin, maybe Applewhite is the next great coach to cut his teeth at University of Houston.

However, Jim Leavitt would have experience at recruiting at a school who was an afterthought in the region and on a campus that is commuter oriented. The Bulls have never been the same after his departure. Not that there was much history, they started playing football in 1997!

  15. I was told by a player that the team doesn't care for Mac. They are tired of his repetitive pep talks, behavior, and excuses.

It's obvious there is a leadership void and it starts with him.

It would be shortsighted to say the Mac doesn't care about winning. However, much like many coaches who are close to retirement, the game has surpassed him. A similar situation happened to Mac Brown at UT. A coach will always want more time to build his team, his system, his strategy. That is why there is an athletic director (AD). The AD is responsible for making a realistic expectation for success. If the AD can't or won't make the tough call to hold people accountable then the President must step in. At this point it may be time for the alumni to withdraw financial support. I would not normally advocate this extreme measure but it may be the only way to push the issue.

There is a culture of losing associated w/ UNT Football. From what I see on the field I don't see that changing. Offense is awful and bland. Defense has poor fundamentals and is incompetent in pass coverage. Special teams looks like they are entirely staffed by walk-ons (not our kicker, he is great) who don't care to be there. Well coached teams block, tackle, catch, and play special teams. We fail at all of those areas.

I don't mind that we get beaten (much...), but I hate to see us look sloppy, lost in coverage schemes, and committing penalties.

I am not a negative guy but each week it is harder to see anything worth cheering about!
