  1. I have a great deal of respect for you.  I have seen you post this sentiment on more than one occasion.  I would, however, caution you to avoid the "No True Scotsman" fallacy.

Of the Christians in my life that I've most respected, a common quality among them was restraint from telling other people how to practice religion or categorizing people as truly religious or falsely religious.  They instead made these assertions by living by humble example, never proclaiming themselves to be correct, or pure, or right.

These Westboroesque people come around, best thing is to simply move along.  Neither support nor rebuke.  Just keep moving.  They're fishing for reaction.  I have never figured out why, but that is clearly their intent.

Ignoring may be the best policy, however the Texan in me wishes someone would just knock that A-Hold out. Preferably one of our LGBT brothers or sisters. If they followed it up with "Who you calling (insert hate speech) now Bitch!

I love this country but the day you couldn't smack a guy in the mouth for writing checks his rear end couldn't cash seemed to be a change for the worst.

    Go Mean Green, Beat UTEP!

  2. UNT treated our game like their Super Bowl and played over their heads, obviously. Kinda sucks since UNT would've probably gone down as the worst FBS team of all-time otherwise. Worth it if it saves Ricky V's job though.

    scoreboard.

We do have a long term series with Texas State coming up, actually. We don't want UNT as a rival. Who would? SMU sure doesn't.

All I'm saying is UNT clearly sees us as one, or at the very least has a really strong hatred for us. You can tell they really wanted that game and have reverted back to losing games by 30+ points since then.

As opposed to the banner year at UTSA?

    Scoreboard.

I know it hurts. Especially because that burn lasts for a year.

Maybe by then you can become a real school. Or get some facilities...

    And just for fun. Scoreboard.

  3. Not to diminish any of what you're saying, but Fritz would not necessarily bring the triple option here (or wherever else outside of GSU).

Why wouldn't he? The teams that run a form of the option do well. Georgia Tech is having a down year, but they are usually in the hunt for the ACC title w/ an option system. They play in a P5 conference! Navy is killing it this year and is a perennial post season team. Navy has this success with a smaller recruiting pool than UNT.

Bob Davie has New Mexico, a team that struggles similar to UNT for wins/respect, winning 6 games this year with an option offense. I realize some on here think it is a antiquated offense, however if we can get to the post season consistently with this system I think we all would be happy.

It isn't like what we have been doing has been working... Remember we just lost to MTSU like they were the University of Tennessee.

  4. LOL! I disagree.

If Ohio State, Notre Dame, Bama, and Clemson also "win out", which one do you expect the committee to drop for OU?

OU does not have a great OOC win on its' resume (Tennessee is currently 6-4). Of the one loss teams, OU's 7 point loss to a 4-6 Texas team is ugliest (Notre Dame lost to a 10-0 Clemson by 2 points, Bama lost to a 7-3 Ol' Miss by 6 points). The Big12 won't be in the playoff this season.

Clemson is the only one on your list that isn't a blue blood of college football, I hope they can hold on.

No one can tell the future, but the great Alabama lost to a decent Ole Miss team. They lost early and were forgiven. Texas is a mess, but they beat OU in a rivalry game. The "committee" takes those things into consideration or so it appears. I hope Oklahoma State wins out and throws the whole thing into disarray.

Regardless it is a popularity contest. If you say otherwise I will assume you work for ESPN...

  5. I think OU insured the Big12 will be left out of the playoffs again. Even though OU will probably run the table against TCU and OSU, the committee won't place them in the top 4 with that loss to Texas on their resume.

The committeee is more ridiculous than the BCS. OU is football royalty like Bama. They win out they are in. Period.

Memphis beat Ole Miss, then lost to Navy and then Houston. Houston can win out and get no shot. Wrong pedigree.
Ole Miss lost to Memphis, Florida and then Arkansas. Ole Miss beat Bama, but that won't matter. Bama is Bama.

We all love college football, if not we would not be on a fan blog. However, it is a joke in America that we settle the championship intangibles like "quality" of wins and style points....

I hope Houston is rewarded if they win out, however history does not support that reality.

  6. This is from this morning's edition of the Memphis Daily News:

UT coach Butch Jones says Canales is “a great friend of mine.”

“I’ve known Mike for a very, very long period of time,” Jones said during his Monday press conference. “I’ve admired him as a play caller, as a quarterback coach, as an offensive coordinator, and he’s done a great job in a difficult situation, and you can see their offense now starting to take on his personality.”

The article went on to imply that Jones would not embarrass Chico.

You could tell they are friends by their post game handshake. Jones still went for it on 2-3 Fourth Down and short plays with a 17 and a 24 point lead. Against an offense who had not posted a point.

  7. Did you watch the game?

I watched the entire game. No one laid down. We aren't as talented as the Vols. The announcers on the SEC network were far more complimentary to the Mean Green than the SEC team playing at home. I don't think we saw the best that Tennessee has to offer, but they didn't mail it in either.

Chico has the team caring again. This is the same team that "laid down" against a FCS opponent on homecoming. Laid down is a nice way of putting it. They were mutineers. Chico has done an admirable job keeping this team together. I know wins and losses ultimately matter, but this was a good effort. If there weren't a couple of key drops I think we would have gotten in the endzone or at least on the score board.

We can all dream of a big name here as the HC at UNT, but with the current AD I am not sure we will get one.

  8. Yes it was still a loss, but that was a respectable showing against a superior opponent.  He deserves credit for that.

I love his energy. The team looks like a different team. I am on the Chico bandwagon.

Chico for head coach. Hire a young hungry guy to be the offensive coordinator. Spread money around to pay assistant coaches.

  9. I don't fear many things. But I fear this game. Tennessee will take us out behind the wood shed. Lesser teams have given us program destroying losses.

We may need to go Slapshot style and run around the field in jock straps. It would be less embarrassing than actually trying to line up and play football. Everyone spends some time in the barrel, I didn't know we were going to receive our mail there....

  10. How is it that we can't swing at least some kind of local broadcast deal with TXA-21 or KDFI or a local independent station like that? I mean dang! It sure would be nice to actually be able to watch a road game without having to pay for extra broadcast channels or stream from a not-so-credible website? I mean, "listen to the radio?"

The misses tried to get me the Southern Miss game from a "streaming" site. We are still fighting w/ them to stop the auto payments they set up. We didn't even get the game!

  11. There will be Halloween events. The team has improved, they performed admirably against Marshall considering the situation. It is an excuse. If you're on this forum, you care...so go support the team you care about.

Kids want to trick or treat. If you have them then you go with them. Period. There is no reason why this couldn't have been an afternoon game and therefore leaving plenty of time to get home w/ the little ghosts and goblins. Just another example of UNT getting it wrong!
