It's just Rice. Lol you don't see me making threads about beating Texas State 64-3 and they're arguably a better team.

Be careful gloating. It is a long season. If memory serves UCONN served up the Cougars some humble pie. UCONN isn't a football powerhouse either.

Don't be a dick. That advice is free.

Arkansas State just lost to Central Arkansas and they have not won a game this year. Briles would be a good fit in Jonesboro.

Never happen. Petrino went back to Louisville. Louisville and Arkansas State aren't in the same universe. LSU could and should hire Briles. No one expects SEC players to obey the law or go to school...

Not so sure OK State or UT are gonna be in the market. Remains to be seen I guess. But USC looks like a very probably bidder for his services too. Notre Dame might also get into that bidding war. This is going to be ridiculously expensive for whomever wins his services.

Tom Herman has said he wants to stay in Houston. But they all say that...

I am so glad to see the no die attitude and willingness to grind out a game by this team and staff we saw tonight. Both the team and the staff  will just get better and better with this attitude.

We had more fans. We had more heart.  We wanted to win more.

I haven't felt that good since the Heart of Dallas Bowl. I am not making this more than it was, but in Houston after the game many people commented, albeit I was in my green north texas shirt, that it was a big win. I am not comparing us to Rice, but a school of 2000 students had a military appreciation game to include numerous kids taking the oath of enlistment and had a Blackhawk helicopter on display w/ the pilots to answer questions and let kids climb all over it. We can do more and should. However, great win. I haven't been this happy in awhile. Love these men who suit up for us. They have gravel in their guts and spit in their eye!

Buc-ee's has a Twitter account at @bucees. That's a good place to give them some grief for not carrying UNT gear. A lot of companies and organizations make addressing social media pressure a priority.

(Including President Smatresk. He gets a regular report emailed to him about what people are saying about UNT on social media.)

That is a solid idea. Now if I could just get my kids to teach me how to do social media....

I am old shcool. No twitter, no facebook, no snap chat or instagram. This board is my only foray into any type of social media. I don't judge those who do but it isn't my cup of tea.

Do we laugh at SMU for having to give tickets away to what should be a premier game or do we envy SMU for having the gumption to give tickets away to fill the stadium for what should be a premier game? I need to know which direction to direct my ire.

It is heads up ball for SMU to honor first responders. The city suffered a tremendous loss when those brave officers were killed protecting the citizen's they swore to defend. Additionally this game isn't against a FCS opponent. It is TCU, and it is at a nice stadium where the officers, fire fighters, and medics can hopefully have a nice time with their families.

I attended the memorial service for DART Officer Brent Thompson. It was a powerful send-off for a true hero. I don't know if a football game is enough to honor the men and women who lay their lives on the line for the communities they serve but it isn't a bad start. Especially since most who do that job don't want any recognition, they just want to serve.

I know those who are making fun of SMU needing to give out free tickets are in no way doing it at the expense of law enforcement, fire, or paramedics. I love to poke fun at the ponies, but I think this time they got it right. I would like our school to reach out and do something similar. Extend it to teachers, city workers. Concessions don't get purchased by empty seats, plus it fosters a sense of community.

    Just my 2 cents...

Cheap gas, and probably more importantly, clean bathrooms. My wife and daughter insist on clean bathrooms...

If you travel from Houston to the DFW area it is one of the few places where my wife and daughters will go to the bathroom. Buc's is awesome. However having no UNT gear should be rectified. Not liking Buc's is un-Texan!

  8. UNT 35

    Rice 31

Rice has beaten UNT everytime I have attended. If it happens again this time I will not attend the next UNT away game at Rice to see if I am the issue!

See you all there! It is roughtly 5000 degrees in Houston currently. Lets hope for a cold spell. That concrete behemoth has very little shade!

Can't blame it on Fouts turf toe either.

It is unfortunate when a player gets hurt. In both cases it wasn't the intent. Sadly the UF coach has no class and has chosen to perpetuate a lie.

If many of you recall that a few Vols fans came on the board to invite any of us who were making the trip to Knoxville to stop by for a beer and football conversation. Additionally the same fan discouraged any of us from making the trip to the Swamp. He stated that the Florida fans were animals to opposing teams. Guess that now extends to the Coach as well.

It is a sad day when a nationally recognized program can't behave.

Some people say Oklahoma is the worlds largest trailer park. I think those people have never been to Florida!!!

“These people know nothing about the kid,” Littrell said, according to Vito’s report. “That is what is frustrating. He takes it personally. He is an unbelievable person. If anyone knew him who was saying those things, they wouldn’t be saying them.

“He didn’t mean to do it. He was playing hard and trying to make a play. To be honest with you, if you look at it closely, he was pushed in the back and tripped. He was on his way down anyway. There is nothing he could have done. It is what it is.

“I understand their coaching staff and their frustration. That is their quarterback and their player. We don’t want to see anyone get hurt. Afterward, (McElwain) said (that) we have had a couple of  targeting calls. Those are not the facts. We haven’t had any targeting calls. He brought up that we took out the SMU quarterback. No, the SMU quarterback was running in the open field. He got hit, his cleat got stuck. It is what it is. It’s football. We are not trying to hurt anyone.

“I feel bad for both of those young men and want them to get healthy, but trust me, I am going to take care of my guys, too. No one is going to come over and yell at me or my sideline and say that we don’t have integrity or play the game the right way. That’s not the facts. I am not going to allow that to happen.”

Well well well, leave it to my old buddy TC to throw me under the bus after all these years. Tim, you conveniently left a few of the details off and kept the edges fuzzy to keep your good name intact.  If you remember, you lost your job the first game of the season against Missouri. Something about large linebackers spooking you to snap the ball over Tobys head.  OU was the 4th game of the season.  So to say I was rattled by my first big snapping experience is a bit off. You know as well as I do with repetition comes automation.  With your boy Simon and the full-back both screaming to snap the ball there was no time or reason to see if the punter was there. You assume he's there because he's always there.  Sorry you got caught up in the aftermath, imagine if you were actually on the field. Pal.

That all being said, what damn good times we had together.

Still snapped the ball to someone who wasn't there, reasons aside. That play is unfortunately one of the more lasting legacies of UNT football vs a P5 opponent. At least from a sound bite/video clip perspective. You build a 1000 bridges, but snap one ball to a guy who wasn't there, they don't call you a bridge builder.  Sorry man, you deserve to be under the bus. Of course it was a mistake and not indicative of your skills as a player, I don't think that was anyone's intent, especially #59. It was just a famous mistake. For me I am sad because I like to pin it on UNTexas.

Welcome to the board. It is great to have former player's perspectives. GMG

  12. Defense made us proud. Tons of fight. Hit wasn't dirty. Lots of HOMER calls, but that is to be expected with the SEC. They are untouchable. Just ask them...

I think we learned a lot about this team in this game. They have heart. Sure the offense has a bit to learn, but we didn't give those guys an inch. From there alone you can build a program.

  13. ASU escaped. UTSA had a solid game plan and a QB who is illusive. In the end I kinda wished they would pull it out just to put it into the face of a P5 opponent who gave them not respect and expected to win. However....

I don't worry about Rice and UTSA. We usually commit so many turnovers/penalties that coupled with our lack of execution we cannot beat anyone.

UNT football is UNT football's worst enemy. If we play within ourselves and limit the self inflicted wounds I didn't see anything out there in either game that would lead me to believe that we don't have a shot.

See you in the stands in Houston!!!!!!

Main argument here is that Nick Saban can slap down his championship rings to a 5 star recruit and that recruit will say "to hell with the locker rooms, I'm gonna get me one of these'

North Texas meanwhile is battling with Southern Miss for a 3 star guy and that recruit could say "well i like both schools, but Southern Miss knows whats up with that locker room" and boom, committed to USM.

With the stadium being newish how can the locker rooms be so unimpressive? I get the Alabama argument, however step one: be Alabama. We aren't. MGNation hit the nail on the head. We need to impress with what we can control. We can't control the shabby play, but we can have a nice locker room!

I did a little research: What 10 schools have we played the most in football?

    39 Texas St               29-7-3

    35 smu                      5-29-1

    33 New Mexico St     22-9-2

    30 Sam Houston St   18-11-1

    29 SFA                      22-4-3

    29 La Monroe           13-16

    27 Trinity                   16-9-2

    26 A&M Commerce   19-6-1

    24 Abilene Christian  15-8-1

    24 Tulsa                     7-17

I would like to see us play SWTS (I still can't seem to bring myself to call them Texas State). It could be a fun home and away series that could perhaps build into something more. Most rivals are in conference, but Pitt and WVA have a good thing going and they aren't in the same conference.

You can even give the tickets away and still come out ahead on two fronts:

    1)  Concession sales

    2) The stadium looks better with more people in it.

An empty seat will not buy anything to eat or drink!

I believe UTSA did something similar to this their first season to build a fanbase.

When one looks at photos of great college venues, what stands out ?  It's the primary color that team is known for.  In Alabama, it's red.  In Tennessee it's orange.  At A&M it's maroon.

Some say the color doesn't matter.  But remember how great that sea of green looked at the heart of Dallas Bowl ?  And how green dominated red or blue at the Southern Meth game one year ago.   When I look at replays of either of those games, it's the fans in green that impresses me.

We're unique in that our nickname is a color.  This is easy.  Wear green.  Don't make the fans watching on TV who you're rooting for.  Any shade of green is green.

    GO MEAN GREEN

That is solid advice. We have used almost every hue of green over the years. We got it covered!!!!
