  1. I am hoping this is just the tip of the iceberg and it just gets better for years to come. It needs to our schedules will likely just get tougher as C-USA get stronger again.

Our schedule will get tougher over time but as far as next year, replacing Tulane and Tulsa with UAB and Southern Miss will make things easier at least for next year. Southern miss won't be down long, but they've still got a ways to go.

UTSA loses Soza so I expect a bit of a drop off, UTEP still has a ways to go, La tech could be a tough team but we should get them at home, and then Rice loses a lot of seniors but will still probably be our biggest hurdle in the division, especially if we get them at home.

    Another favorable schedule IMO.

  2. JUCO needs? Well a DT or two. Maybe a WR. DE is always good. I wouldn't be upset with a TE.

Other than that? Nah. Although if a 4 star LB really want to come here, sure.

I've thought about a JUCO tight end since Prior and Miller are leaving, but we'll have 1 scholarship tight end as a senior (Tanner Smith) and 3 juniors (Marcus Smith, Cooper Jones, and Loving) and then a redshirt freshman in Wylie Reinhardt. Adding a JUCO tight end would give us 4 junior tight ends. But if we could get one who is an upgrade over what we have it might not be such a bad thing. Although Marcus Smith has shown a lot of potential.
  3. Completely unacceptable.

Don't try to sell a F'n road game against SMU as a quasi home game.

Do your damn job and schedule better.

I'm starting to grow more and more scared that they will do that.

After a bowl game this year and next year we should have plenty of money to bring in teams like Idaho for a money game of our own.

  4. OR

It could be because this AD promised 6 home games before. And then 2011 happened. 5 home games, one against an FCS team.

When you violate trust, it causes people to question whether you mean what you say. I was one of the people who said not to worry about 2011. I figured people would do what they said they would do and arrangements would be made.

    They weren't.

2015 is a done deal. 5 home games is all we will have (unless Iowa cancels with us. We will not spend money to buy out of this series).

You don't want to worry about the future? Cool. Unfortunately, you can't run a program that way.

We need to do whatever needs to be done to get out of the Iowa series. That is a team that we should have negotiated a 1 and 1 with, not a 2-0.

Just really bad long term scheduling.

2012 was the 5-game home schedule.
  5. In the era of spread offenses, defenses have to specialize in capitalizing on turnover opportunities and, most importantly, being able to bend and not break. We have gotten very good at that and Skladany has been just about all we could ask for. Great defensive mind.

  6. I believe the fourth school is Nicholls State of the Southland Conference. I think the price tag to get them here was far less than for Idaho since they are a FCS school.

Nichols state is just about the worst school for sports in all of division 1. If we bring them in it should be in the 40s to 0 at half.

With SMU being at Apogee I think we should have a good shot there, even with all the newbies. At least 2-2 heading into conference play would set us up nicely again.

  7. I normally love recruiting info... but right now, just riding the wave of the here and now is too much fun.

I hope this translates into new recruiting heights, but guys coming in hungry and buying into the mac way seems to be a good formula at the moment(atleast with predominantly dodge recruits thus far leading the way). We'll see, but I honestly am not worried about it at all at this point. Next step, UTEP.

Worrying about recruiting? Nah, nobody is. Just excited that this season and new conference has given us a little sneak peak at some recruiting success and we have plenty more to come with about 16 spots left on our board.
  8. Juco signing day is a little over a month away. I'd really like to see us nab a DT.

For sure. It looks like we may have gotten to the point in our program where we don't need large JUCO overhauls, but quality JUCO DT's are the highest demanded JUCOs and they sure wouldn't hurt. Other than that we should be good unless we could snag a game-changing JUCO like James Jones has been.
  9. Just an overview of how signing day can and probably will go. We have 17 scholarship seniors and about 77 total scholarship players on the roster. This means we have 25 scholarships available, which is the maximum that can be signed in a class, normally.

Backtracking - means that if you don't sign the full 25 in a class you can use the remaining spots for mid-term enrollees for the next class. In our case, we signed 23 last year so we can sign 27 this class as long as at least 2 of those signees are enrolled next semester for spring. Connor Means is an early enrollee for 2014 and Anthony Wallace, Oregon transfer, will be as well so that's at least 2. Lineman Avery Fortenberry has been rumored to be a grayshirt so he may be another mid-term enrollee.

Either way, we can and probably will sign 27 guys including Anthony Wallace. We had a good summer of getting commits, have been a little quiet since, and I feel like we're going to blow up after the high school season is over with the on-field success we've had. Expect about 15-16 more commits.

  10. Clarke was a JJ recruit

You don't have to sit out when going to a non DI school

I was thinking they were D1 for some reason.

Clarke was a JJ signee during early signing period but he's still one of the 5 high school kids who've come in or been signed by Benford. Even though he wasn't Benford's recruit, I don't like the inability to keep Overlander and Hardwick or be able to suit up Nunn, Friar, and Wesley in green, even if Friar and/or Nunn shouldn't have been takes in the first place.

Our roster is very top heavy with 7 juniors (assuming Taylor doesn't get three more years), 3 seniors, 1 sophomore and potentially 0 freshman because of this.

  11. It does sort of sound like a little more than just being ineligible to play this year and sit out and be ready for next year.

Benford has gotten praise for being a good recruiter while being here despite having very disappointing results on the court. If Wesley doesn't end up playing that'll mean all 5 of his high school signees are not on this team (Hardwick, Overlander, Friar, Nunn, Wesley).
