He has to.It gets clearer by the day that Vito reads GMG.
Brett, you were right! Sorry for doubting you. Did not know that walkons put on scholarship after playing two years or less as walkons counted towards a signing class.

Thanks for the backup, John. But seriously, in the words of the great Admiral Ackbar "it's a trap."Look homie, I'm just pointing it out. To knock Lemon because you think Y'Barbo is better is silly. Neither are NFL-ready, or they'd be declaring. Both have strengths and weaknesses. It just so happens that the coaches in C-USA think Lemon is better. They obviously don't believe he's THAT MUCH better, or Y'Barbo would not be 2nd team.
We cant have a C-USA all-conference team made up entirely of Mean Green players.
Be happy Cyril is 1st team All-conference. He deserves it. Be glad Y'Barbo is 2nd team All-conference, he deserves it... and the great part is: He has another year to work his way onto 1st team!
They're making silly statements saying Cyril didn't deserve first team. No need to argue why Lemon is better than Y'Barbo by pointing out why Y'Barbo, our own player doesn't deserve first team. That's what they did with Lemon, our own player, which is ridiculous. But you saw that too and gave them both their dues rather than bash one.
And them for Denton America to tell me if I asked the players who they thought was better, they'd say Y'Barbo, when I've definitely had that conversation with many of them and they said Lemon was the best on the team the last two years. Not by much, but I have heard the players' takes. Both are highly respected and acknowledged and it's sort of a 1A and 1B thing.
Still wasn't as ridiculous as the conspiracy that Lemon made first team because Mac recruited him and didn't recruit Y'Barbo.
But you have he right outlook like always John. Be glad both were so highly regarded, and realize that both will have great shots at being the two first-team all conference guards next year with Will Simmons of ECU graduating and likely headed to the NFL.

Brian Calhoun. Running back who started at Colorado and transferred to Wisconsin. Can somebody provide me with a list of legendary players who transferred in from other FBS programs?
http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/brian-calhoun-1.html
Jarvis Jones started at USC and transferred to Georgia, where he became a two-time All American and a first-round pick.

Oh yeah, and we have this Trice dude who transferred from OU and made first-team All CUSA.

Wells is a preferred walkonI agree. We already have Wells and Means, now we are trying to add another juco qb that would make 3 for 2014. Makes me think something is going on with our current qbs.
I bet one of means big selling points was that he could come in and go through Spring.
Is Brock that bad?
Seems like we may be looking at other qbs like some transfers too.

Yes. This sort of worries me. All conversations about how good he would be for us set aside, I wonder if we might be sort of blacklisted at Travis.I think Mayfield is from Lake Travis HS in Austin ?
If you guys recall, we once had a commitment from Mayfield's teammate/classmate Hunter Siddons, an offensive tackle from Lake Travis. He was injured (concussion iirc) and we pulled his scholarship. Maybe we aren't much at fault for that and it might've been something we had to do, but I can't imagine that sat well with Siddons, the Lake Travis coaches, and his friends/teammates (Mayfield?).
Don't know how close Mayfield and Siddons are or were, but it is something to note as they may in fact be close friends. That might have left a sour taste in Mayfield's mouth.

If we only sign 5 more than we can grayshirt, or even blueshirt another guy. Blueshirting would work because we have scholarships available after signing 22 guys.I imagine that both will be invited to the bowl game along with several more than the number of scholarships left. This is the part of recruiting that I hate...more good players that are interested than scholarships available.
Here's how this works. If we sign 25 guys, with 3 being current scholarship guys who were former walkons (Buyers, Kirby, Macek) we will add 22 scholarship guys, but we are losing 17 scholarship guys and only have 77 guys on scholarship right now. We have 25 open spots for next year, but we can only bring in 22 new scholarship guys.
We will have at least 3 open spots, so if a kid would be willing to blueshirt than he would have a scholarship spot assured to him.
Here are some explanations of blueshirting. I've put this here before, but what it means is that a kid can come into fall camp as a walkon and get awarded a scholarship before school starts. He would then count towards the next year's signing class. The catch is that he can't have gone on an official visit to the school or have had an in-home visit with a coach.

Coaches can't contact him yet. He also is probably still in Lubbock right now, finishing the semester.Baker Mayfield is from Austin. *ninja face*

He's a walkon. Likely wont here either, but you never know. He isn't costing us a scholly so no risk.Sophomore WR from OU who hasn't touched the field yet... 5'10, 189 Lbs

Very interesting. If it's true, would he be able to play right away, rather than sitting out a year, since he is not on scholarship?

I think Nick Orr is a guy we'd make room for. As for White, as long as we can keep our slots (Davis and Adams) and Willie Ivery, we don't need White IMO.I gotta wonder if we've stopped pushing to get Nick Orr and Desmond White. We have only a handful of scholarships left and they're not big bodies.

8, 2013"Committed"I'd like to keep Davis. He's a good corner and has good run support ability, but I hope we're still recruiting Howard Wilson from DeSoto. Some on here have said that he wants to commit to UNT but his mom wants him to stay committed and go to La Tech.- 1

I wonder if Copa is our number 1 target over Christian Beard. I also wonder if we would take both of them with only a few scholarships left and some pressing needs on the d-line.

Good day recruiting in Austin. Home visit went well, time to head home. #Hit9

Silly. If you're going argue Y'Barbo's case then do that. Saying they might not even consider Lemon the 3rd best linemen on the team is just not true. Cyril did not look nearly as good at right tackle, but he did his job and was playing out of position. They're both studs and they were both rewarded for it.If you dont want to believe that Y'barbo is our best lineman ask the players, they will tell you and they might not name Lemon as the 2nd or 3rd.
Don't worry, I'm close friends with a couple and have hung out with a lot of the lineman, offensive and defensive. They've said Lemon was the best lineman last year and this year. They all acknowledge that they're both good players and leaders on this team.
As for it being political, I'm not going to say that's completely untrue, but these are the coaches picks.

Our conference is actually pretty loaded with defensive back talent. Conference tackle leader Michael Mudoh was relegated to second team at safety. It was not easy competition for Lee and it won't be next year. He's a stud for us whether he makes 1st, 2nd team, honorable mention, or none of the above.I hear you guys, just think Kenny Buyers and Laramie Lee should have seen better consideration.
Things don't get much easier at cornerback. Bryce Callahan, who was second-team all CUSA this year at cornerback, was first-team freshman All-American two years ago. And he was a darn good football player this year.
Part of it is that Buyers and Lee didn't have an overwhelming number of interceptions like some of their competition. But we know how good those guys are and how important they were to this team/defense. Honorable mention is no accomishment to scoff at.

Seeing talk like this makes me think that Cyril Lemon is our most under-appreciated player. Y'Barbo is more of a fiery guy and a damn good player, but Lemon has been our best, most consistent, and most versatile lineman on our team and maybe in our whole conference. Watch him pass block; he never gets beat and hes a road grader. He did get screwed. He's far and away the best lineman on our team.
Y'Barbo's good, but the other guard picked was Will Simmons of ECU, who most predict to be a top 10, some say top 5 guard in this draft.
Y'Barbo being the third best guard in this conference behind Cyril Lemon, who has the best chance of any of our players to get drafted at some point, and Simmons who will likely get drafted this year is no knock on him. He's had a great season and luckily for us still has one more.

This. Please understand this people. There are 14 teams in this league. Even making HM is a pretty big deal.

Yup. Herbstreit was on 103.3 and he said he called Mack and Mack said he was in Miami recruiting.Recruiting ploy. They don't want their class to blow up. He is gone and he knows it. The board knows it. Only thing left to do is finalize the buy out. That is what will be done Thursday.
Only way the President of UT stays in his position of president is if he let Mack go. He is going to do it to save his own butt
-
Exactly. If they get someone like Malzahn then we will have no chance. I think they get him IMO. 5 million dollars, with that recruiting base and that weak conference, no disrespect to OU, OSU, and Baylor, it's as good a job as you could ask for.Ouch. Much rather would have faced Mac Brown, which Booger and Co gave a hell of a game to, than Nick Saban.
-
Both former walkons. Gotta love our walkon program. Two of our guys make all-freshmen team:

Good thing for o-line is that we're only losing LaChris Anyiam and everyone else is coming back. Including the young guys who are developing.Yes. We only have 3 of the 12 commits total on either line: 1 OL, 1 DE, and 1 DT. Not great. You build long term success from the inside out, not the outside in. If you can't run or stop the run, you...have many, many years of losing seasons.

Another thing that is almost certain is that we will not have the full 85 scholarship players next season, even if we didn't have any current players transfer or quit. Unless Mac puts some more walkons on scholly and no one transfers or quits.
